Cash game etiquette question

Hi guys, just want some views/opinions on something that occurred in a cash game at a Grovsenor casino the other night. I wasn’t in the hand but was asked my opinion which I did not give because I genuinely didn’t know the answer.

It was a fairly loose 1/2 game. Couple of guys drinking at the table  I can’t remember the preflop action but the flop was something like 732 with 2 diamonds. The 2 guys get it in on the flop. Hands aren’t turned over and the turn and river are . One player says I have a 2 and shows,  the other players says that’s good and pushes his card over the line face down.

The dealer begins to push the chips towards the player with the 2 when the other player says sorry I actually have a 9 and showed A9 of diamonds which missed the flush but obv hit the 9 river. His cards hadn’t hit the muck but had been passed face down over the line.

My questions are who should be awarded the pot?

Pot goes to Mr A9 surely.  If the hand is clearly identifiable (i.e. hasn't hit the muck) it is still live.  I think to be exact on procedure, the dealer should have taken the folded hand and mucked it before attempting to award the pot to the pair of .  Sounds like a great game to be in!

Yeah, what Simon said. If cards are identifiable they are live. Dealer should kill hand before awarding pot to avoid situations like this, because once dealer kills hand thats it.

Yes, that’s what happened and yes, it was a great game to be in. I think what didn’t help the atmosphere is another player said the A9 guy probably did it to be a dick as he had slow rolled him previously. He acted terribly to the point that 2 players left the game and in no uncertain terms told the A9 he was out of order.

He then also left within 2 hands. Thank you for your answers.

The guy called an all in with ace high and 2 players leave because he was out of order.   This game just gets better.
