De La Hoya is fighting in June at Welterweight

I thought he had retired.  who is he fighting?   .

Alot of people think sports people just compete for the money.  This is a perfect example of a sportsman competing for the love of the sport. Surely he makes enough from Golden Boy promotions. So it must be because he still loves the sport rather than just the money..

I remember the 4 round fight against Chavez in 95 ... that was some cut that chavez had..

There's definitely money in the Welterweight, Light Middleweight divisions. Some big fights soon...

Completely disagree. De La Hoya set up Golden Boy specifically for money.

The fight with Hopkins who outweighed him and was miles closer to his peak - money.

Original fight with Trinidad - money.

No this wasn't what I was meaning, mate.

If de la hoya has come out of retirement. It can only be for the chance to win again and an another title.  He has enough money, why else would he want to fight again other than for more success.

He doesn't need the money,  he wants more success..

Well this is what I mean. If he wanted more success why fight a washed up Hopkins? It's lose-lose. If he wins people say Hopkins is washed up. If he loses they'll say he isn't as good as Hopkins. It's why Lennox never fought a blown up Roy Jones Jr at heavyweight. I think the $10 million each they were offered (as well as %'s of TV revenues coming to a lot more than $10 million when you consider the HUGE hispanic population who tune in) may have had something to do with it!!

Time will tell. If De La Hoya only comes back to fight a name rather than some young and hungry champion, the world will know that money is now his motivation. It has been for the last 5 years IMO.

I heard something similar.

TBH I'm not half as interested as I would have been 6 years ago when they had the "TV Deal" thing live on TV. They really were the best in the world then. Shame they couldn't agree. Hopkins ego over Jones beating him years ago meant that he wouldn't take less thean 50%.

Now Hopkins is the only one anywhere near what he used to be. He'll murder Jones.

Jones is shot to pieces, hes totally gun-shy like Wlad Klitschko, but Wlad can pack a punch.

The belts dont mean much these days, its the fighter that makes the belt.

Agreed except in the heavyweight division where the WBO belt means nothing.

When Lennox retired I thought that Harrison was the next big thing for UK Heavyweight boxing, but the guy is a comedy, how could he lose to Julius Francis ffs.

Hopefully David Haye can fly the flag.

I think we'll have to wait a long while for the next heavyweight golden era.

It's all about Mr Kahn.
