I saw a TV Show about the (British) Supreme Court & was rather tickled by the practice of appending the names of what were, in some cases, piffling little places.

Lord Clarke of Stone-cum-Ebony.

Lord Wilson of Culworth

Lord Kerr of Tonaghmore

I doubt if any of us could readily identify the whereabouts of all 3 places without resort to google, but that's another matter.

So, a letter arrives from HM The Queen, or the top bloke in the Lords or whatever, & it informs you that you have been made a Lord (or Lady).

What place-name would you append to your new title, & why?

Presumably you have to pick somewhere where there isn't a Lord already?  Wouldn't there be hundreds of Eton Lords otherwise?  He'd have to be Lord Tal of Highbury I expect.

I mused with a few for myself...

Lord Kendall of Kendal

Nah, too silly, & everyone would spell one or the other incorrectly.

Lord Kendall of Southern California

SoCal is lovely, & great memories.

What about a famous railway town?

Lord Kendall of Crewe

Lord Kendall of Swindon

Think the winner in that category, which has a nice ring to it, would be;

Lord Kendall of Old Oak Common

In the end, think I'll settle for the place I lived in my infant years...

No, we have been given special exemption to pick any place we wish.

Do like Lord Tal of Highbury though.

Why would I want to be Lord of a rotten borough?

If only, I'm Lord Thicko of Thickville.

Still, it gives me an idea for a new trivia thread......
