When people ask what kind of player you are, I always refer to myself as a MTT player. I was having problems before making the money or final table, this was back in November and then the wife came up with the answer for me.
I know we are all different and many of you are accomplished players at MTT and need no help, so this is for those of you wondering why you always go out just before the money, hope this might help some of you.

It was really very simple, although I never saw it myself.

As always I was playing a tourney and the wife brings me in a cup of coffee and asks me to move my feet off the desk so she can set it down asking how are you doing,
‘ok I’m 26th with 220 left” I’m stretched back in my chair and we chat for a bit, she then leaves and returns about an hour or so later, and after looking at me says OH you must be at the money point I will leave and let you get on with it.
How on earth did she know it was bubble time? I shouted her back and asked “how did you know”
she laughed and said “because your feet are off the desk and you have pulled yourself up close to the screen” I thought about it and realized right then, this had been my problem, the cards were not going to be anymore different now than they was before, but for some reason I played much more intense every hand seemed critical, so since then I have had a board up on the wall above my computer and is says  RELAX , DON’T OVER THINK THEIR HANDS..DONT BE AFRAID TO GAMBLE IN THE MONEY STAGES….. I’m pleased to say I have made many final tables since I did this and play with much more confidence.

Like I said before, most of you probably don’t have these problems, but this might help someone, I hope it does. GL

If you get too intense fire up an STT or 2, it helps to distract you.

Of course not.

Ah well that would be problem number two LOL

I have never been any good at multi tasking, all my efforts go into the task at hand.

I used to get intense. But now I found the Dolphins man.. lol

No seriously, listen to some Dolphins and Whales on CD.  It is so relaxing.  If I find myself drifting off, I put on some of the Gladiator soundtrack.
Ennio Morricone and Elmer Berstein also wake me up. I change into a gun fighter when that music comes on.

Somebody on Blonde gave me a good piece of advice about mtt. It was not to pay attention to the pay-out table. I have only started learning mtt. But I always looked at the paytable and imagined what the money would do for me. Now I never really look at it.

I can recommend itunes and have some good stuff playing. I have all different genres for different times in a comp but if you want to relax movie original scores do the tick I find (don davis/matrix and Braveheart themes are sooooo relaxing). When in chip gathering mode why not try some gangster rap. If you are ever sat next to me live just sneak a peak at my ipod to see what mode I am in- if I have mellow on and have still gone allin its the nuts obviously.

note to self - keep my ipod screen covered at all times, even when playing online at home by myself  Cheesy

have to admit this one works with me as well both live and online. used some fpp's to get the ipod nano of pokerstars and with over 1000 songs saved to memory you cant go wrong. It certainly worked when i got down to the final table of my WSOP satellite last week, turned everything off apart from the one screen table, turned my ipod up full blast and told myself i was playing a $10 sit and go!!
