Errrrmmmm     .....       it has always been the Boleyn - named after the Boleyn castle that once stood nearby.

The pub at the rear of the old South Bank (the Bobby Moore stand) is even called 'The Anne Boleyn', or 'The Bowl Inn' if you're an Eastender.

Back n the 80s it was an 'easy tell' for the ICF charmers to identify away fans on their way to the game - who used to suffer the 'consequences' when asked to name the ground where the 'Amers played. 'Upton Park' was definitely not the answer to give in those days!

Doesn't that story just reiterate that the ground is commonly known as "Upton Park" unless you support the club?

I have been there a few times and know it's called The Boleyn but agree with Iron that the media have only recently joined the Boleyn bandwagon.

Upton Park clear winner

Getting ideas above their station now they are near the top of the league.  Will be serving prawn sandwiches next.

Isn't Upton Park just the area rather than the ground name? Agree that it's more commonly known. Pretty ridiculous that someone as knowledgeable about football as iron would claim to have never heard of the Boleyn ground before.

Got to back up Iron here, Boleyn Ground seems to have emerged recently to me, always been Upton Park that I've known it as. Not arguing over the name, but the name seems to have not been used in the past (like Celtic Park being called Parkhead in the media for years).

Also, is it Eastlands, the Etihad or the City of Manchester Stadium?

Until a few years ago Boleyn Ground would pop up in quizzes as a hilarious trick since the use was so obscure. Now its just a good example of modern marketing bollox. Trevor Brooking's a Duke or something and he called it Upton Park

Have they found the bloke who tried to headbutt manure's coach yet?

I bet he knows all about the bowling ground.

Also, is it Eastlands, the Etihad or the City of Manchester Stadium?

I call it Maine Rd (old habits die hard) or the Etihad. Hyy callls it Eastlands.

The new stadium was built in Eastlands and when complete was named City of Manchester Stadium and often abbreviated to COMS. All a bit of a mouthful and I think "Eastlands" was the most popular. Then those nice people from Etihad came along and sponsored it (for not enough money IMO) and it has been the Etihad since. Our red neighbours from the swamp like to call it the council house and a wider football audience like to call it the Emptyhad.

All these names and nicknames give an illusion of history. Obviously City don't have any.

What's the fate of Upton Park? (I'll always know it as UP)

Yeah only really just realised that I rarely refer to it as The Etihad haha. ''I'd like to see Pogba at Eastlands next season'' is what I'd type without really thinking about it.

Hush Carpark, how would a bumpkin from the 'Badlands of Tring' recognise 'a good example of modern marketing bollox'?
