Anyone got any preferred companies or booking agents?

Got shafted in Italy last by rentalcars.com who seemed to offer a very good price only for there to be a bunch of extra things I needed to pay for when I got to Italy.

Guess all I really care about is no midget cars (maybe a Ford Focus size car at least), and an excess of no more than £1k if the worst happens...

Cheers

At the end of the day I have found it safest going with one of the big rental companies, e.g. Avis, Hertz, etc.  The good deals advertised rarely meet expectations and imo not worth the risk for a modest saving.

I just booked one for Tenerife, and had done it with Hertz, but through rentalcars.com.

When I wanted to swap the main and 2nd drivers about, you'd think it was like asking for next weeks lotto numbers, even though it stipulated that amendments could be made up until 24 hours before.

I just cancelled the booking in the end, and rebooked direct with Hertz.

Have used Goldcar.es in Spain for years with no issues. They do have some offices at French Airports, might be worth a look?
