The £140,000 is said to include "bonus" matches in European Competitions & Internationals, as well as what he earns in the English Premier League.

Would you do his job - & all the uninformed abuse from Team Armchair & Team Lolzz - for £140,000 per year?

Don't think I would. Football referees are like policemen, or traffic wardens - people dislike them & criticise them illogically.

Didn't know that Howard Webb resigned from the role last week, I guess they spoke before Clattenburg made the decision.

Thought it was quite surprising that Mr Clattenburg is leaving the EPL immediately - like, right away. I'd have assumed the EPL referees were all contracted on a season by season basis, but it seems they are freelance & can come & go when they please.

A much less glamorous, if better paid, assignment though. Echoes of Don Revie, all those years ago.
