Ok, didn't want to hijack Poppets good news.

But with all this talk of CRBs I wanted to know what this enhanced CRB thing is??  What's the difference?

Also wondering if people who have these realise they run out pretty much the moment they've been signed??

ok, so us jungle folk may be a bit behind the rest of civilzed society - you are enquiring about what an enhanced CRB is?

Please could you inform us simple creatures what a CRB is in the first place?

Yep it stands for the Criminal Records Bureau. You have to re apply every time you move schools in teaching. Right effort it is, the fact that i had been at uni and moved house every year, threw them completely. As we all know given recent problems in teaching the system is shall we say less than bullet proof.

I don't really think they are worth much to be honest. It ticks a few boxes, but it is by no means a failsafe. Certainly the standard one is not worth the paper it is written on.

I am in the process of sorting them out for my moderators, and staff at my work.

They are Criminal Records Board Checks. Needed for individuals who come into contact, or work with children as part of their daily work.

The difference between an enhanced and a basic/standard check is that it is all the records from all the police forces, and also they cross check a number of special lists.

As Bracken said .. they are out of date as soon as they are issued, and the majority of those who have offended and are prosecuted of any child related offences have no crimincal record of any sort before they are caught for the child related offence.

It's also very difficult to get one as you have to go through a clearing house or official body to get one - and officially you can't apply as an individual, which ends up being a catch 22 situation for some people.

One good thing though (for me anyway), the CRB people never used to recognise that it was good practice for online moderators to have a CRB, but now they recognise and accept applications for checking from them.

And it takes bloody ages.
