I think this would be better here than on the internet board?

Anyway, I was watching a bit of Poker Night Live the other day and one of the studio guests was playing a STT and (without realising) had timed out on her previous hand, which meant she automatically folded KK when it was her turn to act.   She was berating her luck, especially as a King came on the flop which would have won her a large pot, when the presenter said something along the lines of:

If she had acted (called/rasied) with her kings she wouldnt have done so as quckly as she had auto-folded.  Because of this the flop would have been different because the computer shuffles right up until the time the flop/turn/river is due and by entering the pot she would have taken an extra 2 seconds which meant what happened after she folded could be ignored.

Is that right??!!

Bascally, yes.

Random number generators (RNG) are like virtual bingo machines, the cards are milling around in cyber space until the moment they are required

This makes absolutely no difference to the fairness of the game or to your odds of hitting/missing your draw, however, it would be nice to be able to see it you made the right or the wrong decision

Thank you.   So if you fold a flush draw on the flop (after considering it for 5 seconds) the turn/river that appears is not the one you would have seen had you called immedately.  I wonder how many people knew that?

:O

Surely not?!?! Do you know this for certain? If so, I am flabberghasted.

The cards only require to be shuffled once.
It would be kinda wasteful of computer resources (CPU, etc) to be CONSTANTLY shuffling the remaining deck on EVERY table.
I wouldn't imagine that any programmer would implement this, or why they would want to.
It doesn't happen in real-life, so can't see why it would be done online.

Ah, well, if we're taking it to that level, then I guess anything is possible. The next card out could have a picture of a dead cat on it, or something.

The idea is that at any point in the game, there is absolutely no chance you will know what further cards dealt will be.

Back in the early days of internet poker, Planet Poker had their shuffling algorithm cracked. Once the flop was dealt, it was possible to use the 5 known cards (flop plus your hand) to work out what each of the other players held and what the turn and river would bring.

This was actually a good thing as it made the poker rooms realise their security needed tightening up, which has now been done so that knowledge of this kind is now impossible.

Yep - I'd heard this too and always take comfort in it when my cards come out after I've folded!

I didn't know about it but it doesn't make any difference to me.  Like you say Claw, it is comforting to know that had I had not folded, I wouldn't have hit the hand.

Sometimes it also depends on the machines they use, like with Camelot who do the lottery most of the sites name their machines.

You can tell if you have a female machine and its the wrong time of the month as man some of those beats are brutal!!

Had you not folded, you might have hit, had you called quicker you might have missed....

So when people get outdrawn, it's all Heisenberg and Schrodinger's fault now, is it? Players are always looking for someone else to blame...

Yes I know.

Thought I'd write it for the benefit of those who may not know that you know.

So now everybody knows. (I think)
