I apologise if I'm posting something that has been posted numerous time before

I'm from West Yorkshire and myself and a friend would like to look at investing in a Card Room

Nothing shoddy, just classy and well finished(quality tables, nicely weighted chips, table service etc etc)

looking at about 3 tables and a small bar (no food) but takeaway available, house to take a rake, chips in exchange for cash

I have spoken to my local council and they have said that I would need a "small casino" license as well as a "premises license" for alcohol

The other set back is that my town hasn't issued one of these yet...... there's always a first!

My question is does anyone have any experience or knowledge of how I may get around this or how I can get games going without a licence?

Appreciate all the help in advance, again apologise for posting a subject that may have been asked before

where are you geographically?

if you want to give up the best part of a day you could read this fantastic story. Rob Yong's battle to open DTD and the issues he had

I doubt, given our association with DTD and the stories many of us will be aware of around illegal clubs that you'll get too many people advising you on here to do it without a licence!

I'm in Wakefield, West Yorkshire so right next door to Leeds which has numerous casinos including Victoria Gate being the newest.

Personally I wouldn't want to do it without a licence but I wasn't sure if there was any way of opening a bar and be able to run games out of it from a back room or something but again I would rather do it all above board and make a name for the place.

I will give the recommended a read and see how that goes

Appreciate the response

Here's a link setting out the position

http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/PDF/quick-guides/Poker-in-clubs-quick-guide.pdf

Please be aware that while the Gambling Commission is perfectly happy to let its internet licencees go bust and not repay poker players' deposits, they will crush you with the full force of the law if you break their rules about running a club.

That's great thanks for the help, I'm all about doing it above board not wanting to cut corners as I want to make it a respectable establishment that the name may be mentioned in the Poker community

I think I may help you - all you really need is a time traveling machine and year 2005...
