(but i didn't!)

Played in the 10 pound (my keyboard wont do pound signs!!) pot limit rebuy in Leeds last night, and thought I'd share/ask for soem feedback!

We had a bit of a crazy opening table with two newbies in every pot calling every runner runner possible...which is fine apart from them hitting them... alot!

Anyway.. had a couple (5 i think) of rebuys and found myself with about 12k, where i stayed until two tables out.. small pot poker.. picking up three blinds every two or three rounds. Then with 14left i have 77 on the bb... button raises the pot and i just flat call (stupid?) anyhow it comes down ace high and three diamonds (i have 7 of diamonds) He checks i push all in, he calls with the ace... I hit the 7 on the river but think i wasnt't too far off 50:50 with the flush and a backdorr str8 possibility!!

That took me to 30k ish. Now my main problem in poker is not being able to recall hands... so i can't account for how i fell down to 11k... i rember holing A9 on a  9 2 something board.. betting it 3k all the way.. not realising the 2 on the turn made him trips.

So we were on bubble time for an age... my table had 5 left so we were paying more per set number of hands to play. I decided i would try to limp into the final and only play premuim hands.. each time i had made position raises in the last hour i had ran into a good pair of ak etc... I eventually limped into the final with 9k when the blinds had just turned to 1 and 2k.

there were three of us really low chipped, most of the chips lying with 3/4 players. I played quite ish and waited... I let myself get down to 6 k on the bb, looked at the first card as it came, the ace of spades... that was enough for me... UTG raised the pot, i called for all my chips and found myself with AJ against her A5... it held up.

Anywhooo to speed the story up I just played relatively conservative poker... My coach told me not to lose chips calling raises... so i only really limped from sb if there was pre protection or raised if i felt i could get it throu (I dont like callers!)

A few started to fall and I became more vocal.. not agressive but just plain cheewy and probably fairly entertaining... 'i've got aces on order' 'I'm hungry' 'what, the bars closed!' etc.

Again i can't really remember too many hands but i got down to five, then four... at this point i was real low and called a bet with 67 suited. he didnt have much and i was only a 2-1 dog - ideal.. of course the 7 came! The next short stack went and we were 3! I offered a deal.. more in jest.. the leap from 4th to 3rd was over 100quid and the next leap was a bit more again so I was happy with 3rd...and being the shortstack by some way i wasnt expecting a yes. I didnt get it i got a flat no, i'm going for the win from one bloke! He then proceeded to not play, folding sb and button and not calling the other guy raise - i pointed out to him that he was not playing for the win with that tactic! I proceeded to take hime out, remember having the better cards nd hitting the flop which was a comfort... so i was heads up.

the total prize for 1st and 2nd was 1160... split 750/410 ish.. now can anyone suggest a good deal here for someone in my position.. i have about a have of the chips he has, he has been chipped up all night. the only experience i have of heads up is the daft (but some incredible poker played) home gameswe have with 'at-it' and my other mates. he suggests a 500 600 split to end it there but i'm feeling good and think i could take it... so the CR manager suggests 450 each play for the rest...I agreed. with a freerole on the 260 remaining |(i think i should have said 200/60 for this final section) anyway first hand q 10... he raised i call... flop j q K... he raised again.. i re raised.. he put me all in, by this point i cant pass... he had kq and the K or 9 didnt come.. so i end up with 30 quid more than if had not made a deal. but still pleasing given the position i was in with 12 and on the final table.

So I have two questions, one: is playing conservative near the bubble.. even if it means going real low, a bad tactic? two: should i have bothered with a deal, or got a better deal?!

Oh and apart from that it is my highest live finish! dad dont dance

I don't like dealing, unless I need to cut my losses.  Then I can be persuaded.

If I was in your position and the big stack offered me the deal you where offered I would have took it no hesitation.

Regards playying conservatively near the bubble, I have tried this a few times and its always failed me miserably, I tend to stick to my normal game and play hands that I think have possibilities, Its good to tighten your game up in stages but never become too tame as someone will come over the top of you every time and you will eventually feel inclined to make a stand at some point - with me this is normally at the wrong time.

if I had taken the deal I would have got 50 quid more than i ended up with. By not taking that deal i had a shot at 260. so if i think i'm less than a 5-1 shot surely i should take a punt at the lot?

I dont think the way i played allowed me to be walked over, i just like to pick the spots - as a short stack i'm happy to take two live cards when need be...as long as its the right spot...
