Does poker affect anyone else the way it affects me?  It consumes me, its taken over my life, I play as much as I can, when Im not playing poker Im thinking about it, talking about it or reading about it and Im as happy as a sand boy

Perhaps Im prone to obsessing, when I played snooker I would do 6 or 7 hours competitive play and then have a couple of hours practice almost every day, I never got tired of it, I just wasnt good enough

I have been passionate about other hobbies/sports call them what you like, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, metal detecting, (Dont knock it until youve tried it) outdoor survival, (sleeping in a field and lighting a fire by rubbing two boy scouts together) Dog breeding and training I admit I felt obsessive about these things, but poker is different, I seem to have found the thing Ive been looking for all my life, sometimes I dont know if thats sad or wonderful, but I love it

Is it just me?

Nope, me too. By coincidence, I had a passion for snooker for many years, but, as with the poker, I was just not quite good enough. Practriced for hours too, until all my faults cam naturally. Always B team material. Then golf - Z team material at that.

By the way "happy as a sand boy". What's a sand boy?

You're obviously one of those people who never do things by halves.

I'm the same. If I commit myself to something, I put my all into it, and the same applies to poker.

Hope you're not going mad, although I have sometimes wondered.  Roll Eyes

I'm playing poker as I read/type this. I think that means I'm in the 'obsessed' bracket too.

Anyone for 9-ball ?

I've just bought a new cue and lack any competition.

Oh yes, and I'm sort of the same  :Dl

A sand boy is actually a sand flea which, as the name suggests, lives in sand, usually on the beach, when it moves it jumps and spins looking like its really enjoying itself

You just made that up. I'd assume a sand flea is called, well, a sand flea.

red dog i think im the same as you. i play all i can when. i go to work in the morning i think about last nights poker. i think about what hands i played well, what hands i didnt, if i made a bad call and got away with it, if i made a good call and got unlucky. i then get home from work and i go on the computer and play ,sometimes i stop for food, depends if the wife is making any Wink. i go to the casino now and then and play.and after all that if for a moment i stop playing or watching it i read about it on here. poker has truely become a passion in my life and i throughly enjoy it. bring on the next hand

Similar to my thread.  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=880.0

I'd play more if my bank roll could cope with my bad play.  Speaking of which, how do you know if you're on a bad sreak or playing badly?  Difficult to know when you're new to the game and adjusting your play as you add knowledge.

Use a tool like poker tracker to analyse your plays.

i am not hooked - yet.

I do think it would be sooooo easy to get so that nothing else exists. Its the sheer competetive element in folks and sometimes determination to get better or not to be beaten that can drive you mad Shocked
when you have a good or a bad game you want another cos yer on a role or ye want to get rid of a bad beat sitiation or bad game.

most of my pals play and where the footie used to be the main topic down the pub(not just now too painful) its now strategy, bad beats, any poker topic.
Bu then again i`m naturally competetive at everything i do but poker also makes you "THINK" and thats a challenge

now back to the books and the pc for a while Grin
