Winning the Tour de France doesn't get you on a list of the top 16 British sporting achievements of the year?
Laughable and pathetic omission.

Some incredibly deserving Olympian/Paralympians on the list. But in the end there can be only one. When you win wimbledon, the olympics and finish the year world number one. All on the back of last year almost single handedly winning the Davis Cup. Murray has to be the winner.
Almost burst out laughing at the inclusion of Gareth Bale and Jamie Vardy. I suppose Leicester City will win the team award. For me the Ladies Olympic hockey team would be a great choice but I fully expect the football mad country to go with Leicester.

Murray is the greatest UK sports person by a country mile in my lifetime. Phil Taylor is a close second.
What he has achieved this year after year after year of head butting the big wins in the slams is nothing short of amazing mentally more than physically. It would have been so easy to throw it in and say 'i can't win in the toughest era of tennis ever'. He didn't he constantly got his head down and worked harder and harder and harder. I think his mother plays a huge part in his and his brother's success. She just doesn't accept 2nd best and you can see how it rubs off on both of her son's. I have watched him live several times this year and he really is a beast close up physically for a tennis player. I am sure he doesn't enjoy all the physical work he does like some athletes do to get to the very top. Some athletes love training and the pain. I think Andy does it because he just knows its part of the pain of getting to where he wants to get. Obviously Fed and rafa have regressed due to father time but Djok hasn't. Murray has got the better of him through hard work and mental strength this year. I still wish Muzza wouldn't throw his toys out of the pram so often on court after losing a point where he has done nothing wrong but the other guy was just too good. Why doesn't someone in his camp tell him he will lose circa 40% of points played over a season even if he is world number 1?
Apart from that he must be a total shoe in this year for history making 3rd SPOTY. All hail Sir Andy. Scotland's finest. VWP Sir Andy.

The Tour de France is toughest sporting challenge around in my book
The event had been going over 100 years without a Britsh winner, and now Froome has now three TdF's.
He is an exceptional athlete and deserves to be the conversation as the greatest ever British sportsman. He's above all time greats like Coppi and Fignon and level with LeMond and Thys.

I used to be huge cycling fan, bought a cycling PC game every year. Wouldn't miss watching all 3 tours especially the mountain stages.
But since Armstrong I just don't even follow the results any more. The drugs have even tarnished my enjoyment on the track. I can't see a cyclist wining again unless it's a really poor year.

This. Really is quite remarkable.
Itoje hasn't had a bad year either:

To protect what integrity the event still has, they should make it clear it is to reflect sporting achievement on the BBC. Might as well be open about it.
It is like they are pretending most people who are into sports have no access to Sky Sports, whether in their own house or down the pub. Looking at that list, I'm surprised Ed Balls didn't make the shortlist.

I'm not saying Froome should win, but can't possibly be out of the 16.

I really don't like to be a buyer of all these conspiracy theories, but there is no way on God's earth he cannot be in the short list.
I guess it's the BBC/Sky Sports thing.
Such a shame.
We can but be grateful that Poker Awards are done so much more fairly, eh Keith?
