I have another question concerning computers. Can we have a new section on Blonde ' Computing tips for idiots '  Cheesy

Ok, here goes. Sorry if I get the language wrong here.

On the Gadget show recently, I saw a little card type thingy. By connecting this card to the laptop the guy was able to save files, ect. It is similar to a disk, but connects to the same port as my printer/MP3/mouse ect.

I want to be able to save essays, ect and move them around between my laptop and a stationary computer.

Can anyone tell me what I need to ask for, if you know what I am refering to. Also what size of card thingy do I need to be able to store around 80 pages worth of data. I think I saw something similar in Dixons, but there were 3000 people waiting to be served and I was late for my train, so couldn't wait.

Thanks

USB disk drive?

They're cheap as chips, I seem to have aquired 3 of them and have no idea where they came from! (or more to the point - where i've put them...)

What kind of files do you want to store on there? word docs?

Yea, like microsoft word docs , Bongo.

It fits into the USB and you are able to move it around between computers after saving something.

Thats a terrible name. If I was a marketing man for the company that sells this thingy, I would ask my designers to come up with another name.

Are you sure we are talking about the same piece of equipment. I can't remember Suzi Perry saying that word before. I can't even pronounce it. The guy in PC world will think I have been on the becks.

Yeah, just ask for a USB keyring drive and they should know what you mean Smiley

Word docs aren't big so I imagine most sizes will work for you (can't think i've ever seen one below 16meg and that was a while ago).

Although you probably want to check all the prices out as it's probably better value to get a bigger one while you're at it!

Just had a look online and it seems a 128 meg drive can be had for £10 and 256meg for £15.

I appreciate your help Bongo and Mad. I will look for one tommorow when I am in town.

Thanks

I knew you were at it Kev, I was about to do a search on the internet for the 'gigaloptic terminus plate'. Then I thought to myself, no sane business owner would ever produce a device for the public with a name like that. Nice try though :-)

Don't spend too much.  You can save yourself a fortune online with these things.

http://www.directusbstore.com/cnb/shop/directusbstore?productID=383&op=catalogue-product_info-null&prodCategoryID=19

I got a 2gb one of these but it sounds to me like the cheap £13.99 128MB will do you.
