Play has just started, with the final tables (apart from Nik Persaud, who's apparently in a cafe round the corner) already into their second or third hand.

A deal has been struck giving £500 to the four non-moneying guys (£1,000 off first, £500 off second and third) so they aren't going home from Day Three empty-handed.

Morning, all.

Joey Lovelady has become our first exit of the day. He made his move with K-Q, but ran into the Pocket Cowboys of Greg Howard (pictured below). He spiked a Queen, but it wasn't enough as the Turn and River brought mere blanks.

He doesn't go away empty handed, however, as, to the surprise of no one, savers were made so that everyone who made the final day went home with somesort of slice of the pie.

Morning Jen.

Flushy texted me to say he'd hit a 3-outer to win a 40k Pot already!

My top three picks?

Flushy & Chubbs, great guys, play the game with a smile.

Joe Grech, ditto.

Karl - due a big win.

Praz - an absoute Gent at the Table. I watched him make an absolutely astonishing (& successful) bluff yesterday against the "hard to push-off-even-half-a-hand" Mick Fletcher for a 120,000 Pot with 8 high. He's some player, & I think I may be in love with him.

News just in from our ringside reporter (that's Jen by the way).

On an all diamond 4-5-6 Flop, we have a battle of the blinds between Simon Nowab and Gary Fox, the former check-raising the latter's 12k bet with a deeeeeeeeep reach (must have been around the 100k mark).

Gary showed anguish in his face as he folded, so he was cleary tempted.

Three limpers on McCloskey's BB - one of them small blind Flushy.  Flop:  5h 6d 3s.  Check to Nik Persaud (limper 1) who bets 17k.  Jamie passes and Flushy announces Raise All In.  A think from Nik, but a pass when faced with calling 60k more...

Other table:  Joe Grech (My Pick since yesterday afternoon) Button raises to 18k, called by small blind Ian Nelson.  Flop:  Ad 7h Jh.  Chatty Joe announces he'd better check to see if he's got it when Ian checks to him (personally, I think he was seeing his hand for the first time) and then bets 18k.  Ian folds.
"I've got it," he says, showing Kd Ts.
Continuing his ramble, Joe says, "We're going to be playing some games today, I'm afraid.  Cat and mouse games.  Who is the cat?  Who is the mouse?"
Crackers, but still heading steadily for the final.

Nope, hold on, I just spotted him raising from the small blind. Ray Wyre, who somone described as a 'seasoned pro' folded 6-3o face up.

Not much action as of yet.

Ian Nelson has decided that he doesn't have enough chips to just raise the pot, so he's been moving his 50k all-in.

Fortunately (or perhaps he wanted calls) for him, his all-in have all gone through unscathed.

There are currently 18 players of the original 131 left in the tournament.

Flushy just raised to 15k on Karl's big blind. Stuart Nash thought for a good while before folding, only for Karl to comment sighfully, "I was really hoping you were going to move in there Stuart."

"What kind of speech play is that?" added Mick McCloskey.

"How much have you got behind you?" asked Karl inquisitively.

In the end, Karl did fold, but I reckon Flushy had nowt, it was written all over his face. He really should go and scrub that off.

Paul Higgins finishes in 18th place -

Short stacked, he found an open space and moved in with Ad 8d.  Unfortunately for him, neighbour Vince Birt woke up with Kd Kh, and wasn't going anywhere.  The board brought no help, and the quiet Irish player is out...

Meanwhile, another pair of shorter stacks, Mick McCloskey and Stuart Nash, get it all in preflop - the former moving in with 5d 5s and the latter calling with (victorious) 8d 8s.  Double through for Stuart, and Mick is in bad shape.

And Snoopy's snaps seem to have effectively bokked the Irish - Mick McCloskey finished in 17th place after moving the rest in with Td Jd, getting it through all the way to the big blind, who called with Ac 6h and knocked him out.

Play is hand for hand.  Chip counts soon....

Chubbs lumps in a 32k pre-flop raise and shows a Bullet when everyone folds.

Mick McCool quite rightly observes, "He doesn't f**k around when he raises."

Interesting hand involving Vincent Birt.

Vincent raised pre-flop with A-Q off, only to be called by Joe Grech.

Flop = Kd Qh 6d

Vincent bet out a small amount, and Joe called.

Turn = Kc

Vincent bet out once again, also a small amount (about a third of the pot) and Joe smooth called.

River = 4s

Vincent then decided to check, a prelude to Joe's 30k bet into what I am told was a 70k pot.

Vincent thought about it for a while before folding A-Q.

Good fold?

What do you think Joe had?

Double through for Praz -

Simon raises preflop to 32k, and Praz has to really think about moving in for his 60-odd - he's getting called... in the end he pushes, Simon calls, and they're on their backs...
Simon shows:  Ahrt 8c
Praz shows:  Ad Jc
Board comes out:  Ac Qs 9d Jh 9h

And after that, the chips are about so:

Alan Henson      53k
Flushy               140k
Stuart Nash       66k
Greg Howard    200k
Karl Mahrenholz  210k
Damon D'Cruz    86k
Nik Persaud        95k
Jamie Miller           64k

Joe Grech          166k
Ian Nelson         120k
Praz Bansi          120k
Robert Bright     135k
Vince Birt           101k
Ray Wyre            88k
Simon Nowab      180k
Gary Fox             61k

Close shave for Robert Bright.

Raising 24k pre-flop, Robert is met by an affirmative "All-in" announcement from Ray Wyre.

A spell in the think tank results in a Bright fold, only to see the Pocket Aces of Wyre.

"You save me there, I had Eights," adds Simon Nowab.

Don't think anyone got this, although Micko hinted at the bluff, but Joe Grech actually had Ad Jd for the missed flush draw. Interesting that he bet so little, worked though.

His nephew, Mick 'Slick Kid' McCool was fuming.

"He had to call that, it was obvious he was bluffing."

Just enjoyed a supremely surreal bout of dialogue with Joe Grech, who was having a quick fag on the rail.

snoopy: "Forget about that, Joe, you're missing a hand."
Joe: "Nah, it's okay, I can miss one"
snoopy: "That'll take years off your life anyway (pointing to cigarette)"
Joe: "Oh I don't worry about that, I know when I'm going to die"
snoopy: "Er... okay. When's that then?"
Joe: "I'm going to be 81."
snoopy: "I guess you'll be cramming in a lot of poker that year then?"
Joe: "Yeah, it'll be a Tuesday too"
snoopy: "Crikey, you're only going to fit in the £100 rebuy that week"
Joe: "Aah no, I won't be playing poker the night before I die..."

At this point, Joe returned to the game, but I feel we should wish him the best of luck today as he only has three years to live.

Yes, very much so. But Joe must have known Vincent had a decent holding and would be at the very least tempted to call such a small bet into such a big pot. Plus, there was no raise on the Flop, which perhaps a King would be expected to do.

I'd call, once the 2nd King comes, it's less likely Joe has one. Joe could easily be value betting a worse Q here.

Either way, it's a great river bet if he did or did not have a king.

Jamie Miller, who'd prayed pretty tight today and dwindled to what he probably felt an unacceptable level, moved in under the gun with 7s 6h, and it probably would have gotten through if Stuart Nash hadn't found Aspades Kd and called, taking all but the big blind from the young player...
The next hand it folded round, and Nik in the small blind autocalled blind, showing Kc Js.  Jamie turned his cards over one at a time showing first the 2d.. then the 2c. Nik warns him, "I haven't lost a race all year..." and with the Jack coming on the turn, the 16th player is eliminated - Jamie Miller exits the room.

Alan Hensen has doubled up to over 100k courtesy of James Dempsey.

Flushy raised under-the-gun, only to look on in dismay as Alan Henson moved all-in from the big blind with A-J.

It's another 36k more (the original raise was 23k), yet Flush still hesitates...

"Whatever I do here, everyone's going to know that I raised under the gun with trash"

Anyhow, he did eventually make the call showing A-4.

Flop = 9-9-K

"Pair the board!" demands Flushy, but to no avail as the Turn and River bring a Queen and a Ten.

Nik Persaud has had his share of premiums today - raising under the gun, no action, showing Aces; raising on the button, no action, showing Queens... "WTF is wrong with this table?" he complains.  Got one through without showing, too...

Robert Bright raises to 32k, and nearly gets a call from Joe Grech with his 5s 5h, but no, he decides against it (Robert shows Ahrt Kh)...

We are now on a 15 min break.

Another Irishman out, and due to a pretty sick call from Praz...

Praz raised on the button to 35k (blinds 5k/10k ante 1k).  Small blind Robert Bright moved in, for another 74,500.  This was a big decision... "You've got a pile of shit and a pair of balls," was the conclusion Praz vocally came to, calling with his Aspades 6s.
Robert showed:  Qs Td
Board:  2h 4c 3d 6c 2d

So Robert Bright  finishes in 15th place, for £1,600

Joe Grech raises to 26k pre-flop (blinds are 5k/10k), only for Ray Wyre to move all-in (he hesitated this time, unlike when he had the Aces) from the big blind for 79,500.

Decent amount of time spent in the think tank before Joe folds, only to allow Ray to smugly reveal Ac 4c

"Wow," whispers Joe shocked, "You got me there, you got me good and proper."

"You've blown your tight image now," added someone else.

Hot on his heels, Stuart Nash  is eliminated in 14th place, winning £1,600

He raised to 30k, and found Karl putting him in from the Big Blind.  Short stacked Nash thought about it a while.  Karl said, "You're either in a world of hurt, or you're very far behind."  "Neither of those is very attractive," replied Stuart, but he went for it anyway (looked pretty committed) with Ahrt 8h.  Karl showed Jc Jh.  The board showed no danger for Karl, and we're down to 13.

Good news for Irish fans as Vincent Birt has just doubled up.

He'd dribbled down a little, but he is now back up to 89k after surviving an Ac 8c vs Ray Wyre's Jd 9s battle of the blinds.

All-in preflop, the board came 7h 2h Kc 6h 3c and Vince lives to fight another day.

We have another double up.

Liverpudian, Ian Nelson raised pre-flop with A-4 only for Greg Howard to smooth call with A-7.

All the money went in on the rather emphatic A-4-4 Flop, and Greg is down to 78,000

And now he's given them back.

Minimum raising to 20k pre-flop, Ian Nelson fancied taking a pop with his Ts 9s when Greg Howard moved all-in for just 58,500 and an Ac 8h holding.

The Ac 2s Qh was domineering, but the 9h Turn must have result in a few sweaty palms.

Fortunately for Gregory, nothing came of it as the River revealed a harmless Ks.

Triple all-in News Now -

Finally short stack Vince Birt makes his move in late position.  In later position, Ray Wyre moves in over the top.  In even later position (well, the small blind), Gary Fox was all in too.  That hand had to be a monster, and it was:  Ks Kh.
Vince showed Kd 7d
Ray showed Aspades 9d

Flop:  3d 6s 2d  (the crowd gathers closer)
Turn:  9c
River:  Ac  And Ray is clearly a bit excited, with the clapping and the shouting... while

Vince Birt  finishes in 12th place, winning £1,600

Quickly following is Nik Persaud, whose A-3 (all in for 70k) was called by Greg Howard's A-9.
The kicker was enough to knock out Nik Persaud  in 10th place, for £3,000.  And we are now entering the grey break area of Final Table - uncertain when play is to recommence, but will get the chip counts etc. during this (fairly lengthy) pause...  they're estimating re-start at 7:30pm.

The Final table isn't due to commence until 7.30pm, but I thought I'd do my James Bond routine and take a sneaky peak at the bag labels.

As a result, here are the final table chip counts...

Praz Bansi -- 434,500
Karl Mahrenholz -- 414,000
Greg Howard -- 318,000
Ray Wyre -- 213,000
Simon Nowab -- 160,500
Alan Henson -- 104,500
Joe Grech -- 133,000
Ian Nelson -- 104,500
Damon D'Cruz -- 57,000

is it just the final table on the tv jen

No, the camera crew picked up very hands from the whole event.

Apparently each event gets two 1hr shows - the first will have snippets of coverage from the whole thing, and then more detail from the money finishes, and half the final table, while the second show will concentrate on the final five players.  This means that they'll be able to cover more hands than just exitexitexit - should be more about the cards, which would be nice.

Just spoken to Damon...he's going to push all in into the first unopened pot and try and pick up the 18,000 blinds, at least he's got seat 1 so the blinds don't hit him for seven hands or so.

More action!!

This time it's Alan Henson who enjoys the double up.

It wasn't easy though.

Finding Ahrt Jh in early position, Alan moves it all-in, only to be called by the criminal profiler, Ray Wyre, who was sitting on a pair of Ladies.

The Qd 2h 6c Flop was ideal for Ray, that was until the Turn and River brought a Th and 7h to give Alan an unlikely flush.

Much hilarity ensued, however, as both men cheered, Ray not quite realising he'd been Rivered.

Joe Grech is OUT and becomes the 9th place finisher winning £4,900

All-in with Tens against Praz Bansi's Ace King, Joe was forced to take the walk of shame past the audience as the board came K-Q-Q-J-6.

He does receive a chip set though for his final table troubles, as do the other 8 players.

We have limited, though good, press seating, so Snoopy and I will be taking turns updating the Final... here's my go masquerading as the Snoopy, until further notice...

The big stacks are Karl and Praz, with Simon trailing now and everyone else in the middle...

So far during my shift Alan Henson has nicked some blinds, then raised to 36k the next hand and won some more...that's your last ten minutes.

Simon moves in now for 74k, and neighbour Alan Henson counts out the call...and makes it.  Everyone else gets out of their way, and...
Simon shows:  Aspades Js
Alan shows:  Ah Ks

Flop:  Qc 9d 4s
Turn:  3h
River: 4c

So Simon Nowab is the 8th place finisher, winning £5,900

Ray raises on the button to 37k, Damon moves in - CALL

Damon shows Ahrt Aspades
Ray shows:  Ad Jh

Flop:  5d Th Jh
Turn:  5c
River:  Kh

So we have a quick post-break near-elimination, while Damon plays his second hand of the year Final.

The next hand, and Ray Wyre is of course all in for something like 2k, b.b. Karl checks after Alan makes the call preflop.

Flop:  Jd Jh 4h  Karl checks and Alan checks
Turn:  3h  check-check
River:  Kh

Karl shows K-T which is good against all-in Ray's Queen-high, so Ray Wyre is the 7th place finisher, winning £7,900.

Jon Raab lets us know that the series will be reaching us in August, after the end of Big Brother, so if you want to program your video...

Reaching the end of this level, and Alan Hansen raises preflop to 36k  - big blind Karl calls.
Flop:  Ad 4c 2d  Karl checks, Alan gives a short stare and a chew of his gum and bets 36k.  Karl raises to 90k total.  This prompts a countdown from Alan, and a lengthy think...and the hole card twitch makes us think it's going to be a pass...and it is - he shows J-J.  Karl may have taken the chip lead with this one.

As the blinds are raised to 8k/16k, ante 2k, I return control of the horizontal and the vertical to Snoopy...

Ian takes a chunk of chips off Praz with two pair, Aces and Queens... I was getting food for the desperate updaters who have discovered that noodles are available at the bar and energy is required for the maintaining of consciousness...

Anyway, Damon D'Cruz on the button moves in and Karl and Ian think about it...

Karl counts the chips and has a stare into the smiling face of Damon but thinks better of it, and he's got another set of blinds.  Low-stacked for days, and it looks like he's picking his spots well.  As Nik says, "The survival instincts of a panther."

There's a lot of folding at the moment, it's as if they've all caught paulparkersyndrome.

For those unaware of why snoops refers to Paul Parker syndrome - Paul who's a a special friend, & a huge supporter of blonde, made a quite extraordinary Pass on Day One of this event, since when the hand has been debated endlessly. After a "solid player" made it 600 UTG (Blinds 100-200) Paul smooth called with  9h 9d. (I don't actually know the suits).

The flop came  Aspades 9s 4d, again, suits unknown.

UTG Bets 500 now, Paul calls again.

UTG checks the rag Turn, Paul decideds to pump up the Pot a bit, & goes 1,000.

UTG moves all-in, Paul passes.

It's rumoured UTG had A-9, but Paul put him on AA.

Personally, I find A-9 improbable, a strange play for a solid player UTG early doors.

Poor Paul was teased mercilessly, but told everyone the story, until he found someone who agreed it was a good pass. It was, I believe, a Valet who agreed with him.

But before you tease Paul too much, remember this man is the ultimate Circuit Survivor, & he's been playing high-stakes Cash & Tourney since before many of you were born.

I can't make that Pass, few could, but that's not to say we are right. He's survived in Poker so long by reading the game well.

Karl raises preflop on the button and Greg Howard re-raises from the big blind...good idea.  Greg gets it.

Damon raises to 36k, Praz pushes in - Damon calls!

Damon shows: Jd Jh
Praz shows:  Td Tc

Flop:  7s Qd 4h
Turn:  5c
River:  Kc

Praz is in chip trouble now (comparatively), as Damon gets his third double up...

Paul Parker? He's probably had around 50 Fessie Cashes in the last 4 years, no Major wins, but he's predominantly a Cash Player. And a survivor.

Praz moves all in on the button, over the top of Greg's 40k initial raise.  No call this time.

--------------------------------------------

Two friends go into battle as Praz raises pre-flop and Karl makes it 160k total.

After some speech play from both players and a lenghty session in the think tank, Praz finally passes.

--------------------------------------------

Alan Henson smooth calls pre-flop, Karl Mahrenholz calls and Ian Nelson checks.

Flop = Kh Tc Ts

Karl bets 25k and takes the pot.

Flop = 7d 6c Kh

Battle of the blinds...

Greg Howard checks, Praz Bansi bets 35k, Greg called.

Turn = 6d

Greg check, Praz bets 70k and Greg folds, enabling Praz to make back the chips he lost to Karl a few hands previous.

Bit of a Prazathon at the moment, he seems to be playing everything hand.

Ian Nelson and Praz see a Flop of 9h Kh Kc

Both check and then Praz bets 16k on the 3s Turn, to which Ian responds by smooth calling.

River = 2h

Once again, Praz makes a bet, this time 20k, and Ian calls instantly with Ad 3c.

Praz takes the pot with 9s 7h

Agreed, many of us felt the same. I can't pass those Nines, for sure, & I'm Mr Rockity Rock.

But that misses the point completely.

a) He may have been  correct.

b) Neither Karl, Parz, or myself, have survived in Poker as long as Paul has. Paul has played & survived at a high level of Poker since before Karl & Parz were born. So we must be careful how we relative newbies judge the man.

I just wanted people to understand why snoops made the "Paul Parker Syndrome" comment, it makes no sense unless you know what was behind it, & the story had not gone beyond those present at Bolton.

Well I still got two of my three running.

Me too. I adore Tournament Poker, and as long as I nick enough to be able to continue playing it, that'll do me nicely. Many take the same view, others burst on the scene, shine brightly for a few month or years, then disappear. Poker is littered with such examples, including Bracelet Winners.

Each to their own, I'm happy to hang in there, I've never had so much fun.

you can survive in thease comps playing like that of cause once u get into the final the mind set changes or as you approach the bubble etc,   there is 2 ways u can play 1 go for the chips early try be chip leader threwout  or sneak threw gradually buliding grinding the chips and makeing the final then moving,   i tend to think from what i have read only is that paul is the grinder type he may never win a massive comp but he will make a lot more finals and win more money in the long run, which is what this game is about in the long run makeing the finals getting the paydays

So, revised counts:

Damon D'Cruz     222k
Karl Mahrenholz   714k
Ian Nelson         178k
Greg Howard      180k
Praz Bansi          531k
Alan Henson       207k

Greg Howard is a friendly guy - apparently he's not been playing forever like some of the finalists, but has had quite a bit of online success after deciding to take up the game...look him up if you want more.  Anyway, he bet on himself £20 each way at 125-1 so he's considering this a win-win situation, being on the final and all.

Damon D'Cruz raises on the button - it works and 42k in blinds goes to him.

Praz raises to 50k, in what passes for early position when you're six-handed.  Alan Henson re-raises all in, next to speak.  Back round to Praz, who takes his time on every decision, but has made so many good ones this tournament that we accept it.  Call, for the extra 120kish.

Praz shows:  Kc Qh
Alan shows:  6c 6h

Flop: Ad Ahrt Qs
Turn: 2d
River: Kd

And with three pair Praz Bansi eliminates Alan Henson in 6th place for a prize of £10,800.

Line 3 of that sums it up for me. When Paul is on you table, you gonna have FUN!

No sledging, no bad-mouthing, no undignified whooping & hollering when he sucks out on someone, (jeez, there was a lot of that in Bolton), Tournament Poker is much the richer for Paul's presence. Which is why I felt it necessary to explain snoopy's comment, in case anyone thought it was intended in a derogatory way.

The paul parker folding the second nuts is absolutely crazy in my honest opinion. Paul Parker sounds like a great guy but predominantly a cash game player. They always want the nuts before they get it in.
To narrow down an opponents holding to 2 exact cards is a fine art.

Tikay says he's a "survivor" with 20 years of being on the scene. But id rather win 1 comp than have 10 cashes.

I admire the fact that he went with his instincts however and it just shows what a remarkable read he thought he had.

I think Paul's view is that he'd rather live to fight another day then gamble all on winning one comp. He's doing OK so far, but I guess 20 years is a bit soon to judge..... ;)

Because the French Authorities deemed it illegal to hold a Poker Tournament in an Hotel which was not licenced as a Casino, as I understand it.

But if you are willing to invest £1k for a Tournament, you should be playing to win. Otherwise why are you playing a 1k buy-in tournament?

I feel a bit out of my depth discussing this, but playing to cash and survive so i can buy in to another tournament doesnt sound like optimal strategy with regard to game theory and risk/reward ratio.

I dont see why people are gettin on paul parkers back here for folding a hand. Ive never met the guy but heard he is a nice guy from a few other people.

Me personally am not good enough to put some1 on the 1 hand that beats me, and would have gone with my 99 on that board, but that is not relevant at all.

When you are at the poker table, you are making decisions on whats best for you, not to please the onlookers. Whatever decison you make at the table, as long as you are happy with it, then it shouldnt be criticised IMO. If Paul parker is happy with himself at the fold then who is anyone else to tell him otherwise. As for the guy who said that he is mainly cash game player so would be waiting for the nuts to put his money in, please, if you think thats how high stakes cash games work, please pull up a seat at my table!

Paul does play to win  and does know how to win
He has passed because he has decided he is behind    whether  he is right or wrong that was the choice he made on the information in front of him
it has nothing to do with just playing to survive

After taking this snap, Praz requested a sneak peak to "see if we look gay."

Fair enough, we all have different aims.
Wasnt being personal, was commending him for trusting his interests which many ppl dont. Just adding my two cents worth.

The cash game line was mildly sarcastic for anyone who thought otherwise.

It's only 34k, so Karl Marhrenholz is pretty much obliged to call from the big blind.

Karl = 5d 2s

Ian = 9c Js

Something for everyone on the flop.

2d 8c 9s

Turn = Ks

River = 6d

He must have alligator blood! Double up for Nelson, but he's still painfully short.

Big cheer from the Scousers present as Ian Nelson finds that crucial second double up!

All-in versus the Ac Jh of Greg Howard, Ian Nelson's 6d 5d found 8 more outs as the 3s Qs 4d Flop hit the felt.

Turn = Kc

Deep breath...

River = 5h

... and Nelson hit a pair to stay in the comp.

A hand plays out in record time, now, with Karl raising preflop to 90k, Greg Howard moves all in, looking for the double back with Aspades Kd.  Karl calls sharpish with Qh Qd...
Flop:  Jh Jd Qc with an anticlimactic 7s 8c turn and river so that means that...

Greg Howard finishes in 4th place, winning £17,700

Ian Nelson is now becoming a big threat in this competition as he enjoys yet another double up, this time courtesy of Praz Bansi who moved sll-in with 4s 4h.

Ian must have been terribly short chipped as he managed to find a call with 7c 6c, somehow finding himself in a rather fortunate coinflip situation.

And it worked out for him too as the Flop gave him a lovely two pair.

Aspades 6s 7h

High fives and lots of clench fists, but it wasn't over just yet, not only could Praz hit his set, but he now had a threatening flush draw as the Turn brought the Qs.

But it didn't quite happen with the 5h River and Praz takes a slight knock.

Now the Scouse fans are starting to get excited!

The nature of it being filmed makes the 'stage' a no-go zone.  Sorry.  Next break.  I will say that Karl has been restored to chip supremacy, it looks like, while Praz is also chipped and the shorter stacked Ian (250kish) will need another double up to threaten the top spot.

Incidentally, I don't think if it comes to a Praz/Karl heads up it will all be over in a flash and not matter who wins, by a long shot.  I think it would make interesting TV.

Chop-chop, although the lone club on the flop could have given Ian the tiniest straw-clutch of a winner for a little while.  It looks like Ian's not just going to sit there while his stack shrinks to more dangerous levels, which is good for the extremely keen audience.

We were deep in Day Two of this Event. I got Mick Fletcher in Seat 6, me in 7, Gosney in 8, & Praz in seat 1.

I'm just an onlooker, I can't go the pace with those boys, I got way above average & am biding my time, I need a hand against these boys, I can't ouytplay them. But as anyone who knows Mick Fletcher will tell you, when he gets chip's he's a right bugger to handle, R, R, R R R.

I don't think Praz had played Fletcher previously, though I may be wrong.

Praz joins the table, & sits out for a whle, watching tricks. Fletcher is Table Captan, BIG time, & once he invests chips in a Pot, he rarely passes.

I'm fascinated by this. Praz is eyeing up Fletcher, & I can sense an incident soon. They both have 60k ish.

Fletcher, again, Raises, UTG this time, makes it 4k to play. All pass to Praz. Praz think for maybe 2 minutes, staring at Fletcher the whole time. Then calls.

Flop comes  Kh Qh 5c

Fletcher insta bets, 10k this time.

Praz repeats the long dwell & stare. Never taskes his eyes off Fletcher. 5 minutes go by. Praz eventually calls. The entire table is spellbound.

Turn is  2h

Again, insta-bet by Fletcher, 20k this time.. Again, Praz thinks, Praz stares at Fletcher. Fletcher is like the Iceman, but he's looking a bit edgy now. Praz, after 6 or 7 minutes, calls.

River,  4c

Now Fletch makes his first mistake - he can't pull the trigger. He has about 20k left, & thinks, then taps the table. In a flash, Praz, still without taking his eyes off Fletcher, says "all-in", it's his last 20k

Now it's Fletchers time to dwell up, & dwell up he does, for an age. Eventually, he flicks his cards in the muck.

"Wanna see my hand?" says Praz. "Nope" says Fletcher.

But some nosey guy says "yes please, I do". I could not help myself, this hand was like the Ivey-Jackson hand in the  Monte Carlo Millions, which I also witnessed first hand.

And Praz turns over  7c 8d.

Breathtaking.

And poor briefly Mick left the table, to vent a little frustration. No need, he'd been outplayed by a great Champion.

Awesome stuff, & I'll never forget it. The boy has game.

Ian's all in again, re-raising Praz's 100k preflop raise...
Praz showed:  Jc Aspades
Ian: Ac 5h

Flop:  5d Ks Jd  (The Ian Nelson fanclub goes wild)
Turn:  6s  (The Ian Nelson fanclub goes quiet)
River:  9h

So Ian Nelson is our 3rd place finisher, winning £23,600

When they come back after this ten minute break, it'll be Team Members Praz and Karl heads up.  Snoopy wants to know, if one of them wins it, will they be the Leader?

Yes, most un-Fletcher like not to bet on the end. If he does, Praz mucks in an instant, but Praz was ready & waiting for the check, & moved in an instant. That was his plan I guess, he can't win it any other way. Unless Fletch had 7 high.......!

The heads-uppers return, shake hands amid production-crew staged applause.  Nothing boring about this match-up though, and the audience has thickened to watch the final stage of this tournament.  There's no doubt that both of them want to snatch the (astoundingly unattractive) trophy away from the other, and they'll be playing 'properly' while the blinds allow it.

The first hand of the confrontation is won by Karl, who bet out on the 6c Qs 9s flop (30k), called by Praz.  Praz was in fact ahead at this time with his 9-2, but when the turn and river came 7d 3c, it was Karl's 4-5 which had taken the lead and got paid to the tune of 80k.

A disgruntled audience member sneaks out of the TV area, muttering, "They'll be there all bloody night..."

Karl raises to 100k and gets some blinds.  Er... that story doesn't disprove the guy's theory.  Wait just a few moments, I am sure some more chips will change hands.

Karl has the button and calls.  Praz raizes 81k; call.
Flop:  5c Jd Qs   check-check
Turn:  5s  Praz bets out 100k; Karl calls.
River:  6c  Praz says, "that much," pointing at a row of 5k yellow stacks.  It's a big bet - 285k when counted.
Karl inspects the remaining stack of his opponent...and lets it go.  Praz shows Th 3c.

Still Jen here - I feel a strange compulsion to refer to my arms as 'guns' when Snoopy goes off somewhere.

While some passing goes on, a word about the TV arena - it is very large-scale, with a table bigger than that used for the EPT and audience seating on three sides.  It may be an interesting logistical problem to sort out fitting this mobile stage into some of the less roomy casinos on the Tour - Bolton is the largest, we think.  I can imagine cash games might need to be set up on top of the lighting rig, like bunk beds.

9h 8d 9d flop.  Praz checks, Karl bets 40k, Praz raises to 100k total, which wins him another pot.  The acoustics in here are weird - I can see them chatting away on the screen less than 20 feet away, but even though I could hit Karl on the head by throwing my pen (and I'm a poor shot) I can't hear a word.  Shame; they're probably tabletalking each other nicely.

----------------------------------------------

Blinds are currently 15k/30k, at which point I was told they would freeze, which seems reasonable.

----------------------------------------------

Praz raises 60k, call.  Snoopy, who can lip read, apparently, says Praz said, "Don't you want to think about it?" when Karl instacalled.
Flop 4d 9s 8h - Praz bets 100k, call.
Turn Tc  Praz checks, Karl bets 200k.  Praz announces all-in.....

"The entire table is spellbound."

Are you sure the entire table hadn't fallen asleep? A 20 minute hand is pretty sleep inducing in my book.

Karl passes.  Chips filtering down Praz's end of the table.

Oh God.

Please don't say we have teams like "The Crew" and "The Shippit Hollas" starting up over here.

I always thought poker was an solo pastime.

Please let there be no hollering and high fiving when someone gets outdrawn here, it might just be enough for me to give up the game. I absolutely cannot abide it myself.

This guy sounds exceptionally good. What are the counts snoops/jen?

It gets in preflop in two raises...

Karl shows Aspades 8c
Praz shows:  9h 9s

Flop:  6s 7c Qs

River:  I don't know, Karl was standing up in front of me.  Snoopy might be able to tell you.

This means, that Karl Mahrenholz finishes in 2nd place, winning £35,500

While it's Praz Bansi who's the inaugural  GUKPT CHAMPION, winning £75,500 (that includes the money added and the £3k final seat so it's really £65,500 but it's a lot of money in any case)

Congratulations to them both...

I played next to Praz for a few hours in the $1K event at the WSOP last year (that he went on to win).  He table-talked me out of re-re-raising with JJ from the button when he'd repopped me with 10's from the big blind.  Still regret that pot now (he bet out and took it off me on Q high flop).  Very good player and congrats to him for taking down another major event.

Sadly, there was plenty of hollering & high-fiving in Bolton, from a few players and from the Rail, but not by any decent players.

The better players generally win & lose with some semblence of dignity. When did you ever see Thewy, Wernick, Praz, Gosney, Bambos, Lucy, or Ash Hussain giving it the table-banging thing?

Enjoyed 3 big battles with Paul - he really bossed Day 2 at our table for quite some time until he tilted for a few orbits When my AJ beat his AQ after hitting a J on the flop. To his credit he recovered and could have with a few more hands gone on to the Final Table - hope to play with Paul live again

Hi Greg, welcome to blonde.

Paul who?

He must be referring to quiet Irish player, Paul Higgins who made Day 3, but not the final table.

For those that don't know, crosscourtbh is 4th place finisher, Greg Howard.

He's from New Zealand, but don't hold that against him as, from my first encounter, he is one of the nicest guys I've met in poker for a while. Approachable, friendly and always happy to chat.

ps. Greg, could I borrow some money?  :D

Hi Snoopy,

I think it is great what you and Jen do, I havent met Tikay as yet maybe soon if I qualify for EPT Monte Carlo or one of the other events no doubt I will. I am getting closer and closer to making a firmer move into making poker my true path. The bankroll from the Sunday $750k win and the 4th spot money will help (although my wife's nabbed half for looking after the kids all weekend).

What I love about poker is you can act whichever way you want at the table but when you need to wield the axe you can do it mercilessly without people realising what is happening. Lawrence (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=243) Gosney (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=243) knows first hand as he was trying to bait me before I took half his stack away on Day 2 (when he was probably one of the chip leaders).

I was in 2nd position and the raised it up 3 yellow chips (15k) blinds were 1500 3000 I think. Everyone else folded to Lawrence who was in the BB. He called to see the flop. The flop came down something like  4c Qd 4s. He announced All in straightaway doing all the betting for me. I called turning  Ks Kd and he had  Qh  8c

Cant remember the turn and river but neither hand improved immensely then we went for the break. Oucho.

Maybe he saw me as an easy fish target to start putting under some pressure and I am not sure why he thought a raise to 15k was strange. He thought i was weak and bluffing for not raising more modestly or may have put me on  Aspades Kh
perhaps.

Would be interesting to hear back from Lawrence to see what he thought as the only information I gave was the raise. I had gambled my tournament life a few orbits earlier when up against an all in from the pokernightlive presenter. I had  Kd 9d to his  8d 6d and i felt that in a coin flip I would be a possible winner. So I am guessing he thought I was loose which in fact was the only really loose play i made in the first 16 levels of the tournament.

Anyway kids need my attention as I havent seen them for 3 days.

Lawrence is one of the most unpredictable players on the circuit, you never know what he's going to do next, and that was proven when he shoved it in with the Q-8 only to run into Karl's Aces.

However, his has perhaps been successful due to the aggressive image that he conveys. No one wants to mess around him and they know that if they are going to play a pot with him, they will be tested for all their chips.

He makes his opponents feel uncomfortable, and that's quite a tool to possess. Unfortunately, this weekend, his moves appeared a little rash and his timing seemed off... but he'll be back.

The Poker Night Live presenter is James Browning by the way, a Geordie I think, but you can't win 'em all.

Nice job and remember, you wear the trousers in that house... make sure you get your wife's permission first though.  ;hide;
