What were the favorite 3 cars you had as normal road cars?
Mine were
Hillman Hunter GLS ( The one with the Holbay engine with twin 45 webers  Smiley ) not much top speed but so rapid, proper drivers car
Lancia Delta HFi Turbo.......very fast stuck to road like sh1t to a blanket
Ford Cortina Mk 5 ....2.3 Ghia......fast and quite luxurious in its day

Mini 1000 in maroon and rust with a retro fitted 1300 engine.

Mk 4 Cortina in Jupiter red, also with a 1300 engine but this time fitted as standard. Did oodles to the gallon but wouldn't pull a greasy man out of bed.

2004 diesel Polo (5 door). Felt like driving a big saloon, bought it second hand, had it 5 years plus, never put a spanner on it except for normal maintenance.

Bugger! I forgot about a white Mk1 2.3 diesel Sierra that I bought with 100,000 miles on it. At the time, it was the best car I had ever driven but it took me weeks to remember to use 5th gear.

Audi A8 4.2 V8, with about 500 miles on the clock when I got it.

Cars with TVs were quite the novelty in 2006, and very handy when I was stuck in traffic driving to the Vic/Sportsman  Cheesy

Toyota MR2 Turbo, with about 400bhp, which was a nightmare, and at high boost span in the first 3 gears.

150 in that, felt a lot, lot quicker, than 150 in the Audi!

Vauxhall Nova 1.3 SR with K&N and Twin Weber Carbs.

First motor, and had great fun bombing about in that for a year or so.

Mk IV Spitfire. You always have a soft spot for your first car,  can still remember it was TLO792M.

2000 BMW 5 series. Did 100k miles in 3.5 years, brilliant motorway mile cruncher.

BMW 335d. 0-60 in 4. in a family wagon is great fun, stupid amount of torque.

Can't follow instructions but good memory test, think i've missed a couple that, incredibly, must be even less memorable than a few of these.

I’m probably a bit weird as a bloke in that I really don’t give a shit about cars. I’ve been able to choose company cars for the last 25 years and for the last 20 of those years I’ve basically chosen one of the cheaper ones on the list I’m given in order to pay as little tax as possible. As a result I’ve always had relatively basic cars compared to what I could have had if I really wanted.

BMW 5 Sports for road handling and totally bullet proof

Range Rover TDV8 for comfort

Jaguar S Type V8 Turbo charged for speed and comfort - but a total nightmare for electronic faults

Ford Capri 3L for your youth and constant sliding in the wet

Volkswagen Transporter - for knowing that you could never get a speeding ticket 0 - 60 in about 20 minutes

Sounds epic. Did you get it modified or was it done already?

MG Midget ragtop.
Mercedes 190SL.
Ford Capri 3L.

My mum's mini 1275GT was a cracking little motor too.

If we are measuring "favourite" by the most pleasure & excitement they gave us, I'd have to select the first three cars I ever owned.

This was my first, reg number VDT 645. I loved it so much that, before passing my test, I'd go & just sit in it for hours on end, dreaming of when I'd pass my test & start a new life of independence.

Next came this beauty, a powder blue Morris Minor, reg plate 6667 MM.

My word is was posh - it had quarter lights with beautiful chromed fittings.

Big drawback were the semaphore indicators, or "trafficators" to give them their correct term. They'd stick in the "out" position, & when exiting the car I'd snap them regular as clockwork.

Finally, at attempt number 3, along came what I thought was the most luxurious car it was possible to imagine, a Hillman Minx, reg XHV 57.

Not sure how I can recall the reg numbers of every car I have owned, but not the passwords I use to log on to websites daily.

The Minx had a sun visor - a proper sun-visor, as pictured. Nobody, in the history of ever, can dispute that those sun-visors were the coolest things in the whole wide world.

Golf GTI Mk1 - My love affair with the Golf GTI started here. I replaced the exhaust and manifold, replaced the cam with a 'fast road' version. Unfortunately i never upgraded the brakes Smiley
BMW 335d X-Drive - Stonking all-round car only sold it last week
Audi RS5 - 450 PS, 2.9 ltr V6 twin turbo only picked up last week but it is already a favourite

I think I've only ever had 5 cars so it's not hard to narrow down.

Fiat 127  was my first.  Went all over the country watching gigs in that.  Me and a couple of mates would even sleep in it now and again.  We're not the smallest chaps either.
Mitsubishi Lancer was next.  I liked that as it had electric everything, lovely.
Vauxhall Cavalier CDi next - pretty fast for me and it had a sunroof.  I miss sunroofs.

Had a couple of Peugeot company cars after that and then bought a Vectra when I left my job.  That conked out a couple of years ago so I leased an Audi A4 which is bloody lovely.  It goes back in May and I have another on order which I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy even more.

When I don't need the space any more I might get something a bit more sporty Smiley
