Does poker still deserve its shady image?

Welcome to the world of GDPR.

PS - which one were you, & at what point did you threaten to flounce unless they chopped it up?

I pushed for a chop but Anon refused after Anon had earlier said no to a bubble. Anon couldn't believe it.

Are there any non-shady reasons to want to go as 'Anon'?

I was speaking to one of the guys about this and you are automatically Anon unless you sign a form. Suppose it possible that some people are just not bothered about signing it rather than insisting on being anon.

The wife.

The congregation. A lot of religions don’t allow gambling.

Colleagues. A lot of workplaces disapprove of gambling.

Banks. Many financial institutions penalize people if there are gambling transactions.

This on the heels of the APAT Team event (in Blackpool) having to be self-dealt since G were unable to provide dealers until the final 5 (?) tables. Reports of lay-offs and resignations among casino staff, but to leave it till the eleventh hour before they confirm with APAT?

Back at Luton G, though, they clearly had an extremely successful night when they ran the £1250 'giveaway' promo on a Wednesday night - so they must think that (even though the giveaway is now £750) the place will be just as packed every time they run it. Typically short-sighted and reactionary from senior management that still don't seem to understand how poker tournament players add to the general health of the casino's business. If I'm not mistaken, I think it's unlikely that the cash table grinders will be spending as much time on the pit games and slots as the casual, couple-times-a-week comp players after they've busted...

Meanwhile, Genting must be pinching themselves in disbelief. I really hope they make the best of the opportunity.

I was playing in a fun 456PLO/PLO8 game in Blackpool on the Saturday night, every pot was full rake. They closed the table with 3 hands warning at about 02:30 as they only had two dealers left. The dealer did say that 80% of the staff have resigned recently. Such a joke from G.

I self-dealt for my table for 11 hours on Saturday, definitely have a new found respect for dealers, I was beyond shattered at the end, my hands were, and still are, red raw. Any player who posts blinds/antes using anything more than the minimum number of chips possible needs to be shot. Repeatedly.

Dear Shaun
I have received your complaint about the Saturday poker competition. Unfortunately Grosvenor Casinos is going through a transformation and this has effected our ability to offer the same level of poker competitions we have done in the past.
With a limited number of team to operate the poker room we had to make some difficult decisions. The reasoning for removing the Saturday night poker was a combination of things but we took into account the operational difficulties created on Saturdays because of the numbers of customers who visit on Saturdays.
The poker players mostly drive and it is one person per car, this places pressure on parking and we often run out of spaces. The demand on the kitchen peaks on Saturdays and this causes complaints trying to serve the poker room orders, bar orders and a very busy restaurant.
The transformation involves a reduction in the number of employees throughout the casinos and in order to be able to meet customer demand we had to make some tough decisions.
I know this is not the answer you would have liked but I hope it gives you abetter understanding of why we have acted in the way we have.

This seems like a really sensible decision. The number of times I see regs wasting everyone's time for a free cup of tea and not even tipping when it comes ...makes my blood boil. Poker players love to talk about the contribution they make to the casino but it's obviously not true in relative terms. You only have to look at the rake in Vegas to know that the relatively low rakes here must make card rooms borderline/ unprofitable.

Maybe they should have started by charging for drinks that are currently free before going straight for this decision.

Crazy that they make the carpark bigger to have a bigger card room then stop the games because too many people drive to the bigger poker room.

Doesn't really affect me as im not able to play as much as I used to/would like but can understand the outrage. If it happens at Luton then what chance have other card rooms got. Genting should be seizing the moment.

Seems the cash players should be happy with the promotions being put on for them. I played one night when it was free rake and food and it was pretty decent.
