It's one of the most awesome structures I've played in. Starts at 25/25 so still a fair amount of play when you consider the 1 hour clock.

Must not take gaming table space, must not. yet must get the wsope wtf. I could run a better satellite at my house (without the added juice obv :p )

Very much this, you don't need to start with 50k chips for a comp to have good value/structure.

We just bumped into that little bundle of energy that is James "Flushy" Dempsey at the table. "We're playing a game at our table," he enthused, "First person to win ten hands in a row wins! I managed to get to seven. So close!"

"What do you actually win if you do it?" we asked.

"Just acclaim!" he replied enthusiastically.

I'm bored, may go down and antirail demps

the www.pokernews.com report reads as follows

The 2010 World Series of Poker Europe has kicked off and it did so with a bang today. The £2,650 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em event saw 244 players hit the felt in a jam-packed Casino of the Empire here in London, England. At day's end, a long 10 levels later, 31 player remained.

Plenty of big names hit the floor today to get things off and running for the first European bracelet event of the year, but unfortunately for many of them, they also hit the rail. Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, John Racener, Allen Cunningham and John Juanda were all eliminated it what was a very fast and furious day.

At the top of the leaderboard sits Andrew Pantling and he'll resume play tomorrow as the chip leader. He bagged up 106,100 chips. Hot on his heels are Chris Bjorin with 103,800 and Tai Tran with 103,400. Bjorin is tied for the lead with most WSOP Europe cashes to his name, having four. He's tied with Daniel Negreanu, who isn't here. If Bjorin cashes -- and it looks like he's going to with stack size -- he'll take the lead in that category.

Laak Tight

We just caught the tail end of the action, but it's noteworthy enough to tell you about it. The board showed  Js 9d 7h 7s Aspades, and Vincent Dalet had the action. He made a big overbet by shoving all in for about three times the size of the pot, enough to cover Laak's 67,000 remaining chips. The decision wasn't an easy one for Laak; we'd eventually find out he was in the tank with for several minutes.

Finally,  6c 7c Laak talked himself into a fold, and Dalet couldnt' resist showing the airball  Kc Qs to needle him a little.

Laak is left with those 67,000 chips now, unable to talk himself into a double up.

He clearly has the world's most comfortable bed. Does he even exist before 1pm? I remember he massively overslept for an InsidePoker photoshoot and missed the chance of being on the cover as a result. I think he rocked up about 4pm.

Abrahams bubbles nastily

Noflops on Poker news:

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear, the weather is starting to get cooler in London but for Javed Abrahams, well, he might as well be stranded at the North Pole after this hand. Abrahams fired out 9,600 on the turn of a {5-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} and Ilan Rouah made the call.

The river was the {9-Diamonds} and Abrahams began going for his stack once more.

"Don't," said Rouah, "don't do it!" But Abrahams was unperturbed, he pushed out a bet of what looked like 15,000 and Rouah instantly moved all-in. Abrahams quickly rechecked his cards and made the call turning over {A-Diamonds} {9-Spades} but Rouah was holding the only hand that could beat it, he showed {7-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} for the straight flush to knock Abrahams out and put everyone else into the money.

After Abrahams left, Rouah said, "He could've folded."

"What?" said a slightly bemused John Tabatabai, "This isn't Omaha!"

Nevertheless we're now in the money.

Liv Boeree had fired out a bet on the flop before Lawrie Inman put out a decent raise. Boeree moved all-in before the bet-sizes could be counted and Inman made the call.

Yes, he's going to be incredibly difficult to beat tomorrow, hasn't really made a bad move. If I'm honest I don't know how Willie Tann made it there but he did by his fingernails! Chris Bjorin, can't ever write him off, David Peters seems a good online player and Moorman know him, Ilan Rouah is a superlagtard and Laak would just make a great story!

not sure why you`d do this unless you`re planning on going to the vic anyway or staying near it. the carpark above is pretty much as close to the empire as a cab can drop you anyway

if you're going down for evenings etc you can park up on st james square etc once the bays come out of force (6:30 iirc).

OVERVIEW

Phil Laak has done just about everything in poker.

He's won major tournaments.  He cashed dozens of times.  He played in high-stakes poker games on television and among celebrities.  He's traveled around the world playing poker.  He’s become famous.  He dates a movie star.  He even set a world record for the most consecutive hours spent playing poker (at 115).  It seemed, the one thing Phil Laak had not done was win a WSOP gold bracelet.

Until now.
Laak, a.k.a. the "Unabomber" achieved a monumental breakthrough victory in the ₤2,500 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em championship (Event #1).  This was the first of five events scheduled at this year’s tournament series played at London’s Casino at the Empire.  The colorful Las Vegas resident and poker pro collected ₤170,802 for first place, which is the equivalent of about $270,000 (USD).

Laak overcame long odds and a strong second-place showing by Andrew Pantling, from Malta by way of Toronto, Canada.  Pantling dominated play during most of the three-day tournament.  He seized the chip lead late on Day One.  He continued to hold the lead throughout Day Two and arrived at the final table way ahead in chips by nearly a 2 to 1 margin over his closest rival.  Once the final table began, Pantling was never in serious danger of relinquishing his advantage, that is, until he became embattled in a heads-up duel with Laak.  It was Laak who was the recipient of a fortuitous flurry of good fortune en route to a thrilling first-ever gold bracelet victory.

The win was particularly pleasing to Laak at this moment in history.  Laak finished second five years ago in a WSOP heads-up match against Johnny Chan, who won his then-record tenth gold bracelet.  He came to the final table with his right arm in a cast and sling, the result of a serious accident while riding an ATV last month.  Laak, who was cheered on by his biggest fan -- Hollywood actress and former gold bracelet winner Jennifer Tilly -- seemed far more serious than his usual unpredictable persona.  While he was talking incessantly throughout the finale, the carnival-like antics that usually accompany a high-profile finale were missing on this occasion.  Perhaps that was due to the gravity of the moment and the special significance of finally achieving a long-elusive gold bracelet.

The final table included two former WSOP gold bracelet winners – Chris Bjorin (London, UK) and Willie Tann (London, UK).  Also present were Ilan Rouah (Strasburg, France), Andrew Pantling (Malta), and David Peters (Toledo, OH USA).

The tournament was a complete sell out, attracting a capacity crowd totaling 244 entries.  The prize pool amounted to ₤610,000.  The top 24 finishers collected prize money.  Among those who cashed was John Tabatabai (Cardiff, UK), who was the runner up to Annette Obrestad when she won the inaugural WSOP Europe championship held in 2007.

With yet another impressive third-place finish, two-time former gold bracelet winner Chris Bjorin now has five WSOP Europe cashes and three final table appearances -- the most by any player.  Since this was only the 12th gold bracelet presented in Europe, that means Bjorin has cashed in 42 percent of events and final tabled one quarter of all tournaments played in London.

THE WINNER

The winner of the ₤2,500 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em tournament, WSOP Europe Event #1 is Phil Laak, from Las Vegas, NV (USA).

Laak is a 38-year-old professional poker player.

Laak is pronounced “lock.”

Laak was born in Dublin, Ireland.  But he grew up in the United States and speaks with no detectable Irish accent.

Laak is the youngest of six children.  He speculates that his outgoing personality is largely the result of being the youngest child and striving for attention at an early age.

Laak is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  He earned his degree in electrical engineering.

While in his 20s, Laak held numerous odd jobs – including working as a repo man, dishwasher, and gardener.  He also worked as a stock trader in New York, where he developed a passion for backgammon.  Laak became quite proficient at the game and played competitively for high stakes in private games.  Encouraged by his success in backgammon, Laak gradually developed a fondness for poker.  He played regularly in some of the famous underground clubs in New York City.

Laak previously won two major tournaments, including the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational in 2004 and the William Hill Grand Prix in 2005.  His overall tournament earnings now total about $2.5 million.

Laak appears regularly on televised poker shows.  He has appeared numerous times on GSN’s High Stakes Poker and NBC’s Poker after Dark.

Laak’s girlfriend is Hollywood actress and former Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly, who won a WSOP gold bracelet in the 2005 Ladies World Poker Championship.  She was present at the final table from start to finish and cheered Laak to victory.

Laak’s best friend is former WSOP gold bracelet winner Antonio Esfandiari.  In fact, the two poker pros often work together in seminars and appearances around the country.

Laak collected first-place prize money amounting to ₤170,802, which equals about $270,000 (USD).

With part of the prize money, Laak says he intends to help his mother buy a house in Los Angeles.

With this victory, Laak now has one win, three final table appearances, and seven cashes at the WSOP.  His first WSOP cash took place in 2005.  Laak’s accumulated WSOP career earnings now total $509,529.

Prior to this win, Laak’s most famous WSOP moment came when he played heads-up again poker legend Johnny Chan in the 2005 Pot-Limit Hold’em championship.  The battle was memorable not only because Chan won his then-record tenth gold bracelet that night.  It was perhaps just as remembered for the antics of Laak who entertained a huge audience (and Chan) with a series of bizarre stunts – the likes of which have never been seen before in the game of poker.  Among the many frolics that night, Laak did push ups, yoga, and a game of musical chairs while playing at the final table (Note:  See “Redux” below for the official report from that event).

In July 2010, Laak set a world record for the most consecutive hours spent playing poker.  He played poker for nearly five straight days, clocking in a mind-boggling 116 hours at the table.  Laak’s effort shattered the previous world record which has been set a year earlier by Paul Zimbler at 2009 WSOP Europe at London’s Casino at the Empire.

Laak wore an arm cast at the final table, the result of a fracture suffered last month while riding an ATV.  The accident was serious and potentially very dangerous.  Laak stated afterward that he was lucky not to have landed on his head or neck when dismounting from the motor vehicle, which might have caused a far more serious injury.  While the misfortune was indeed painful and resulted in a broken arm, Laak conceded that in some ways he was quite fortunate not to have endured something far more serious.  In typical Laak fashion and in reverence for this year’s WSOP Europe series played in London, he painted his arm cast with the Union Jack flag, the nation symbol of Great Britain.

Following his victory, instead of posing the gold bracelet in the traditional fashion, Laak jokingly placed the famed poker amulet around his cast and beamed for the cameras.  This occasion is believed to be the first time a player with a broken arm has accepted a WSOP gold bracelet.

Phil Laak became the third American player to win a gold bracelet at WSOP Europe.  The previous American winners were John Juanda (2008) and Barry Shulman (2009).

WINNER QUOTES

On winning his first WSOP gold bracelet:  “The main thing to me is now is that I don’t have to listen to all the ragging I get from everyone when I play.  Eighty percent of the time, it’s all I hear – that I don’t have a gold bracelet yet.  Well, that’s all gone now.”

More on winning a gold bracelet in relation to many of his peers who already have WSOP wins:  “Antonio (Esfandiari) has been riding me for years that he has a bracelet, and I don’t.  Maybe now, he’ll finally shut up (laughing).”

On his heads-up strategy against eventual runner up Andrew Pantling (who mostly dominated the tournament, until the very end):  “He was really, really aggressive.  So, I tried to go along with that and steal a pot occasionally -- because you have to steal from time to time.  I did a lot of check-calling.  No matter what I had – aces, kings, queens or whatever, I would just check-call.  Then, I would check raise him a lot when I figured out he could not have much of a hand, even though I did not always have a big hand myself….it’s much easier to play heads-up with the opponent is predictable and pathetic.  But Andrew was a tough opponent.  He was tough to figure out sometimes.”

On what he thought what the decisive factor that led to victory:  “I have a ton of experience looking at flops.  I wanted to see as many flops as I could, and then go from there.  I wanted to keep the pots small pre-flop and then take it from there.”

On winning the tournament’s final hand when his opponent (Andrew Pantling) was drawing to a huge number of outs, which quite possibly could have reversed the final outcome:  “Hey, I admit it -- I had to dodge the world on that final hand.”

More on the implications of winning a WSOP title:  “I’m a camera whore.  For me, the attention is great.  You win a gold bracelet and you get more attention.  I am the youngest of six kids.  Shrinks have examined this factor.  Statistically, the youngest kids are more loquacious – first to the party and last to leave, you know.”

On winning a WSOP victory versus collecting a big cash prize:  “Ultimately, poker is all about the money.  I’m a dollars and cents guy.  But this is great.”

On the timing of this victory – coming after setting the endurance record and breaking his arm in recent months:  “Whenever you win, it feels like a perfect storm.  You feel like you have a guardian angel protecting you.  Like during my (fractured arm) accident.  The statistics going in from the moment when I was flying through the air going towards the ground were weighed against me.  I finished in like the top five percent when I landed.  It was really bad but could have been much worse.  It was high speed.  I could have smashed my head.  I could have been paralyzed or blind or worse.  But all I got was the broken arm and some bruises.  Sometimes, you just run good.”

On why he plays so much poker:  “I play poker because it is profitable and fun.  But if was only profitable or only fun, then I would not be doing it.  It has to be both.  Like, playing video games is fun.  Making decisions is fun.  Why don’t they have jobs listening to music?  Or eating cheese pizza?  Or watching David Letterman?  If they did, I’d be rich.”

On his next goal:  “I am planning to learn to play the piano.  Before my accident, I did not realize how little I was utilizing my two good arms.  When this (broken) arm comes back, I’m going to buy a portable electric keyboard and am going to learn how to play the blues on the piano.  Every time I hear the blues on the piano, I say – ‘Man, I wish I could do that!’  There’s nothing that is stopping me from doing that, except like five years of practice.  That’s the thing I want to do next, which is learn and study piano.”

THE FINAL TABLE

The final table contained two former WSOP gold bracelet winners – Chris Bjorin (2 wins) and Willie Tann (1 win).

Five different nations were represented at the final table – including England, France, Malta, and the United States.

The runner up was Andrew Pantling, from Malta.  He is originally from Toronto, Ontario (Canada).  He is an executive for an online poker site.  His career tournament winnings now total more than $700,000 – most of which was earned in various European tournaments.  This was Pantling’s second time to cash in a WSOP tournament.

The third-place finisher was Chris Bjorin, from London, UK.  He now has 56 career in-the-money finishes at the WSOP.  This currently ranks as an eighth-place tie (with Chau Giang) on the all-time WSOP cashes list.

Bjorin now has five cashes at WSOP Europe and three final table appearances, in what (to date) have been a total of 12 events played.  This is the most of any player.  This was Bjorin’s highest WSOP Europe finish, so far.

The fourth-place finisher was David Peters, from Toledo, OH (USA).  He previously won a WSOP Circuit event in 2008, held at Caesars Palace Las Vegas,

The fifth-place finisher was Ilan Rouah, from Strasbourg, France.  This marked his first time ever to cash in a WSOP event.

The sixth-place finisher was Willie Tann, from London, UK.  Tann previously won a WSOP title in 2005.

OTHER IN-THE-MONEY FINISHERS

Other former WSOP gold bracelet winners who cashed in this event included – Praz Bansi (11th place).

John Tabatabai, from Cardiff, UK was the seventh-place finisher.  Tabatabai is perhaps best known for finishing second to Annette Obrestad, when she won the inaugural WSOP Europe championship in 2007.

Praz Bansi is one of only three British players with multiple gold bracelets.  He won his second title earlier this year in Las Vegas.  Bansi finished 11th in this event.

Liv Boeree -- known for winning a recent European Poker Tour (EPT) championship in San Remo, Italy -- cashed in this event.  Her 19th-place finish was her highest at the WSOP, to date.

Five of this year’s WSOP November Nine entered this tournament.  They were – Michael Mizrachi, John Dolan, Matt Jarvis, Filippo Candio, and John Racener.
There was no defending champion from 2009, since this was the first time a Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em tournament has been played at WSOP Europe.

ODDS AND ENDS

The tournament was a complete sell out.  Every table and seat was filled to capacity.  The large turnout required the implementation of an alternate system.  About two down alternates were seated as players were eliminated.  All alternates were sat within 80 minutes of the start of the tournament.

This is the first of five events on the 2010 WSOP Europe schedule.  It is the 58th gold bracelet event played in 2010, when combined with the 57 events which took place in Las Vegas a few months ago.

This is the 886th gold bracelet event in World Series of Poker history. Note: This figure includes every official WSOP event played, including tournaments during the early years when there were no actual gold bracelets awarded.  It also includes the 12 gold bracelets awarded at WSOP Europe, to date.

THE TOURNAMENT

The ₤2,500 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em tournament attracted 244 entries.  The total prize pool amounted to ₤610,000.  The top 24 finishers collected prize money.

The chip leader at the end of Day One was Andrew Pantling.

The chip leader coming into the final table was Andrew Pantling.  He ended up finishing second.

Phil Laak was ranked third in chips at the start of play on Day Three and gradually built up his stack.  Once heads-up play began, he gained momentum and gradually wore down his opponent by winning a majority of the small-to medium-sized pots that were contested.

When heads-up play began, Pantling and Laak were very close in chips.  They battled heads-up for nearly two hours.

The final hand of the tournament came when Laak was dealt playing card: Kd playing card: 5c.  Pantling was dealt playing card: Ah playing card: 9h.  The flop came playing card: 7h playing card: 4h playing card: 4c, giving Pantling the decisive lead and a huge number of outs to improve by making a flush or a pair.  But the playing card: 5d on the turn was the perfect card for Laak, who suddenly reversed things and had the lead.  Still, Pantling had many outs drawing to a heart, a nine, or an ace.  As the huge crowed swelled towards the rail, the final fateful card was dealt.  It was the playing card: Qc, a beautiful blank to the eyes of Laak and his many fans in the audience.  It also meant defeat for Pantling, who played marvelously over three days.  Laak had finally earned an elusive WSOP gold bracelet victory.

The tournament officially began on Tuesday, September 14th at 12:15 pm.  The tournament officially ended on Thursday, September 16th at 8:00 pm (London time).

MORE ABOUT WSOP EUROPE

This is the fourth year of WSOP Europe.  All events have been played at Casino at the Empire, located in Leicester Square in Central London.  There have now been 12 gold bracelet events held in the U.K.  Four more events are scheduled this year.

Casino at the Empire hosts a poker room.  However, due to the size of the WSOP, the tournament area is expanded to include about half of the casino floor space.  There are 34 active poker tables available for use at WSOP Europe.

Phil Laak has done just about everything in poker.

He's won major tournaments.  He cashed numerous times.  He played in high-stakes games on television.  He's traveled around the world playing.  He become famous.  He dates a moviestar.  He's even set a world record for the most consecutive hours spent playing poker (115).  The one thing Phil Laak had not done, was to win a WSOP gold bracelet.

Until now.

Laak, a.k.a. the "Unabomber" achieved a breakthrough victory in the ₤2,500 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em championship (Event #1), which is the first of five events scheduled at this year’s tournament series played at London’s Casino at the Empire.  The Las Vegas resident and poker pro collected ₤170,802 for first place, which is the equivalent of about $270,000 (USD).

Laak overcame a strong showing by Andrew Pantling, from Malta by way of Toronto, Canada.  Pantling dominated play during most of the three-day tournament.  He seized the chip lead late on Day One.  He continued to hold the lead throughout Day Two and arrived at the final table way ahead in chips by nearly a 2 to 1 margin over his closest rival.  Once the final table began, Pantling was never in serious danger of relinquishing his advantage until he became embattled in a heads-up duel with Laak.  It was Laak who was the recipent of a fortuitous flurry of good fortune en route to a thrilling first-ever gold bracelet victory.

The win was particularly pleasing to Laak at this moment, given his history.  Laak finished second five years ago in a heads-up match against Johnny Chan when he won his then-record tenth gold bracelet.  He came to the final table with his right arm in a cast and sling, the result of a serious accident on an ATV last month.  Laak, who was cheered on to victory by his biggest fan -- Hollywood actress and former gold bracelet winner Jennifer Tilly -- seemed far more serious than his usual unpredicatable persona.  While he talked throughout the finale, wild antics that usually accompany a high-profile finale were missing.

The final table included two former WSOP gold bracelet winners – Chris Bjorin (London, UK) and Willie Tann (London, UK).  Also present were Rouah Ilan (Strasburg, France), Andrew Pantling (Malta), and David Peters (Toledo, OH USA).

£5k PLO

120 began, 49 remain

Day One Concludes

After eight tough levels of Pot Limit Omaha today, over half the field disappeared in a cloud of chips and four-card aggression. Three rebuy lammers worth 4k each augmented the 3,000 starting stacks, but right from the start there was plenty of action as this tough field attacked itself, players like Tom Dwan, Marty Smyth and Annette Obrestad busting in the earlier segments while Samuel Stein rose to the top of the pile around half way through the day and stayed there until the chips were bagged for the night. 112,600 is the stack to measure against tomorrow when players return to play down to a final table - up challenging the lead, however, are Karl Mahrenholz and Jeff Madsen, among others. Please see the Chip Counts tab for full counts of all remaining players.

The best of the traditionally more experienced European Omaha practitioners like Michel Abecassis, Rory Matthews, John Kabbaj, Willie Tann and Jeff Kimber will tomorrow face off against the American vanguard and the young players looking to add some WSOPE jewellery to their wrists this week. Phil Laak, too, bounced straight from his first event bracelet win into this £5k event - and is still there at the end of play!

Satellited into the £1000 NL.........first ever WSOP event wiiii

Can't say I'm over enthusiastic over 3000 starting chips, but they say the event plays well deeper in , so lets hope  :)

It's one of the most awesome structures I've played in. Starts at 25/25 so still a fair amount of play when you consider the 1 hour clock.

Are you sure about that?  The structure PDF says level 1 is 25/50

It said that last year too but it definitely started at 25/25.

yes good to see today it is 25/25,.....strange they can't get the PDF info right!?

Day Two Concludes: Racener Leads Final Two Tables

Today was supposed to be a story about two bubbles; the money bubble and the final table bubble. We can forget about the second bubble as that is still a distant dream to be worried about in the future, it's the first bubble that dominated today's play. It took around four hours of play to go from 19 players down to 18 players and the extremely unfortunate soul finishing in 19th was John Kabbaj. He got it in very good against chip leader John Racener but the latter has been running very good this year and that form continued.

Racener navigated the last level to remain in the lead with 276,000 chips. The chasing pack include Karl Mahrenholz (211,000) and 6-max finalist Willie Tann (154,000) and holding up the rear is Sean Dempsey (36,500).

It was many moons ago (or so it seems like) that 49 players returned for Day Two aiming to make the money and then on to the final table. Daniel Tafur was the first to leave and not long after him were Full Tilt Pros Vitaly Lunkin and Raul Paez. Other team members of theirs to fare better but also fail to cash include Ross Boatman, Roberto Romanello, Paul Zimbler and Scott Fischman. Other big names to leave without a payday were Hoyt Corkins, Frank Kassela, Chad Brown, Toby Lewis, Phil Laak and Barry Greenstein.

15 players made it through the day and they will all return at 3pm (BST) tomorrow where they will play all the way down to a winner who will receive a coveted gold and diamond bracelet, the second to be handed out at this year's WSOPE festival. The action is sure to be faster paced tomorrow so please join us back here then to see how it pans out. Our final words come from the wise mouth of Willie Tann: "It's been a hard day's night!"

Day1a of the £1,000 NLHE

28 of 202 made it through

Top Chip Counts
1    Jeppe Bisgaard    49,000
2    Anton Wigg    45,600
3    Martin Hansen    41,000
4    Xiang Tan    35,600
5    Keith Hawkins    27,800
6    Stephan Nitschke    27,400
7    Stephen Broomfield    26,000
8    Dominic Wells    24,700

9    Kaveh Payman    24,200
10    James Tomlin    23,900

End of Day 1a

With 28 players, the tournament staff have decided to finish for the day at the end of this level, one hour earlier than originally planned. The remaining players are currently coloring up some of the chips as otherwise there will not be enough green 25 chips to go around for Days 1b and 1c.

The reigning champion of this event, JP Kelly made a late surge towards the end of the day, and he has made it through as one of the few survivors from the 202 players that entered today. Other players who made it through include Keith "The Camel" Hawkins, EPT Copenhagen winner Anton Wigg, and November Niner Matthew Jarvis. The chip leader at the end of the day, however, is Jeppe Bisgaard with 49,000 chips.

Today's field included a swarm of prior bracelet winners including Marty Smyth, Lawrence Gosney, Antonio Esfandiari, John Juanda, James Dempsey, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Jason Mercier. They're just spectators tonight, though, as nary a one of that list were able to make it through the day.

Tomorrow, we're expecting an even bigger field given that it is the weekend; with Sunday's Day 1c additions, we could even see a new record set for the biggest field in a major UK tournament.

Day 1b will start on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. local time.

Jeffrey Lisandro Wins Event #2: £5,250 Pot-Limit Omaha (£159,514)

Jeffrey Lisandro is a man who really needs no introduction, but in case you've been living under a rock where there is no poker coverage for the past few years, Mr. Lisandro will tonight be tossing his fifth WSOP bracelet in the pile. This is, though, his first European WSOP bracelet, and also his first in Omaha - his previous four were all in stud poker and were all picked up in Vegas, including three in one Series which earned him the title of 2009 WSOP Player of the Year.

Lisandro battled through a very small but unbelievably high-class field, and although he had to outdraw aces right at the end to take it down, that was no small achievement. Coming back with 15 players today instead of the scheduled nine looked as though it might make for a very late night, but in the event the high-variance nature of Omaha and the aggressiveness of the players made up for the extra numbers, and Lisandro will still get to enjoy some of London's nightlife before he returns to his hotel room to reflect on a job well done.

In a fast-paced final where almost every player took at least one turn at being chip leader, it could have gone anyone's way. Lisandro seems to have a magic touch at these things, though, and as he poses for his winner's photos (although he did refuse to do any interviews) he looks extremely comfortable and relaxed. As though he could get used to this sort of thing.

NoFlopsHomer reports for PN

And that's a wrap, at least for one more day. Tomorrow will see 1c, the final start day for this event and an expected 200 more players though perhaps an increase in the average age as it's Sunday and all the online players may well be preferring 24 tables online to just the single one live. Or maybe they'll assume everyone else is thinking that and actually turn up for tomorrow instead, we won't find out until then.

The chip leader at the end of the day is Wesley Pantling with 56,200 after a rollercoaster day. Some of the biggest names were involved today including both Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan, the former had a great start and led for an early part of the day before eventually running an overpair into flopped top two pair. Dwan also built a stack albeit more slowly, eventually losing with queens in a big flip to Pantling's big slick.

They weren't the only big name casualties on this day as Arnaud Mattern, Phil Hellmuth, Vitaly Lunkin, Huck Seed and Barry Greenstein were all among the hundred or so players who failed to make it through the day.

Those who did however, include Andrew Lichtenberger, EPT Vilamoura winner Toby Lewis and Scott Fischman who'll be hoping to make it to the final table on Tuesday.

Event 3 £1,000 NLHE

Day 1c

from Poker News

f you want fast and furious action with a plethora of bust-outs then the ₤1k event is the one for you. For a third day in a row it has been bust-out after bust-out. It’s what happens when you only start with 3,000 chips as you’re forced to take your chances when you have them. The player who took those chances the best was Leonard Truche who finished on 42,400 after winning a flip late on versus Kumal Choraria. He’s closely followed by Song Lee(40,300), Ting He(40,100) and Adam Fradgley (40,100).

185 players stumped up ₤1,000 to enter Day 1c of this event and they where whittled down to just four tables and 25 players. Those who tried their best, but failed, to be part of the gang coming back tomorrow were Andy Bloch, Michael Mizrachi, Jeff Madsen, Neil Channing, John Racener, James Akenhead, Dave Ulliot, Phil Laak, Justin Smith and Erik Seidel.

Other players happy to be part of the gang are Maria Demetriou, Richard Hawes, Richard Allen and Allen Kessler. None of them have a big stacks but for now they are happy to be through. The gang will consist of 80 tomorrow but only 54 of those will be getting paid. Play starts at 2pm BST

It's a disaster of epic proportions for Andrew Lichtenberger, so much so that Michael Bay could make a film about it.

Dean Sanders motioned us to his table where Lichtenberger had got all in with {K-} {K-} against Paul Pitchford's {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}. The board came {6-Hearts} {2-Spades} {A-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} and a monster 100,000+ chip pot went the way of Pitchford.

It's probably not the way Lichtenberger wanted to spend his birthday.

now cl, gl Paul

Here is the sickest news. If JP wins this, he becomes the youngest player ever to win 3 bracelets, beating Phil Ivey. And also, he'd be the first player to defend successfully a NLHE bracelet since Johnny Chan in '87 and '88.

So no pressure then.

Unlucky Keith.

Best wishes for plenty of run-good to both JP - what an awesome win that would be - & Paul Pitchford, who won his seat to this by being the APAT "Best All-Round Player of the WCOAP" - which, incredibly, he has achieved 2 years running.

from Betfair

It was a great night for Betfair Poker players at the World Series of Poker last night as two of our players made it deep into the money of Event #3 the £1,075 No-limit Hold'em Event and two even went as far as reaching the final table!

Over the course of three Day 1's, 582 players began with 3,000 chips and dreams of becoming a WSOP bracelet holder. By the time Day 2 had started only 80 of those had those dreams in tact and as I write this the huge field has been whittled down to the final table of nine.

Of the 80 who started the day only 56 were paid, the last not to receive any money was the unfortunate Song Lee. Some well-known names made it to the money including November Nine member Matthew Jarvis (40th place), Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler (38), Stephen "Stevie444" Chidwick (24) and Keith "The Camel" Hawkins (15).

As the field gradually shrunk, it looked as if the final table would be the home to four Betfair Poker qualifiers but eventually the luck ran out for two of them. Firstly, with blinds at 2,000/4,000 with a 500 running ante, James Tomlin decided to move all-in for his last 46,600 chips. Eventually Mehdi Senhaji made the call and showed a pair of black nines whilst Tomlin sheepishly turned over 8d3c. The flop of 5s-8h-2c gave Tomlin hope but the Jh turn and 6c river took it away and the man known as "jimmyfing" on the Betfair Poker tables headed to the rail in a respectable 19th place.

He was joined some time later by another of the Betfair Poker players, Stephen "step31" Broomfield. Kaveh Payman made it 14,500 to play and after finding the beautiful looking AdKd staring back at him Broomfield announced he was all-in. This would usually be enough to scoop the pot but JP Kelly woke up in the small blind with KsKh and re-shoved all-in, leaving him heads-up against Broomfield's Big Slick. The final board ran out 9d-2s-2c-9c-7d and with it Kelly won the hand and sent Broomfield to the rail in 12th place for £8,317. Ever so close to a WSOPE final table, congratulations "step31."

Once play had gone ten handed the players were put on a break and drawn on one unofficial final table. The very first hand after returning from the brief pause saw ten become the final nine with the elimination of Stephan Nitschke. The action folded around to Kaveh Payman in the small blind, who raised enough to put Nitschke all-in. He made the call and turned over KhJh in front but essentially flipping with the QsTd of Payman. The flop of Js-Tc-5d hit both players but the Th on the turn completely smashed into Payman's hand, giving him trip tens. The 9s on the river completed the hand and the final table of nine was set.

When play resumes at 1400 UK time today all eyes will be on the man who is currently third in chips, JP Kelly, as he has the chance to become the youngest-ever triple bracelet winner, a record he will win from Phil Ivey! He will also become only the fifth man in history to defend his title and win the same Hold'em event in back-to-back years, putting him alongside greats such as Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth.

That said, my eyes will be firmly on Paul Ian "paulpitch" Pitchford and Jeppe "MissilBis" Bisgaard who both qualified for this event through Betfair Poker and have made the final table. Pitchford comes in eighth in chips with a 77,000 stack whilst Bisgaard is in better shape with 171,000 chips, enough for fourth place currently.

Each player is guaranteed a £10,633 payday, with the winner taking home a piece of poker's most sought after jewellery and £133,857 in prize money.

Seating allocation for the final table:

Seat 1 - Karim Jomeem - 109,000
Seat 2 - Scott Shelley - 148,000
Seat 3 - Nicky Katz - 150,000
Seat 4 - Paul Ian Pitchford - 77,000

Seat 5 - Jeppe Bisgaard - 171,000
Seat 6 - Mehdi Senhaji - 369,000
Seat 7 - Kaveh Payman - 434,000
Seat 8 - JP kelly - 242,000
Seat 9 - Jack Lyman - 55,000

JP Kelly is poised to make history. Not only is he the defending champion in this event which could see him pull off one of the rarest doubles you’ll see in poker (Only four other people have done it in hold’em), he is also in with a shot at being the youngest triple bracelet winner ever at 24.

Good luck to jp, it will an unbelievable achievement if he can take it down.....i would like to see the stats on the other guys who defended a title or won 3 bracelets, how many wsop events did they play before they won 3, i don't know but my guess would be far more than jp has.

ps where's the best place for updates????

JP was gutted but got over it fairly quick tbh. Speaks volumes though that he's there being compared to Chan and Ivey tbh and I wouldn't back against him binking a third by this time next year. If you could ever get lessons then him, Jake, Toby, Flushy, Moorman and the rest are the best people to possibly learn from and Blonde is very lucky in this respect.

2010 WSOPE Event #3, Day 3: Shelley Halts Kelly's Title Defense Run and Wins First Bracelet!

All eyes were on JP Kelly as he returned to the final table on Tuesday afternoon in London for Event #3: £1,075 No-Limit Hold'em of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe. Yes, Kelly was in contention to win his third bracelet, a prize that was up for grabs for all eight of his opponents, as well, but Kelly had much more on the line.

You see, last year Kelly won this very same event. He successfully maneuvered his way back to the final table in his title defense, but would he be able to close it out? If the answer turned out to be yes, Kelly would become the first player since Phil Hellmuth to win the same Hold’em bracelet event in back-to-back years. On top of that, Kelly would become the first player with two WSOP Europe bracelets. As if that wasn’t enough of a story, Kelly was also in line to smash Phil Ivey’s record as the youngest player to win three gold bracelets.

The final table started off rather normal, as Kelly picked off one of the short-stacks early on. Nicky Katz was sent to the rail first on the day after his top pair failed to hold up against Kelly’s double gutshot. Right from the get go things looked like it just may be Kelly’s day to shine.

After a little while went by without anyone being eliminated, Scott Shelley doubled in amazing fashion. After Karim Jomeen raised the button, Shelley three-bet shoved from the small blind, but Jomeen was holding two aces and had Shelley in bad shape. Fortunately for Shelley, his {7-Spades}{4-Clubs} got there after spiking trips on the turn and crushed Jomeen to just a few thousand chips. Jomeen was then eliminated shortly thereafter in eighth place.

It wasn’t long after that before we saw Kelly double after flopping a set of eights against Jack Lyman. Lyman’s flush draw failed to get there and he handed Kelly the chip lead. This is when things really started to look good for Kelly. As if he was really going to do it after all.

The players took a one-hour dinner break and upon returning, four players were sent packing within the hour. Lyman hit the rail in seventh, Mehdi Senhaji lost a flip to go out in sixth, start-of-the-day chip leader Kaveh Payman busted in fifth and then Paul Pitchford exited in fourth. The stage was then set for a three-handed battle between the defending champion Kelly, Shelley and Jeppe Bisgaard.

Kelly took the chip lead rather early in three-handed play before he eliminated Bisgaard in third place to get heads up with Shelley. Bisgaard limp-shoved the button over a raise from Kelly out of the small blind. Kelly called it off and was dominating Bisgaard’s {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} with his {A-Spades}{9-Spades}. Kelly was able to dodge a flush draw that Bisgaard picked up and was left with a chip lead of about 300,000 over his heads-up opponent Shelley.

At the beginning of the match, things went back and forth between the two until the first big pot came up. Shelley was able to rake in the largest pot of heads-up play after he picked off a bluff from Kelly while holding two kings. It wasn’t as easy a call as one would imagine. The final board read {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and Shelley held pocket kings without a heart. Winning that pot put Shelley at over a 2:1 chip advantage, making things looking not so good for Kelly.

Just as things weren’t looking so good for Kelly though, he was able to pull back into the lead thanks to a big double up holding {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} versus Shelley’s {K-Spades}{2-Spades}. Kelly was able to fade Shelley’s outs and retook the chip lead as once again the momentum changed sides in the match.

Just when Kelly doubled up and seemed to have everything going his way once again, Shelley buckled down and began pressuring Kelly in some big pots. Soon, Shelley was back in the lead and then the final hand came up.

After Shelley raised from the button, Kelly moved all-in. Shelley met him with a call and tabled a pair of threes. Kelly held the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and off to the races they went with a bracelet waiting at the finish line. The flop rolled out {8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades} and the noise from Shelley’s fans was deafening as they roared when they saw Shelley had hit a powerful set of threes. Runner-runner wasn’t in the cards this time around after the {7-Hearts} fell on the turn to leave Kelly drawing dead. The river card was the {10-Diamonds} and it officially ended the match.

Just a few days ago, Shelley was just another poker player with a dream in the field of 582 entrants. He successfully maneuvered his way to the final table and from there got lucky when he needed to and played great when it really mattered.

When Shelley got heads up with the defending champion JP Kelly, the room was literally cut in half between the two sets of railbirds. Almost everyone was anxiously waiting to see if Kelly could do the unthinkable: smash Phil Ivey's record of youngest player to win three bracelets, become the first player with two WSOP Europe bracelets and be the first player to win the same bracelet event in back-to-back years in Hold'em since Phil Hellmuth did it in the 1990s. Well, that was a great story and all, but it's going to have to wait until another time for the media to be able to put it in print.

Kelly didn't go home empty handed though; he won a nice payday worth £82,854. Shelley took home the better of the lot with £133,857 going in his pocket and the coveted WSOP gold bracelet for his wrist. For Kelly, he was well aware of the records he was trying to break and the history he was trying to rewrite. He's now left with the bitter taste of defeat in his mouth after coming oh so close.

Place   Player   Prize
1   Scott Shelley   £133,857
2   JP Kelly   £82,854

Tournament organizers were chatting yesterday about their worry over the forthcoming £10,350 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller Heads-Up. Sixty-four players was the number they were hoping for, but some pessimistic voices were saying it was more likely to be somewhere in the mid-fifties. Still not a bad turnout, though, for a high buy-in high-variance tournament in its inaugural year. Move forward one day and two rounds of the tournament later and those worries are a distant memory. A fairly staggering 103 players signed up to create a prize pool in excess of £1 million, guaranteeing a first prize of £288,409. Thirty-two players will return tomorrow when three more rounds are likely to be played. The first round (third of the tournament) will be a tense affair as it’s the bubble round. The loser gets nothing; the winner gets a minimum of £22,847.

Phil Ivey raced through his two matches, dispatching two very dangerous opponents in Sam Trickett and Erik Sagstrom. His Team Full Tilt colleague Chris Ferguson was even quicker through his two matches but without a happy ending. His day started well with a bye but he lasted less than ten hands against Andrew Feldman when his ace-king couldn’t catch-up with the Brit’s pocket queens. For such a high-buy-in event, it was surprising to see how quickly most of the matches ended. There was one player happy to take his time and ended up in the last match in both rounds. Mike Matusow took about two-and-a-half hours to dispatch Sam Stein in round one and then over three hours to lose to Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies in round two. Other Team Full Tilt members to fall today included Andy Bloch (round one), Erik Seidel (round one), Ferguson (as we mentioned in round two), Tom Dwan (round two) and John Juanda (round two).

Neil Channing won both his matches to set up an intriguing all-England tie with young online phenomenon Chris Moorman who won through two rounds, as well. Huck Seed won through and will have to use all his TOC experience to navigate his way past Sahamies in round three. A host of other names bye’d and battled their way through including Gus Hansen, Ram Vaswani, Howard Lederer, Scott Fischman, Daniel Negreanu, Shawn Buchanan and Yevgeniy Timoshenko.

Those who we loved but lost today included Vanessa Rousso, Jake Cody, Jason Mercier (played with no sleep after taking down a WCOOP a few hours earlier), Andrew Litchenberger, Praz Bansi, Barny Boatman, Carlos Mortensen, Antonio Esfandiari, Jeff Lisandro, Greg Mueller, Scott Seiver and Phil Hellmuth.

The big-name players crammed into this small space have shown what a star-studded field this was with very little value in terms of an edge in skill. All this means that taking down this title will be worth huge bragging rights in the poker community. If there’s ever been a harder heads-up field to navigate, we'd sure like to see it.

The poker resumes at 3:00 p.m. local time

Nice one JP, toasty indeed if you are so young & gifted, what a life he has ahead of him if he can keep on the reasonably straight & narrow.

Even nicer for Pitchie, huge congrats to him from all at APAT, our Sponsors must be beaming, too, that's serious APAT-style added value. He never even had to win a Tourney to bink the Prize, though being the APAT POTY in the WCOAP (so many initials!) in successive years says much about his game.

WSOP-E, despite early doubts, continues to gain momentum & credibility.

WSOP-E, despite early doubts, continues to gain momentum & credibility.

Dealers and floorstaff cannot be faulted.

But please please please move it away from the hellhole of the Empire. Worst place in London to play poker.

Food awful, no space, noisym temp varies wildly between freezing and blood boiling hot, tolilets digusting (except a secret one I've found which I'm telling noone about.).

And you have to pay £2.50 for a bowl of peanuts.

Just move it to a big hotel please.

Yes, I might have wisely added "if only it were at a decent Venue". It really is so very wrong for such an Event, but we have to face reality, Harrahs own the WSOP, & LCI, who in turn own The Empire. To a degree, we cannot expect it to be anywhere EXCEPT a Harrahs/LCI Venue.

The fact is, players moan about venues, & stolen Reg Fees (I do not refer to WSOP-E!), & this & that, sometimes the other, too, but it does not deter them from playing the Events. And as long as they do, then nothing will change.

Give players the best venue on earth, & great value, added value even, & there will still be complaints. It's the nature of things.

Notwithstanding all that, the WSOP-E IS gaining credibility & momentum, & I hope it continues so to do. Numbers this year were once again very good - the High-Roller numbers were staggering given the venue! - but it makes the point. The players are turning up in good numbers, so the Venue is fit for purpose.

When all is said & done, a London WSOP-E is better than a Paris (or Barca, or wherever) based WSOP-E, surely?  That's the reality, & I want it to stay in the UK.

You'd think that people would turn up on time for the bubble round in a £10,000 tournament - but there's always someone whose alarm fails to go off, isn't there?

Two lucky gentlemen who get to steal their absent opponent's blinds exactly once a minute are Neil Channing who is waiting for the absent Chris Moorman, and Huck Seed, who is meant to be playing Ilari Sahamies right now.

Its pretty inexcusable that Moorman can be late for two day twos of bracelet events where he was in great shape - was he playing the WCOOPs last night?

Guy at the wsop heads up this year turned up over an hour late for his match.

On arriving, when he found out the reason he was late his opponent raised blind the amount he'd won by anteing the other guy away and then folded to his shove without ever looking at his cards.

The most spectacular piece of good sportsmanship I've ever seen at a poker table.

Huck Seed has taken care of Ilari Sahamies after a pre-flop raising war saw them all-in. Sahamies opened with a raise and then moved all-in for 85,400 when Seed three-bet him. Seed asked for a count but said he was probably going to call. He got the count and called saying he was gambling.

Sahamies:

Seed:

Seed was in way better shape than he thought and stayed there through the  board.

Also PTR doesnt track split pots or run it twice pots

HSDB is a lot better way to track HSP imo and they have him as winning $5.8m since the start of 2008

Main Event preview from Pokernews

Welcome to the start of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event! With all of the preliminary events behind us, minus the final day of the £10,350 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller Heads-Up, this is where is all counts.

Last year's champion was Barry Shulman and, although we haven't seen him here in London just yet, he should be on hand to defend his title as most champions are. The runner up was none other than Daniel Negreanu and we all know he's already made the trip having cashed in the Heads-Up event.

What's interesting is that Negreanu's cash in that event puts him at a total of five WSOP Europe cashes in all. Coming into this year's Series in London, he was tied with Chris Bjorin for the most WSOP Europe cashes at four. Bjorin finished in the money in to events and final tabled them both to give him six overall cashes. Negreanu will now need to cash in the Main Event here without Bjorin cashing to tie him for the number one spot once again. For Bjorin, making those two final tables put him ahead of Howard Lederer for the most WSOP Europe final tables. Lederer came into 2010 with three and Bjorin two. Bjorin has already made two this year and now has a total of four. Yeah, we'd say he does well in London.

When it comes to bracelet bets, Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey take the cake. Both of these players have them and this is the last chance for 2010 to claim a bracelet. Ivey came close to another one in the Heads-Up, but went down to Gus Hansen last night after making the final 16. Dwan may have a little bit more on the line than Ivey this year, but it hasn't helped his performances out much. Dwan has yet to even hit the money in an event this year, but that's probably because he's playing to win much more than simply reach the money. It'll be interesting to see if these two waited until the Main Event to collect on their bets.

Along with Ivey, Dwan, Negreanu, Lederer, Hansen and all of the other big names that are here in London, plenty more will be rolling in today and tomorrow to fire it up in the Main Event. Lots of players opted to stop at the World Poker Tour's Borgata event over in the States and are now making their way across the pond to hit up this premier event. Heck, it's going to have a massive prize pool and will be the last chance to win a gold bracelet for 2010.

WSOP-E stats since 2007

Most Cashes

T-1   Chris Bjorin   4
T-1   Daniel Negreanu   4
T-3   Ian Frazer   3
T-3   Chris “Jesus” Ferguson   3
T-3   John Juanda   3
T-3   Howard Lederer   3
T-3   Sampo Löppönen 3
T-3   Andy Bloch   3

Out of this group, only two players have cashed all three years: Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and John Juanda. Ferguson has done pretty well for himself during the series -- cashing three times and making two final tables -- but he hasn’t quite been able to step into the winner’s circle yet in London. Juanda won the WSOP Europe Main Event in 2008 when he bested a field of 362 players to take home £868,800. Howard Lederer came even closer than Ferguson, but fell short every time. Lederer is three-for-three on making the final table when cashing, but hasn’t been able to get a win. One of the final tables, he finished in ninth place, but the other two were second- and third-place finishes to make his defeat that much worse. Despite both of their very close calls, Ferguson and Lederer appear to be two players to bet on every year at the WSOP Europe -- and they’re not even at the top of the list.

Daniel Negreanu and Chris Bjorin are tied with the most cashes, each hitting the money part of an event four times. Negreanu didn’t do anything in 2007, but he has final-tabled the Main Event in London for the past two years, finishing fifth in 2008 and runner-up to Barry Shulman in 2009. Bjorin cashed three times and made two final tables in 2009, one of which was the Main Event where he took sixth place. These are the two players who seem to have the London soil on lockdown so look out for them again this year.

Most Final Tables

Howard Lederer   3

Top 5 Money Earners

1   Annette Obrestad£1,000,000
2   John Juanda   £877,378
3   Barry Shulman   £801,603
4   Daniel Negreanu   £722,594
5   John Tabatabai   £570,150

Annette Obrestad won the inaugural WSOP Europe Main Event for £1,000,000, which puts her at the top of the list. Even though many people think of Obrestad when they first heard the words “World Series of Poker Europe,” her Main Event win in 2007 is her only cash at the WSOP Europe. Shulman and John Tabatabai also only have one cash each, but both still make it into the top five.

You’ll notice that there’s no Phil Ivey, Jeffrey Lisandro, Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan, Roland de Wolfe or many other big names mentioned so far. That brings us to our next list, which is the one of Underachieving Heavy Hitters. Take a look at this list and see how some of the biggest names in poker have fared in London over the past three years. The list is in no particular order.

Underachieving Heavy Hitters

Phil Ivey   1 final table - £13,750
Jeffrey Lisandro   1 final table - £11,000
Gus Hansen   1 cash - £41,630
Phil Hellmuth   1 cash - £6,188
Tom Dwan   1 cash - £12,713
Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott   1 cash - £21,142
David Williams   1 cash - £4,812
Brandon Cantu   1 cash - £4,305
Allen Cunningham   1 cash - £14,438
Josh Arieh   1 cash - £25,340
Jani Sointula   1 cash - £25,340
Erik Seidel   1 cash - £28,960
Mike Matusow   1 cash - £36,200
Patrik Antonius   1 cash - £27,150
Roland de Wolfe   1 cash - £11,700
Ted Lawson   1 cash - £11,700
John Duthie   1 cash - £10,140
Padraig Parkinson   1 cash - £16,500
Vialy Lunkin   1 cash - £5,660
Ted Forrest   1 cash - £8,580
Erick Lindgren   1 cash - £30,770

Am railing the final table. Gus, as he did in the semi, is limping every button & then peeling the vast majority of 3 bets & then winning most pots post. It also helps that he's made a few boats. Queso is talking thru strategy with stevie444 during the break.

Think you would have to be a saint not to be unsettled after what happened to Gus in the last 30 minutes

A7  < K9 rivered by a 4 four outer
KK < AQ all in pre
QQ < 99 all in pre

That treble is about 530/1.

Pretty ridiculous.

Make more sense to price up the who will turn up at noon market.

Dino says they are coming back at noon to play the main event and taking it from there. They might play tomorrow if they bust or later in the week. That's from my man on the spot at 4am, not the WSOP so don't take it as gospel.

and the Poker News report of the day

he first day of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event is in the books. After registration closed for the day, 137 players had entered Day 1a. That number is slightly down from the 156 that showed up for the first flight last year, but there's always tomorrow and a whole slew of players will be showing up. At the end of the night, there were 78 surviving players, and Frenchman Nicolas Levi bagged up the most chips with 153,850.

The day was packed full of excitement including the famous entrance of Mr. Phil Hellmuth. He showed up plenty late as always, followed by a brass marching band and models posed as Lady Gaga. "Poker Face" blasted as he made his way into the casino, but he didn't last too long, hitting the rail before day's end.

Joining him on the rail were 2010 WSOP cash leader Allen Kessler, Vanessa Selbst, Andy Bloch, Chad Brown, Scott Seiver and James Dempsey. November Niners Jonathan Duhamel and Joseph Cheong were also eliminated as was the first ever WSOP Europe Main Event champion Annette Obrestad.

There's plenty of big names still in the field who made it to Day 2 including Huck Seed, Allen Cunningham, Jason Mercier, Faraz Jaka, Nick Schulman, Eugene Katchalov and Arnaud Mattern.

and the PN report on the HU marathon

So, after 12 long hours, we have failed to find a winner.

Gus Hansen and Jim Collopy's first match of the final was a swift and largely one-sided affair for Hansen, and for a while it looked as though the second one was going to go his way too. But Collopy is good at working his way back from a short stack - he did it earlier today in his semi final against Ram Vaswani as well - and his patience paid off in the shape of a second shot at this bracelet.

Nobody expected today to take quite so long, and so tomorrow's final final, as it were, is still an unknown quantity. Both players want to play the Main Event, so the plan at the moment is for everyone to make it to the casino for noon, and then they'll figure it out as they go along.

Though it's been long, it hasn't had a moment of dullness

Jen Mason's report from yesterday

209 players stumped up the £10,000, won a satellite, or sold bits and pieces of themselves until entry became realistic in order to compete in the second and final entry day into the 2010 WSOPE Main Event. This made it a record-breaker, and is going to provide a very healthy prizepool for those who make it even further; this is a six-day event and definitely falls in the 'marathon' rather than 'sprint' category.

The field was liberally scattered through with TV and internet-gracing faces, from Tom Dwan and Victor Blom (the latter making it through) to a more audible Mike Matusow, Andy Black, Neil Channing, Freddy Deeb and Phil Laak. The Devilfish didn't make it through the day, nor did WSOP ME champion Noel Furlong, but plenty of previous bracelet-holders came through with good stacks, among them Phil Ivey and Phil Laak with just under 100k, JP Kelly, Roland de Wolfe and last year's champion Barry Shulman. Playing on his birthday was also Charles Chua, Macau deep-runner who might have been short but who gave over his special day to the WSOPE with gusto.

Leading the field, and in fact, with a count of 178,850, the entire stock of both days' survivors, is Irish Open champion James Mitchell, whose chip towers are only slightly higher than those of John Dolan, with 173,700. He's second out of the November Nine, and he's second here going into Day Two.

The action will recommence tomorrow at 12pm local time, when a complete redraw will intersperse players from both flights,...

No, it was inefficiency

He has knocked out Channing today

Channing opened, Mitchell 3 bet QJ on the button, Channing shoved/stopped and went on QQ9 with 10 10, Mitchell rivered Quads

Just been dealing for this at the empire, james comes over to my table having just come from isildur1s table. Has about double average, within 5hands he's pulled off a nice 6bet bluff button vs bb, showing just the powerful 2 spades. Sicko

PN Coverage....

If you remember back to our coverage of JP Kelly's final table in Event #3, Kelly was in contention to break Phil Ivey's record as the youngest player to win three gold bracelets. Unfortunately for Kelly, he fell in second place and the record still belongs to Ivey, his adversary in this hand.

Ivey raised to 2,700 and Kelly flat-called on the button. The flop came down {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Ivey bet out 4,000. Kelly made the call to bring them to see the {2-Clubs} on the turn. Ivey didn't slow down and fired 11,000. Kelly made another call.

The river completed the board with the {8-Spades} and Ivey fired out 25,000. Kelly thought for a minute or two and then moved all of his chips into the middle, totaling 80,300. Ivey asked how much the bet was for and then tanked a bit himself. He eventually tossed his hand into the muck and Kelly picked up the pot without showdown. He's now up to over 140,000 while Ivey slipped back to 302,000.

Ivey and/or Blom still leading the way with 300,000+ stacks

We’re down to almost a third of the field here at The Empire in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. There are but 119 players left in contention including the big stacks of Irish Open champion James Mitchell; Swedish online legend Viktor Blom; WSOP bracelet-winner Antonio Esfandiari and of course, Phil Ivey.
» Break time - level nine complete, 126 players remain.

Ivey still leads the way but Isildur1 is catching up fast with just ten big blinds between them. We're still rooting for them both to make the final table.
» Ivey still leads, Isildur1 still chases, Bansi and Krost double

The monstrous 320,000 stack of Ivey is challenged only by Viktor Blom's 250,000ish. Brit Bansi doubles up to 65k via PokerStars Pro Lacay.

Dream final table? Ivey, Isildur, Kelly, Trickett, Mitchell, Bansi, Matusow, Laak and Elezra would be my pick.

Negraneau's twitter reaction to busting

Dang it went broke ugh. Guy raised 33 I re-raised AK he shoved I called. He made a terrible play but it worked. So tilted right now.

then

Guy raised to 7100 I rr to 20100 with 100k to start hand. Same guy 4-bet me with 10-2 prior and showed. Did he REALLY think I'd fold to him?

then

Haven't been this annoyed from busting a tourney in ages.Wanted this one badly and thought did everything I could to win it. Regroup #wcoop

World Series of Poker Europe 2010
Event #4: £10,350 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller Heads-Up

PN report

It's a result that we here at the Empire had to wait an unscheduled extra three days for - but Mr. Gustav Hansen of Denmark has been waiting for it for a lot longer than that.

Hansen has been a regular at the WSOP in Las Vegas since 1996 when he and Huck Seed were the last two players to cough up their $10,000 for a Main Event seat. Seed went on to win it that year, and while Hansen has enjoyed some excellent results in the intervening years (three WPT titles plus an invitational is nothing to sneer at), he has never managed to get his hands on a coveted bracelet. Until now.

Hansen admitted that winning a bracelet was, "For sure a monkey off my back," but that he was somewhat surprised that it had come in a heads-up event. He conceded that he'd got rather lucky in his earlier round match against Phil Ivey, but beyond that was very happy with how he'd played, and with good reason - he almost had it won back on Day 3, before Jim Collopy made an extraordinary comeback to make it one-all.

Nevertheless, in a high-octane match that saw Collopy take an early lead before doubling Hansen back up in a crazy cooler of a hand - Collopy's slow-played flopped trips against Hansen's rivered full house - it was Hansen who came out on top. As he hobbles out into Leicester Square on his broken leg, Hansen will surely sleep well tonight, knowing that he has finally achieved the Holy Grail of poker - a bracelet.

Rolannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd

Wow, what an all-in situation we just witnessed on the secondary table upstairs on the balcony. Roland de Wolfe was the beneficiary of waking up with the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} after two of his opponents had gone all in, Barny Boatman and Clint Coffee. Here's the showdown.

Coffee: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Boatman: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
De Wolfe: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}

De Wolfe looked to be in great shape having both of his opponents dominated as they went to the flop. The flop came down {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Boatman picked up a pair of kings while Coffee added a straight draw. De Wolfe was still in front though with two cards to come.

The turn brought the {9-Spades} and only a king or a queen or cause de Wolfe to lose the hand and have his aces cracked.

The river completed the board with the {8-Hearts} and that was it. The tournament staff made sure to count down all three stacks and confirm who finished in what position. Coffee was the shortest of the three and was eliminated in 14th place. Boatman came close, but didn't have as many chips as de Wolfe and was sent to the rail in 13th as he had more than Coffee. Both earned £42,454. De Wolfe now has a whopping 1.16 million as the remaining 12 players head into break.

pn report

It's been an amazingly long road from 22 players to nine, but what a journey it's been.

We lost two-time bracelet winner Greg Mueller right off the bat in 22nd place, followed by Thomas Bichon (20th), Phil Ivey (19th), Viktor Blom (16th), Barny Boatman (13th) and Arnaud Mattern (12th), among others. But when the final 10 players condensed on to a single table, they were still at an average 65 big blinds apiece, meaning that it took us a while to reach our official, nine-handed final. But it was worth the wait, because this is going to be fun:

Seat 1: Roland de Wolfe (1,377,000)
Seat 2: Marc Inizan (349,000)
Seat 3: Nicolas Levi (428,000)
Seat 4: Fabrizio Baldassari (677,000)
Seat 5: Brian Powell (842,000)
Seat 6: Danny Steinberg (1,520,000)
Seat 7: James Bord - (1,331,000)
Seat 8: Ronald Lee - (1,899,000)
Seat 9: Dan Fleyshman - (1,946,000)

The blinds will be 10,000/20,000/3,000 when we reconvene at noon - with the average stack at 1.15 million, that's more than 57 big blinds apiece, meaning that we could well be in for another marathon final table - remember John Juanda in 2008, whose victory over Stanislav Alekhin didn't come until 11am the next day.

For the moment, though, our nine finalists get 13 hours of well-earned rest or drinking time, whichever floats their respective boats.

Nolan Dalla

The final table of the 2010 WSOP Europe Main Event is set!

The chip leader is Dan Fleyshman, from San Diego, CA (USA).  He has a number of small cashes in various tournaments dating back to 2005.  But this is his first time to cash at the WSOP.  He is a 29-year-old executive for an online poker company.  It will be interesting to watch how Fleyshman fares versus a formidable lineup of top international talent.

The Main Event began five days ago with 346 entrants.  The total prize pool amounted to £3,460,000, which is equal to about $5,475,363 (USD).  The top 36 finishers will collect prize money.  First place will pay £830,401, equal to about $1,314,176 (USD).

The final nine players are as follows:

SEAT 1:  ROLAND DE WOLFE
HOMETOWN:  London, UK
CHIP COUNT:  1,377,000
Roland De Wolfe is a 37-year-old professional poker player.  He is the only player at the final table who is a former WSOP gold bracelet winner.  He was victorious in the $5,000 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha championship in Las Vegas in 2009.  De Wolfe started out at a poker writer and enjoyed his first big in-the-money finish back in 2005.  Since then, he has cashed in numerous big tournaments around the world and has earned $2.5 million during his poker career.  In fact, De Wolfe is one of a very select group who has won in tournament poker what is often referred to as poker’s Triple Crown – with wins at the WSOP, WPT, and EPT.

SEAT 2:  MARC INIZAN
HOMETOWN:  Pluguffen, France
CHIP COUNT:  349,000
Marc Inizan is a 24-year old former student who is now a professional poker player.  He is enjoying a very big year in tournament poker.  He has achieved six major cashes, including a third place finish in the EPT Berlin Main Event.  But this marks his first time to appear at a WSOP final table.  He did take 13th place in this year's $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha championship.

SEAT 3:  NICOLAS LEVI
HOMETOWN:  London, UK
CHIP COUNT:  428,000
Nicholas Levi is a 27-year-old poker pro.  He says he enjoys windsurfing, snowboarding and dragging in big pots.  He also likes to wear a hat.  Levi was formally a student studying computer science and found he could make more money playing poker online.  He has numerous cashes over the past five years in every major tour stop in Europe.  He also cashed in the 2007 WSOP Europe Main Event.  Levi final tabled the $5,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Shootout earlier this year in Las Vegas, where he finished fifth.

SEAT 4:  FABRIZIO BALDASSARI
HOMETOWN:  Monte Carlo, Monaco
CHIP COUNT:  697,000
Fabrizio Baldassari is a poker pro from Monaco.  He has several cashes in major tournaments throughout Europe the past three years.  But this marks his first cash ever in a WSOP event.  Baldassari was asked if there is anything special about him he wants the audience to know.  He stated on his bio sheet – “I love my girlfriends.”  We are sure that Fabrizio did not mean to write an “s” on the word “girlfriends.”  The fun loving Italian-born poker pro starts this final table in the middle of the pack.

SEAT 5:  BRIAN POWELL
HOMETOWN:  Louisville, KY (USA)
CHIP COUNT:  842,000
Brian Powell is a 28-year-old poker player from Kentucky.  This marks his fifth time to cash at the WSOP.  His best previous finish was 13th place in the $10,000 buy-in Mixed event two years ago.  Powell also cashed in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, finishing in 66th place out of more than 6,000 players.

SEAT 6:  DANNY STEINBERG
HOMETOWN:  Fairfield, IA (USA)
CHIP COUNT:  1,520,000
Danny Steinberg is a 22-year-old professional poker player.  He has a twin brother who plays poker, and according to Danny – "is just as successful as me.”  Well, that won’t be true if Danny manages to win a gold bracelet at this final table.  He cashed twice at this year’s WSOP in Las Vegas, including an in-the-money finish in the Main Event.  He begins this final table ranked third in chips.
SEAT 7:  JAMES BORD

HOMETOWN:  Stanmore, UK
CHIP COUNT:  1,331,000
James Bord is a 29-year-old professional poker player.  Prior to playing for a living, he worked in banking.  This is only the second WSOP Europe event Bard has entered, but he is well on his way to achieving his highest live major tournament finish ever.  Bord has now cashed seven times at the WSOP, including a sixth-place finish in Las Vegas earlier this year in the Deuce-to-Seven Lowball championship.  Bord is far better known as a cash game player.  When he is in Las Vegas, he routinely plays 300-600 and 400-800 in the biggest poker rooms in the city.

SEAT 8:  RONALD LEE
HOMETOWN:  Jericho, NY (USA)
CHIP COUNT:  1,899,000
Ronald Lee is a 24-year-old professional poker player.  He was a student before turning pro.  Lee’s first big cash was in the 2008 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.  He cashed in the 2009 WSOP Main Event.  He also cashed in the Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em championship earlier this year in Las Vegas.  He is currently ranked second in chips.

SEAT 9:  DAN FLEYSHMAN
HOMETOWN:  San Diego, CA (USA)
CHIP COUNT:  1,946,000
Dan Fleyshman is a 29-year-old executive for an online poker company.  This marks his first time to cash in a WSOP event.  He has previously cashed numerous times in other smaller tournaments.  This marks the first time he has appeared at the final table of a televised major poker tournament.  Prior to joining the poker industry, Fleyshman was the founder of a multi-million dollar company which produced the energy drink called “Who’s Your Daddy.”  When he had his own company, he was -- at the time -- the youngest owner of a publicly-traded company at the age of 23.

The final table will be played at the Empire Casino in London.  This is the fourth consecutive year WSOP Europe has come to London.  Each of the nine finalists hopes to add his name to a list of former champions that includes Annette Obrestad (2007), John Juanda (2008), and Barry Shulman (2009).

Play in the final day is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 28th at noon.

Day Four began with only 22 players remaining.  It took about eight hours to play down to the final nine.  Former gold bracelet winners who cashed so far include -- Phil Ivey (USA), Hoyt Corkins (USA), Roland de Wolfe (UK), and Greg Mueller (Canada).

Indeed, there's some great poker to be played -- and you have the ability to watch it all for the first time ever, in a web stream broadcast from the World Series of Poker Europe.

Tune in to:  http://www.wsop.com/live-video/ where you will be directed to the web stream when play is in action.

The stream will be available will on Tuesday at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time in the United States -- which is 5:00 PM in London, where the event will be played at the Casino at the Empire.

In other news….

Four events have been complete this year at WSOP Europe.  The four previous winners were:

Anyone running a book?

Keith was going to, but it was too hard for him to price it up, what with all the unknowns at the table.

Snoopy's PN report on the Winner

World Series of Poker Europe 2010
Event #5: £10,350 WSOPE Championship No-Limit Hold'em

James Bord Wins WSOPE Main Event 2010 (£830,401)

by snoopy1239

346 players started this year's WSOPE Main Event, but when the smoke cleared and the dust settled, it was little known James Bord of England who rose above one of the calendar's best pound-for-pound fields to be crowned the Champion.

Some of the world's greatest poker players entered the event such as Tom 'durrrr' Dwan, Patrik Antonius, JC Tran, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth, complete with a double-decker bus and 11 Lady Gagas. As the tournament progressed, all eyes fixed themselves on Viktor Blom and Phil Ivey, the two high rollers sending forums into a wild frenzy as they seemed destined for the final table. But as they fell just inches short, Victory Poker CEO Dan Felyshman flourished to take a chip lead into a tough final that included French pro Nicolas Levi and triple crown winner Roland De Wolfe.

Starting the final fifth in chips, Bord was perhaps overlooked as a potential winner, but he had one weapon that no other player could boast: the support of the rail. Heavily cheered throughout, Bord climbed the ladder rung by rung, surviving any all-in showdown he was involved in and battling his way to a heads-up encounter with Fabrizio Baldassari.

Despite his Italian foe boasting a comfortable chip lead, there was something in the air at the Empire, and it just felt as though there was only going to be one winner. On this night, that man was Bord, who after doubling through with Big Slick, finally sealed the deal with tens holding against pocket fives.

The rail exploded like Mount Vesuvius and after the bedlam ceased, a victorious Bord collected his bracelet and officially became the 2010 WSOPE Champion. In conclusion, Bord beamed with pride: "I've got all the boys to say thank you to, you are unbelievable. And I'd like to say a big thank you to Sam Trickett. It's just such a relief to get one!"

Obsrestad, Juanda, Shulman - it's a hellava list to be part of, but Bord's name is now etched into the record books.

Anyone know who James Bord is?

Online handle?

Not sure about Online Keith

He's from North London. I know of him as he runs/backs a big stable of young lads called the "Poker Farm" who grind online out of a house in Cheshunt.

Alex Martin could tell you more, I think he was/is part of it.
