well a whole debate has now started at work, because we've found conflicting evidence, but apparantely...... a GK is not allowed to roll his sleeves up.... it's something to do with being able to distinguish between players when for example a keeper is going for a punch from a corner.  makes sense, but barthez always used to wear short sleeves, so I'm not sure where that all fits in.... very annoying

It was a rule many years ago that goalkeepers could not wear short sleeve shirts but as far as i'm aware it was lifted allowing the likes of barthez to start wearing them. There are many daft rules regarding goalkeepers, i know because i used to play in goal - but as for knowing which one is a bookable offence i couldnt say as i was never booked in the 12 years i played sunday league football (only 10 of those were spent in goal though)  0:-)

There used to be a rule that goalkeepers had to wear long-sleeved shirts, but that seemed to go a few years ago when the Mexican goalie with a penchant for loud shirts started wearing short sleeves.

Now lots seem to do this.

Sounds like the question is out of date.

Haven't had time to check the other posts, but the goalkeeper has to wear a different colour shirt to outfield players and officials so I can't see them getting a yellow for that.  Plus that would be a specific rule in the section about uniform and it isn't to my knowledge and memory.
