Boys

Oliver - 6,259
Harry - 5,031
George - 4,929
Noah - 4,273
Jack - 4,190
Jacob - 3,968
Leo - 3,781
Oscar - 3,739
Charlie - 3,724
Muhammad - 3,691

Girls

Olivia - 5,204
Amelia - 4,358
Isla - 3,373
Ava - 3,289
Emily - 3,121
Isabella - 2,627
Mia - 2,590
Poppy - 2,527
Ella - 2,452
Lily - 2,405

Seems like everyone wants to give their child a "cute" baby name these days. Gone are the days of Nigel, Gary etc. There are going to be a lot of adults wandering about in 20 years trying to be taken seriously.

The Nigels weren't taken very seriously in the aftermath of XTCs "Making plans for Nigel" hit record, and I dare say Gary was a fairly tainted name.   Picking kids names is way harder than you'd think it should be.  We had two girls, and it was difficult to get agreement on those.  I don't think we ever agred on a boys name.

You pick a name that is sufficiently far down to be not popular, doean't sound too pretentious or weird etc.   10 years later you bump into a pair of feral kids down the park with a chain smoking mum swigging from a bottle of strong cider.  Inevitably she then starts shouting out your kids names.

I really thought we'd be immune from that when we called them Lemon Popsicle and Allegra Tabatha.

My wife works at a hospital in a kids department and relays some corkers on a weekly basis. I think the most puke inducing was a girl whose second name was Perfect so they called her Princess. Probably the worst I’ve heard of is ‘Ledasher’. Not spelled like that though, spelled as ‘Le-er’.
