No. I would much preferred it to have gone to Allardyce who has achieved spectacular results with very poor material & a minimal buidget.
But there's no right or wrong here - it's wholly subjective at this stage.
The sad thing is that, as England Manager, he will soon be turned from hero to villain, no matter how well he does. "British Disease" - do well, & get knocked. It's the one thing I admire the Americans for - largely speaking, they do not knock success.

Correct appointment IMO. He's been in the England set-up, tasted success as coach at Man Utd and seems able to perform miracles with Miserable FC. Big Sam is easy to like but not the right man for the national job.

I agree. Big Sam is a great manager and coach, but the top players like Beckham do not respect him.

I think the guy gets a bad press and would have rather seen big Sam get the job but he has it now and good luck to him, he certainly seems to be very well respected for his work by his peers.

same here - you would have to give steve Mc the nod due to his experience and exposure to the current squad of players. - as much as i like big sam i feel he is a little way behind - perhaps he could be mclaren's successor when he gets fed up of bad press and general negativity of the nation towards anyone in the englan managers job.

Perhaps, like Sam A, he has a lack of loyalty. Both left Notts County mid contract to take up other positions.

Robert, I went to see County v Sheff UTD in the year that you got relegated, we had just stormed away from the relegation positions after a horrid start and for the entire 2nd half we chanted 'you're going down, 'cause your shit'
I think that was the season that County tried to sign both our strikers and you ended up with Tony Agana for about 750k and we kept Brian Deane. Agana was a great player but got a bad injury which was a shame.
That **** Mark Stallard cost me a few quid a couple of years ago when he scored twice in the last few minutes to beat Huddersfield town after the Town centre half caught the ball on the penalty spot with 2 minutes to go.
Ahh, those were the days, a good bet and off to the match however obscure it was......one of the first dates I took my wife on was a trip to Scotland.....well actually I had a good bet on Queen of the South(my Scottish team) and we shot up to Dumfries on the Friday evening as the weather got bad, we got up on Satrurday concerned that the match could be off(well i was) but it was a lovely crisp winters day.
I took my beloved for a look around Palmerston Park before brekkie and we did some site seeing(we went to laddies and corals), before getting back to the hotel to prepare for the big match, only to get the news that the Arbroath team had been snowed in the East of Scotland and the match was off...... not to be deterred we then tried to get a train to Stranraer as their game was on but the next train was 8 hours away, so we went for a pint and curry instead.
The mrs still tells the story of how I invited her for a romantic weekend in Scotland and tried to take her to see the mighty QOS.

I think it's a shockingly bad decision, the good old FA have bowed to media pressure.
Why McClaren? i can't think of a single reason, he won the league cup 2 years ago and , err, erm, err......sod all else.
How much experience has he had as a manager?
His borough team are terrible, so much so that we (blues) played them away a few weeks back and murdered them on everything but goals (if only we had a goalscorer sigh).
They should have gone for experience and a proven track record regardless of nationality.

Of course not.
