Turbo STT hand KK
«

I don't usually play KK this way, so thought I'd be safe enough to post this.
Feel free to slate my play.
Hold'em No Limit - Level III (25/50) - 2006/04/06 - 22:51:56 (ET)
Table '22643488 1' 9-max Seat #8 is the button

Seat 3: dnKid (1655 in chips)
Seat 4: justwinbaby8 (1405 in chips)
Seat 5: Stewnod (1570 in chips)
Seat 6: pocholoallin (2525 in chips)
Seat 7: rexinator (1800 in chips)
Seat 8: schafs 99 (1685 in chips)

Having not re-raised pre-flop, bet too little on the flop and meekly checked the turn, what would you do now?

I'd seen enough of dnKid to know that he's a good player, fairly aggressive.
Certainly not a player I like to meet in the later stages.

I would fold. There are 8 cards that could complete his straight. He could have made trips, two pair. He may be on a flush draw.
I am slow at working pot odds, so I am not basing it on that. Give me the rest of the day to work that one out..lol
You are more experienced, so you probably have the better answer. Did you pass?

when he calls a 350 flop bet then bets out 400 after you check the turn, you'd agree this is often just a very plausable steal or bet with simply a pair on the board.
That bet would see you folding often so I doubt he hit that str8 so this says call.
However, when you play kings that slow you have to play it like top pair and be prepared to put it down to a bet on a scary board so this says fold
This is a yucky position to be in and this is why I never ever slow play a big pair, the slowest I go is calling only when there is a healthy raise and the raiser is the type to make a continuation bet on the flop regardless of the card that come out.
Having said all that, you are vlearly a strong sit n go player and it would be a mistake for you to take advice on this, but I assume nothing I've said is a revelation to you
.
So, how did the hand play out? you folded right?

Its a difficult one. I dont put him on Aces because he didnt re-raise when it came back round to him pre flop. Would he play 78s like this pre flop? If so his play post flop is a big red flag. He could just as easy have flopped a set and could now be scared of the run/flush draw and is after information, knowing you will have to fold or go all in at this stage. Like I said, its difficult, even more so given your pre flop play
Given the fact this is a Turbo STT I'd go all in, hoping he had an overpair. I wouldnt be too surprised to see him turn over 78 or a set though.
In a MTT I'd pass. Maybe that shouldnt come into my thought process, but it does!

OK we'll give you a pass on the pre flop play where you seem especially keen on playing KK multiway
Why check on the turn unless you are looking to check raise?
I can't put the foe on AA after he's played it like that pre-flop (but then I wouldn't put you on KK either!!!) and think i'll take my chances here
His bet can be a steal as often as it is a made hand
For my part, I think you are way ahead
Lump it in.

I hardly ever slow play big pairs in multi-way pots in these things. This was me mixing it up.
As he's a solid player my thought process should have perhaps gone something like this.....
He wouldn't have raised UTG with 22-77 or low ass cards. He would have been likely to juice up the pot preflop with AA.
He likely has 88-QQ, lump it in.
Too busy folding on other tables to think clearly, I was concerned at his flat call on flop with 3rd player still to speak. That's why I check folded the turn.
Poor play on every street, but thats hindight for ya.
Think I'll stick to my weak-ass, super obvious game for now.

The only hand i slow play is AA.
I've busted too many slow played KK's and QQ's to remember.
DC said the other night his object is always to pick up the pot uncontested and has no regrets if he only picks up the blinds with anything other than AA.
I think the fold is correct.

tank.......... nothing wrong with obvious if you still win
I'm not saying this applies to you for a second, but we all know that 'mixing it up' is a handy excuse sometimes for oopid play
Just like 'I was playing to win' is a good excuse when you bust out!

So true.
Why did you tangle with the chip leader with a marginal hand?
I was playing to win.
