Likely the same reason they didn't used to run marathons, over 3,000 metres etc.

Sexist men have refused to accept that they can.  It has happened in the past for some events.

Guess once people get used to it, there is a lot of inertia.  So everybody is appalled if someone suggests quarters in football etc.

It's mostly scheduling - if they did Wimbledon couldn't fit all the matches into the two weeks.

I think they should - one of the reasons why men's tennis is held in higher regard is because of the five sets. Think of any classic men's match at Wimbledon - I bet nearly all went to five sets. Many women's matches finish just as they're starting to really get going.

There's only one place for women and we all know that's in the kithen.

Because they get the same prize money for playing 3.

Also only playing 3 allows them to fit in the doubles and make even more.

i really think they should for the last 16, half the mens matches before the last 16 would be better if they were 3 set matches

For the majority of our lifetimes, there's only been a handful of women that could provide sufficient opposition to take the top 4 women's players (at any given time) beyond 2 sets. So there really wasn't much point. It always perplexed me how the women's game had so many players who didn't seem to be "match fit", and were able to compete to a point, despite clearly carrying excess baggage. 3 set max definitely helped.

But now, at last, we have strength in depth. 5 set matches would present some proper contests and prove the worth of the women's game. It would also make the equal pay debate redundant. Sadly, I wouldn't have fancied Magda over 7 sets today, but I think Johanna would have benefited from a five setter.

It would certainly present the Grand Slam schedulers with a headache, though.
