"the wind in my heart, the dust in my head"

So anyway, there I was at Luton, playing in the Chiltern Charity dealio, not getting any luck (as usual). Only saving grace is that I'm not the only one, the guy to my left is on his fifth or sixth rebuy by the time he finally wins a hand.

He turn to me and says, "I can't believe it actually, been so unlucky lately."

I nod in sympathy.

"Actually my wife died last week," he adds.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," I instantly say (it's a knee-jerk reaction, I'm a well-brought up boy)

"Yeah," he says. "Blonde. Hate it really. Hairdressers, eh?"

At which point, I lower my head, smile a semi-embarrassed smile, and tap the table respectfully.

"Nice one," I say.

And of course, the guy to my right just can't stop giggling...
