My advice would be you don't need to be so rigid on the decision, I understand what you mean re going all-in on the next thing, and for sure that seems smart, but say in 6 months you really miss playing and want to go back, then go back. It would be silly not to just because you made this decision now thinking it was best for you. Even though I'm still involved with Poker I don't miss playing at all, and would be shocked if I ever went back to grinding, but who knows, time will tell. I'm sure you have a ton of different options, which is a pretty great spot to start from, so best of luck with the next step Alex.
Regards AI btw, any advice on where to start for someone who's a complete noob? Agree it's going to massively change the world, been thinking about the opportunities there must be in the space, and any input would be great.
Hey ray, thanks for the advice (and others too). RE AI, probably have to learn to code, at least the basics to get you started. I’d suggest python. Take a course on udemy.com ChatGPT will write anything for you but you gotta know the basics to put it all together. Then take a course on AI. Nice one, cheers.

If anyone's a member of Club Wembley or knows someone I could communicate with that is could you reach out via PM or here please, cheers.
Looking for tickets for the Southampton v Man U league cup final? Lol yeah, 1/25 with 365 to qualify for the final, not sure I could take it if we don't get there now. i am thinking of lumping on Newcastle either way way the pain won't be so bad, you could always do the reverse. Some things are more important than money

Thanks Ray, great to hear from you. I remember good times together in Marbella 2011! Do you still play yourself?
I'm not sure whether it's soothing to know it may all be variance, or frightening to know it could go on for a good while yet!
Hence my plan to balance out tournaments this year with as much cash as I can during the tournament stops, and play less side events.
Yeah great times, I caught up with Mitch at EPT London a few months back and couldn't believe how long it had been. I haven't played for 7-8 years now, still involved in poker, but grinding days are definitely behind me. Re variance, yeah sometimes ignorance is bliss I can't get my head around how absurd the variance in live poker is when you consider these numbers, of course, edges are bigger, but it's nothing something I know much about. <3 at tikay

Nice to see you back on the diary Alex, enjoying the read. In my post-bitB days, one of the things I've been doing is providing results and schedule analysis for people from Sharkscope data and regards results analysis I won't do the analysis for someone when they have played less than 5,000 games... in the last two years Of course, we never want to just blame downswings on variance, it rarely ever is just that, but the sample here is certainly too small to make any kind of accurate conclusions. Recently I was doing some group data research a few months ago and even though I've looked at an infinite amount of graphs this one shocked me Click to see full-size image. |
Cliffs for those not so familiar with Sharkscope this is filtered for PKO's on Stars for the last 365 days with over 300 runners using a "playergroup" of 108 players who are mainly top Mid & High Stakes players. This graph is insane! Basically, as a group, they went from crushing at 20%+ total ROI to losing over more than 20,000 games. I think pretty much nobody has a true grasp of how ludicrous variance is in poker, and I certainly include myself in that statement. Using results as a metric of ability is truly flawed, but there are not many better options. One conclusion that we shouldn't take from this though is that "online poker is dead", it's definitely not, and 20%+ total ROI's are still very much achievable with good game selection. Best of luck with everything Alex, keep crushing life mate.
