Katie Swan pulled out injured in the first round in this comp i am guessing she could be hanging up her racquet soon

Katie Swan pulled out injured in the first round in this comp i am guessing she could be hanging up her racquet soon

not seen hide nor hair of her since this exchange mixed in amongst others

it was just before this retirement i saw that she had nearly quit before which is why i thought she was over

would love too see her back but if she doesn't quiti think she will end up like Kyle battling away in the lower echelons of the game getting injured just like i think they have there game back in order

After my post I found her getting interviewed on a LTA video about 2 months again.

She had a back injury which was giving her a lot of pain and stopping her playing to her ability.  She had a procedure on her back and was working her way back (it was her first day back in a court the day before the interview).

So at that stage she was planning on coming back, but think it was too early to say if she could come back to get previous ability.  Given she played in August, I assume she won't get a protected ranking anywhere near her peak.  So a long way back for her.

Jodie is back in action playing the 100 in Shrewsbury with as expected a lot of Brits including Watson and Kartal and the juniors.

Did you know this is live on YouTube.  Not the crappy ITF live feed.

Fwiw Burrage's match was delayed for several hours due to rain.  The match was indoors... seriously*

Lol. She is heading back to the top 100 after both of us writing her off.
Dream draw facing Sarah Beth Grey in round 2.  Bad for Klugman and Xu, having to face Kartal in round 1 and 2.

Could be a Kartal Watson final?

Need Ironside's tips for the year.

Raducanu and Boulter both finish top 20, but not top 10.
Raducanu wins a WTA tournament at last.
Sonay Kartal gets to top 50.
Burrage back in top 100.
Draper breaks top 10
Jacob Fearnley gets to top 50
Billy Harris gets close, doesn't get there
Think Jack Pinnington Jones and Paul Jubb can get top 100.
So we finish the year with 5 men and 5 women in top 100 (proper gamble)?  Don't know which over woman, hopefully Dart gets there/stays there.  Armani Banks 150 or so?
Xu finishes top of Xu, Klugman and Stojsavljevic.  Depends if any gets main draw at Wimbledon though?

Just seen Draper has pulled out of United cup and Davis cup

I like your predictions. Draper will need to stay healthier if he is going to make top 10 though.
not much i can add to them
I think Norrie will hang around the 30-60 in ranking all season and wont get seeded in a slam
I can't see Watson getting close to the top 100 again
I think Amelia Rajecki  is worth keeping an eye on

Pretty much agree on that.  Can see Norrie hanging round the top 100 for a couple of years yet, don't know if Evans can come back.

There has been much talk of Rajecki, but she didn't do much last year (she had a couple of bad draws).  She must have potential, but don't know how far she goes.  Might be able to get a wildcard for Nottingham, though there will be some competition.  She needs a couple of solid results to displace Watson from the Wimbledon wildcard slots.  Also needs to do something decent to show she deserves it more than all the younger ones coming through.

i was trawling through the results and draws of the smaller events today to see if any brits were doing anything

saw Liam Broady had gotten beaten in Qualys for Nottingham 75 and was ranked 769 with 31 ranking points

Doesn't seem that long ago he had broken into the top 100

Don't think it was that long ago.  Was surprised to see him in qualys.  Think they gave wildcards for others, so not sure why he didn't get one.

Saw one of the main tennis accounts bemoaning Kartal not doing well because people are dossing round at the LTA facilities in London rather than playing tournaments in the back of beyond.  Given her progress last year, assume that she doesn't mind playing tournaments in the back of beyond, and was just injured.  Luckily she doesn't have a lot of points to defend

Good to see all the round 1 winners today.  Almost stayed up and watched Burrage's win, but woke up at 2.30 to the sound of tennis balls in the next match.  She looked pretty good for the first 85% of the match.  And good to see Dart making the most of the lucky loser opportunity even if she is unlikely to get past round 2.

Norrie looked outclassed first 2 sets last night, was about to head to bed when he managed to turn it around. Final set reminded me of the top 20 player that was forcing the best out of the top player.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/1islow6/odd_situation_at_raducanu_match_hiding_behind/

There was an incident during Raducanu's match where a "stalker" was removed by security on her way to a 0-4 defect.  She came back and played well, but that was appalling. It is unclear if it was the same stalker who has a 5 year restraining order.

Would like to see the video of him been removed if anyone sees it, as I have seen a blast from the past mentioned a couple of times.

Just a quick heads up

The LTA tickets have mostly opened to general sale today.  Think Queens opened earlier, so tickets wil be much harder to get (or lots of singles, finals hard to come by).

Open today are Nottingham, Birmingham, Ilkley and Eastbourne.

I was in the virtual queue at 10 am, took about an hour.

Got centre court, 4 rows from the front, near the middle, for the finals at Nottingham.  4 tickets (3 adults, one child) were 180 all in including parking.  You could get closer to the front with worse position for much the same price.  Even the back rows aren't far from the players, so you can pay less.

The women's event at Queens went from good availability for finals on day 1 to really bad availability in a week, so don't spend too long procrastinating.

Norrie will be behind Fearnley in the rankings if he doesn't get a better result than him this week
