I came across this today. What do you think?

I had a brief fling with a man I met at a corporate event. It was perfectly amicable parting in which we swapped numbers and agreed to meet again.

After he'd gone I saw he'd left his watch on my bedside table - a Rolex. I sent him a text after a few days of radio silence and heard nothing back.

I tried again a few weeks later and once more after that. It's now been six months since we spoke.

I have been advised by friends that the watch is not a fake, and that it could be worth well over £5,000, based on identical models being sold online.

I could text him again, threatening to sell it; and I could no doubt track him down through social media and find his office and take it to him in person. But on the other hand, why should I?  He seemed wealthy enough and after all he's made no effort to reply to me or collect it.

I'm tempted to sell it and spend the money on myself - but that feels morally wrong. Is it?

Any time you have to convince yourself that what you're doing is morally right, then it probably isn't.

Tom, you should just hold onto this fella's watch - every time you look at it it will act as a reminder of a happy time.

I think I might notice I’m not wearing my Rolex.
Obviously for whatever reason doesn’t want it back.
I’d keep it and give it as a present when you find Mr.Right .....Tom.

I think Tom just doesn't want to give Simon Trumper his watch back.

Is it possible that he wrongly assumed you were a high class gigolo Tom?
Maybe he left the watch as payment for services rendered and is now ashamed to return your texts?

The worst part is, the BBC knew all about it.

I reckon 70% chance it's fake, 20% stolen, 10% he's claimed on his insurance.

The easiest way to check it is to take it into Rolex St James and ask them to remove a link. If it's fake they'll tell you and if it's stolen they confiscate it and hand it over to the police. If they hand it back with a link removed I'd be straight into Watchfinder and walking out with a cheque

Married man who wanted a quick fuck and has weighed up the value of the watch against potential divorce proceedings and has simply wrote off the watch in the bigger scheme of things being the safest option financially long term.

Claimed he was mugged, got sympathy sex off the wife plus some insurance cash.
