The competition was strokeplay, so you have to record exact scores BUT very high scores on a hole don't get entirely included in the calc for your handicap index. Despite the high score yesterday, my hcap went down from 26.3 to 25.9.

Playing this course tomorrow. It's quite short, but my aerial survey shows ponds and bunkers in front of the greens, clearly saying "If you think you're going to thin one and scuttle it on to the green on this course, think again!"

Designed by Old Tom Morris no less!

Described in my book as a challenging parkland course with some interesting holes and tight fairways.

Looking forward to your report.

Off to our annual Ashbury golf resort trip tomorrow. Been going for years but only 4 off us this year. Great value for money with great well kept courses.

Total golf charges 0.00

Can't argue with you Kev, that is a bargain.

I played Irvine a few years ago. It's a really nice links course regularly used for Open Qualifiers.

When I played it I used to carry my clubs, and my mate Alan and I played 36 holes so it was deffo a while ago!

Ha ha golf included in the price of the stay,. Otherwise you would live here Tom, you love a bargain.🤣🤣

Just 4 of us on this trip. Mick (left) pips Chris (second right) on the 18th to take the win on the 1st day. Nearest the pin for me (tubby one second left).

So Callander was super tricky and very well designed with mounds and bunkers around the greens punishing an errant shot. The high number of par (a few quite long) put a premium on the short game to get points and I was too sloppy in that department.

The signature hole is a short par 3, with Ben Ledi in the background, that requires an absolutely dead straight tee shot to get through the trees.
