just thought i would let everyone know that salford is no longer the only club in manchester (thank god)

we now have the circus nr oxford street (next to travel inn)

they have a free buffet every tournyment, dealers, and big cash games,  the only problem is the terrible blind struchure
2x 45 rebuy levels,  then they DOUBLE every 15 min, when they get to 500-1000, its 1/2/2/k/4/8/8/16 which leads to a major crab shoot at the end,  but its better than salford so carnt be bad lol

anyway they have threwout july, Tue - 50 pot limit rebuy,  Wed - 100 NL rebuy,  Thur - 20 PL rebuy,

i think 50/100 are 2k starting not sure 20 is 1k,

i only heard about it last week just thought i would spread the knowlege,  hope to see u there gl

I joined Stanley Circus about 2years ago as it was so central in town, Personally I felt like I needed to go home and get a grey cardigan and a newspaper, get a comfy corner and fall asleep.

Needless to say I never went back! Now, if only they had the room to put a Card room in the Hard Rock  Grin

No NO NO NO ....been going to the Circus since it opened.....lovely tinkley music....stylish sweepy stairs.....a little man to park your car and lovely comfey seats.

Not like that Hard Rock place where the croupiers have tattoos and you dont get a glass with ya lager....full of young people there....euck.

Now where did I put my slippers.

PS...not tried the card room yet....hope to go this week.....i'll report back.....still think it'll be hard to beat good ole Blackpool.

There are two main problems with the new card room at Stanley's in Manchester.

Firstly, the cardroom manager couldn't give a monkey's about the blind structure. Almost everyone has told him the structure needs modifying. His stock repsonse is that five hours is long enough for a tournament and he wants the comp finished so he can go home. The blinds are fine until it reaches 500/1,000, but then doubles twice to 1k/2k then 2k/4k. And these are only 15 minute blind levels. I have a feeling that the structure will not be modified for tonight and tomorrow, despite the comps being 50 rebuy tonight and 100 rebuy tomorrow. Having said this though it does lead to players making more mistakes by not adapting their play to the rapidly escalating blinds.

Secondly, smoking is allowed at the tables, and a lot of the players smoke. It could not possibly be any smokier. This can't be emphasised enough. If you can't stand smoke, this isn't the place to go.

The casino address is Stanley Circus Casino, 110 & 114 Portland Street, Manchester, M1 4RL.

I have been informed all Stanley casino's operate the same ante strucutre. Not sure if that is true or not, but for the ones around the North West it is true.

Perhaps Blonde-ites around the country could confirm this or not. But sharp ante structures aside they seem to be pulling in people, still how could they fail to in the middle of Manchester and not a decent game unless they travel 120 miles upwards on a round trip.

As the more serious players come in to play at 50 and 100 they will need to change. But will they. I believe they have a Poker Co-ordinator job going, but will they do what they are notorious for doing and not listen to the people who know the game we all love. Or just suddenly decide that they have had enough of catering to the public and drop poker on its ass like they did just a few short years ago. Surely they have only introduced it because all their casinos are empty, and they have staff with no punters to deal to. When they get busy again will they still provide dealers for free, or even at all. I doubt it very much. They will be pulled back in2 the pits to deal house games.

im from manchester and played first time at circus last week

PLUS POINTS

Free buffet, Fast efficient waiter service with free drinks, brand new crad room good condition, okay dealers, valet parking.

NEGATIVE

Smoking, ante structure all above is true its just not enough chips although okay at the start by the time it got to final table it really was fold or all in. In fact the first two hours were crazy as well because of rebuy and if you were betting you had to be willing to put it all in. Id like to see either more starting chips 2k or shorter blind increases near the end. Apart from that its a really good game with a few fish and a few stufdents which creates alot of dead money in the pot cos they can only afford 1 or two buy ins which does add for good value. 100 runners with 10k  prize pool. Its certainly worth trying.

Also after you get busted there is quite a good texas holdem cash table and a dealers chocie table with alot of money in play and its worth coming for that action. Definetely check it out if your in the manchester area.

From original post in this thread: "...which leads to a major crab shoot at the end...".

Off-topic I know, but this made me laugh for about 10 minutes - great mental image for some reason.

Was it just me? Is the sunny weather getting to me? Have I got a purile streak a mile wide?

Yeah, I could see that being an issue... options:

a) only aim for the edges of the crabshell, so as to deflect ricochets (spelling?) to the sides, or

b) use a paintball gun - no-one said this was a crab-shoot-to-the-death scenario, after all.

Glad it wasn't just me, though. Thought I was going to have to go and have a quiet lie down.

Think I might anyway...

Yes as far as i know stanleys all operate to a uniform ante structure, with them deciding to take on poker again seriously they have somewhat of a lack of experienced supervisors so therefore they pool their low resourses and have evrythin pretty much run by 1 or 2 individuals, hence the awful ante design.

The poker co-ordinator job i read about soemwhere but can't remember where so if anyone has any info i'd love to hear it as i'd be interested in moving outta Yogi's shadow and standing on my own 2 feet again lol.

and as for not beating blackpool at the circus they seem to be going all out to try going up in direct opposition to us with their comps and their somewhat cagey responces to any attempts to get any info outta them regarding their success lol

Ironside - one word...

Fun!

[sidenote: if it's fluffy or furry, enormous or able to jump through hoops, I'm very much against bloodsports. I'm just not a fan of crabs, although they do look like they could hold cards in their claws, if you know what I mean]
