I wanted to know why there are not more female players in televised events?

This is something which has confused me, 20% of players online are female. So why are there not more in events like WPT, EPT, ect.

Surely with all these females playing, they should have as much of a chance to get to a WPT final table as a man has?

As much as a chance as any one else? Yes sark, but if a field of 300 consists of 20 females then it is just percentages that more men get to these big finals then women surely?  If the field the split 50/50 then i'm sure imo it would be more even.

There are some terrific female poker players on this site. Full stop.

I think the lack of female players in the top echelons has something to do with the history of the game. We are now reaching an age where poker is losing its image of smoky card rooms and overweight shovenistic men gambling their families earnings. The weight of top female players will grow im sure in this enlightened age but it takes time, like black football players pre 1980's.

Im sure if you surveyed online female players and asked them there views on playing live, that there would be quite a few who do not play because of fears over how they would be treated in what still is a male dominated world. The truth is to play at the top level playing live is where it is at.

Poker is a level playing field no matter what your gender and the only reason i think poker will stay mainly male, is that it appeals more to the male ego/ competiveness. Like the fact, despite modern times, football crowds will remain 80/20 male if not more.

I've noticed that there are much more males playing poker, especially in the games with expensive buy ins, of all the big final tables I've witnessed, I've never seen a woman on them, except online poker tables. It's not because we're not good enough but the tourneys just don't seem to attract many women.

The casino started a ladies poker night and it went on for a few weeks then they cancelled it because only a few would turn up, not even 9/10 for a single table.

Exactly what I was meaning Poppet,

I play against alot of players online who are female. But I never seem to see many of them at big televised events. Your example was what I was refering to.  ( I didn't mean the females who I play against in particualr...i meant females in general)

thanks sark for giving me a mention on your good players list. have you ever seen me play? lmao. i think there is a big female presence on blonde and would be curious to know the male/female ratio of members. i was also wondering about high buy-ins as poppet points out. is sponsorship entry something women find more difficult to come by? if so, that might be part of the problem?
also, well done on your hero status. i enjoy your posts and always feel i can contribute to them.

keep up the good work and remebmer the lesson you have learned today. always check you lists before posting names then you wont have to get a hammering from all the ladies here...lol

take care

Mad, the Male to Female Ratio on Blonde is: 6.4:1

I would love to play more live events, but a lot of women players are mothers too remember, it's not all that easy to find someone to look after the kids when you go away for a night, let alone a few days.Hence why there are so many online, you have no sitter problems!

Thanks Mad, it is cool to think of myself as a hero now..lol,  Yea I know I must have missed out alot of names on my list . All I can do is appologize..lol

My reason for this post in the first place was to try and find some figures/ reasons for the difference in numbers. I have to do a really boring stats course for Uni. It is only a tiny part of my course, but I am allowed to pick my own project. I thought It would be possible to do it on the reasons for the differences between online poker figures between men and women. After searching around online for suitable figures, it is just too hard a task to spend time on in relation to the small percentage of my overall mark it counts for. Thanks for peoples comments anyway.

In 'almost' every activity, sport, passtime, club, etc. etc. there is usually a bigger percentage of males than females.

If you could count all the sports people in the world, I wonder what the ratio would be. I'm guessing that there would be a lot more men.

I think there are many reasons for this. The main one being the scientific differences between male and females. It has been proven that there are, believe it or not, certain differences between male and female brains.

If you notice that in general when you talk about cars in a group of people it's usually the men are more interested. The same goes to poker. If you suggested a game of poker to a group of people that have never played before, the men would usually be more interested than the women. Thats a bit of a general statement and of course doesn't apply to everyone.

What about.....

Box-ercise
Yoga
Netball
Hockey
Soap Operas
Knitting
Opera
Ballroom Dancing
Gymnastics
Baton Twirling and fekkin around with pom-poms
Horse Riding
Ballet
Baking
Shopping
Fekkin aboot with pom-poms
Bacardi Breezer drinking
Speaking on the Telephone

oh

and child rearing

Plenty more I'm sure.

The Wolds population is 51% female after all.

If I were a woman, I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of my counterparts in poker. In fact I'd like things the way they were.

With less women about, men are more likely to make mistakes at the table that you can take advantage of.
