An old chestnut but.........What do Victor Chandler actually give to get to call the main event at the summer breeze festival at Brighton, (this coming week) the VC poker cup.
They are garanteeing One seat in the Super saterlite...which as a rebuy and add on tounement, is gonna get at least 10 into the final.
Am I missing something or is this just a chance for VC to promote their site with flyers or trinkets (Keyrings, pencils miniture card packs etc) for the players.
Is there any juice for the venue to cover dealers or floorspace or The Buffet (heaven forbid).
When will the players get together and make a noise, prefrably in frount of the cameras. A five minute boycott or a message from a player rep.
Will we players ever show our teeth.
or will we let these companies get free publicity on our backs forever.
(See poker in europe tournement trail for referance to vc poker cup s/sat fri 8/7/05)

i'm pretty sure that VC will have had to pay Rendevous Brighton to hold the Summer Breeze festival there, rather like if somebody has a company do at Gutshot, you're basically paying 2.5k towards the dealers wages, food etc

The VC Poker Cup seats are 5k a shot and the satellite itself is a 50 rebuy with 1 add on,  personally I think it will only be the 1 main seat to the event and 2nd gets cash because it won't generate 10k in a 50 comp

I'll be there all week apart from Tuesday and you know at the end of the day if they are adding prize money aswell, added bonus.  May more online sites add prize money to players!!

Why would you want to show your teeth if they're adding money ??

i must take issue with you mel. In my referance( Poker in Europe tournement trail) this weeks summer breeze festivel at Brighton is said to be sponcered by VC poker, yet the saterlite is only GARENTEEING one 5k entry to the VC poker cup.
This Sat at brighton being 50 rebuy plus one add on will get 60-80 runners about 120 rebuys and add ons so should easily cover VCpoker Garantee of one package to the 5k vcpoker cup...
It is not an additional package to the entry monies made up by the players it is only granenteeing that one 5k entry will be paid.
There is NO ADDED MONEY for any other tournement in the week. Yet it still says SPONSERED by VC poker. I refer back to my original post and say again what are us players getting for the free kudos vc poker get by having their name attached to this event.
Sponcership of any event must come with ADDED money.....
N.B. you also say you're PRETTY sure VC would have to pay to hold the summerbreeze festivel there.
This is an annual festival part of the 4 quarterly festivels held at the randevous each year. only this year it seems to have been userped by VC poker.
There will not be dealers in the saterlite event, except the final table as always provided, the only buffet is on saturday during the main event,so no added food or drink Except that normally well provided by the casino itself.
So I say again do'nt bury your head in the sand , WHY do these companies get away with it at our expence.

Sponsorship is in it's infacy, in the British Poker Scene.

Casino's and online Poker sites are just beginning to forge links with each other.

Yes VC probably paid something to The Rendezvous but I'd guess it wasn't much, if anything.

If they have It's Probably only enough to cover publicity etc. So even though they have a little extra money why give it to the players?Huh?Huh?Huh?Huh??

I'd imagine they might have supplied incidentals as well, ie KEYRINGS, Tshirts, Etc.

But who says the sponsors should put money in2 the game for the players. Only the players. At the end of the day, a casino is there to make money. And if they can sell sponsorship of a product to a company for a small price, then Y should they give it to the players?Huh?? Good for them to be making extra money.

They could give it to players for their ongoing patronage.

Or because if they didn't go and make it succesful then VC poker wouldn't have sponsored it.

Casinos still have a small minded attitude to you the poker player. They enforce rules upon you that are not fair, and not uniform. They dictate to you what you can/cannot do with your money. As Yogi has said once or twice its not your money until you win it. There fore you cannot decide what to do with it.

Just a random rant from a new member.

I may or may not agree with statements made on this post.

The gaming board don't seem to help much with this as well.

I kind of agree with Eric.

Sponsored events should have added prize money. The sponsor may well pay the casino/poker room for having their name attached to the festival, but without the players there would be no festival.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time before this becomes standard practice.

It's possible for the general poker player to benefit without added prize money though. What if the sponsors money was used to improve general card room conditions for a year? Maybe a few sponsored festivals a year could help pay for house dealers for every event (even the small ones) for example.

Improved card room conditions would be very nice.  Dealers for smaller events, excellent.  I'd be happy to sacrifice added prize money for those two alone.
