Title: EPT Copenhagen Day 1A - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on January 16, 2007, 10:16:59 PM
It's the night before the first day in Copenhagen, and we've sensibly arrived here now, so that we can get some sleep and check out what's going on in drizzly Denmark.  Not the three feet of snow which greeted us last time round, but that's OK, the comfortable Radisson Hotel is our base, and weather is something to be seen out of our 13th floor window.

Anyway, just thought we'd start of this EPT thread so that anyone who's managed to get a seat in this sell-out event can let us know if they want to be followed, or you can put us to work finding others.

Day 1A will start at 2pm local time (that's an early 1pm back in the UK) - we'll be following the action from the Wifi-d up press area.

Hi Jen.  Me and quantify are out here.  Not sure when he's playing, but I'm playing tomorrow (Day 1a), so I'll pop over and say hello before things kick off.

It was a bit of a late start, so although we should be approaching Level 2, we're still only half way through the first level where the blinds are 25/50.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen Day 1A - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on January 17, 2007, 01:53:49 PM
So at the most basic glance through as my 19 fingers autotyped (I took Snoopy's missing ones ahahahah) I spotted:

Dave Colclough
Daniel Philips
Peter Roche
Isabelle Mercier
Johnny Lodden
Nick Slade
Christian Grundtvig
Peter Eichhardt
Xuyen Pham
Steve Vladar
Jani Sointula
Les Kerrigan
Dario Minieri
Tore Lagerborg
Edgar Skjervold
Stuart Rutter
Mats Iremark

So actually quite a few there...and I am sure more recognisable faces will pop out whilst wandering through.  Seeing as we know who's in what seat, some pictures and detail from a couple of the players we don't know so well might appear soon - this is the great advantage of getting this information in a format we can actually use - thumbs up Copenhagen.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen Day 1A - Interactive

And hello all brave afternoon watchers - I set my alarm clock for 12:50 (should be able to get in the lift and walk into the casino in 45 minutes, right?) but failed to set the time on my phone correctly, so when I actually got up it was 1:50, thus causing no-shower panic which was entirely unnecessary given the lateness of the start.  That's the only thing to be criticised here, though, we have wifi, free cokes (the ones in glass bottles) and the tournament area is sensibly laid out with space between the tables and everything.

And unfortunately for us Brits, it looks like Stuart Rutter was the very first exit of the day, almost 45 minutes ago in fact (According to EPT London finalist, Peter Hedlund).

Hopefully one of Stu's friends, or Stuart himself will fill you in on the details of the hand.

I can only assume that it was a cooler.

Just brutal, my empty seat is explained by the way I predicted I would go out to continue my miserable run, middle set agsinst top set. It was against Peter Hedlund who I´ve played some massive pots with in the past with both of us having very little, so I think it was unpassable.

It all went in on

 9s  3d  2d               3c  3s   vs   9d  9c

Gutted, but youn can´t let this game get you down, so I´m trying to keep smiling!

Pics, then - from the Upstairs tables (I think 14-20) - this is why there's a decent amount of space between the tables in the main room this year - some players have been moved into a room of their own, like:

Isabelle Mercier
Peter Eichhardt
Steve Vladar
Nick Slade

As you can see, the blinds have just been raised to 50/100.  As you may also see, screen left, the whole thing seems to be under the banner of 'TK Poker Events International' - he's not even here and he's subliminally promoting himself...

Have spotted a hand involving a Brit.

Les Kerrigan bets out 1.7k into a Flop of 8d 6s 4d, only for Martin Stalros to move over the top for a total of 3.5k.

Les dwelt and dwelt (I honestly thought there was no chance of him not folding), before confidently slamming the rest of his chips in.

Martin tapped the table out of respect and swiftly released his hand, thanfully without the Oscar winning performance. Unfortunately for him, he is now down to just 4k after his failed move.

It's Jani Sointula (whom I believe you meant byJuha) - 10 points.

Just spoken to Nick Slade. He's down to 4,075 after running a King Flush into an Ace High Flush.

"I'm just glad I didn't move all-in. To be honest, he played it well and I played it like a donkey."

We've been trying to hunt down Daniel 'kinboshi' Phillips for the last 30 minutes, but he is not in his original seat.

I've never met the lad, so he's going to be tricky to find, but I'll do my best. Hopefully he wasn't an early casualty and just switched tables.

Oh yeah, her name is Pernille Ravn, but something tells me that Kev and co aren't bothered about that.  :D

A few of you might recognise this chap from the WPT shows. Remember when Roland won a million in the Grand Final, well this guy also finalled for a packet.

For those who don't know, his name is Claus Nielsen and I believe he is from Finland. Watch out for him, pretty solid player, currently on 4,475.

I KNOW you know this chap. If you are one of the few who don't, then may I introduce to you... Mr Johnny Lodden - one of the most successful online players around. It's only a matter of time before he takes down a big live comp too, perhaps this will be his week as he's already up to 15,250.

Good news kinboshi fans, our man, aka Daniel Phillips, has been tracked down, and by the look of the photo, he's all smiles.

Currently on 9,525, Daniel has kept a pretty low profile thus far.

"I haven't been involved in too much. I was up to 12-13k at one point, but dribbled back down to 9.5k after dodging a few big hands. No real fireworks just yet though."

Here's a familiar pairing. On the left is Jani Sointula, who not only won the 2004 Monte Carlo Millions, but also finalled in last years Paris WPT. Then, seated next to the Fin, is the dainty figure of Isabelle Mericer, well know not only in Europe, but also across the pond.

Jani = 5,025
Isabelle = 5,600

(1) Stuart Ferguson -- 6,800
(2) Colin Ogden -- 16,350
(3) Ken Jensen -- out
(4) Lasse Havord -- 8,375
(5) Peter Davidsen -- 16,130
(6) Claus Nielsen -- 4,300
(7) Claus Tversted -- 5,625
(8) Maximillianos Trigas -- 14,900
(9) Johnny Lodden -- 12,300
(10) Peter Fischer -- 10,425

As I joined this table, Ogden and Trigas were fighting it out over a 7k pot. With a board of 4d 2d Js 6c 9c, Trigas had (virtually) moved all-in for 7k, leaving just shrapnel behing. Ogden eventually folded, but still has a decent stack.

Elimination on Table Six - Martin Vallo gets his last 4k in on a Jc 3c Qh flop against Jan Petersen - he shows Ad Qc, while Jan has Qs Jd.  The Tens on the turn and river are no help, and we've got another table of nine.  Here's its chip distribution:

(1) Erik Bardsgard              couldn't count; still in
(2) Jan V Petersen              15,350
(3) Christian Oman               6,200
(4) Patric Bueno                 10,400  (says he's already been down to just 1,000.  "Steady on," was the meaningless advice I could come up with)
(5) Ole-Petter Nilsen            20,200
(6) Martin Vallo                       OUT
(7) Eoghan Arthur O'Dea      14,300
(8) Klaus Frederiksen            13,300
(9) Dennis Plejdrup               6,300
(10) Daniel Fritze                  5,500

One more, in its full glory:

Table 2:

(1) Tune Seidelin           14,000
(2) Thomas Elmkjaer         4,500
(3) Morten Erlandsen       11,300
(4) Michael Frendsen        10,600
(5) Christer Johnansson    7,800
(6) Jan Erik Saugstad        8,400
(7) Paul Testud               8,075
(8) Torstein Iversen        12,100
(9) Tobias Persson            10,950
(10) Christer Conesson     17,800

More chip counts:

Table D.C.  (3, for our reference)

(1) Peter Jepsen         12,200
(2) Jonas Torrang         Moved*
(3) Claus Marcussen      7,300
(4) Erik Bjorklund            4,225
(5) EMaarten Meijer        9,000
(6) Runar Pedersen         6,625
(7) Dave Colclough           12,600
(8) Conny Hillbom           4,300
(9) Thang Nguyen Duc   11,000
(10) Morten Siversten      14,500

* this guy, according to Dave, "A young, good-looking Scandinavian" (well that narrows it down) was apparently running over his table.  DC rates him highly, so I'll look for stacks over 20k.  "So, are you pleased he got moved?"  I asked El Blondie.  "Yes," he replied.

Table 9

(1) Shahin Hajbarati             21,500
(2) Helge Stjernvang           Moved/Out
(3) Anders Johan Kuhl           8,000
(4) Marcello Haener              10,525
(5) Dario Minieri                   5,250
(6) Daniel Raymon Bodin        7,500
(7) Ricki Nielsen                    12,800
(8) Jonas Helness                10,300
(9) Luca Pagano                   11,000

Have spotted a hand involving a Brit.

Les Kerrigan bets out 1.7k into a Flop of 8d 6s 4d, only for Martin Stalros to move over the top for a total of 3.5k.

Les dwelt and dwelt (I honestly thought there was no chance of him not folding), before confidently slamming the rest of his chips in.

Martin tapped the table out of respect and swiftly released his hand, thanfully without the Oscar winning performance. Unfortunately for him, he is now down to just 4k after his failed move.
Les tells me he had  6d 6h but (unlike PP) he couldn't manage the laydown.

News for NoflopsHomer:  The Agreysive Dario Minieri doubles up from very short stack to short stack -

Pictured here he'd already got his coat when his 8c 8s raced Aspades Ts.  But the board was all low (apart from an irrelevant Jack) and he got to sit back down.  But who knows for how long...

With Daniel 'kinboshi' Philips queitly watching on with his 7,325 stack, an interesting hand develops between Frode Fagerli and Emile Petit (both pictured below, the latter fortunate to be having his back rubbed by a busty blonde).

Board = Td 4c 3c 2s

Frode casually bets 2.5k into a 6.8k pot, and Emile swiftly calls.

River = 2h

Emile checks and Frode once again makes a nonchalant bet of 2.5k.

Emile sits back before leaning forward inqusitively and asking, "How much do you have left?"

On receiving a response (about 6k), the renowned Frenchman confidently announces all-in, perhaps suggesting he was taking advantage of a possible value bet.

Knowing this, I feel Frode genuinely considered making the call with top pair (or perhaps an overpair), especially with the possible missed flush on board.

However, he did indeed fold what was probably a pretty strong hand, only to be delighted as Emile revealed his Pocket Tens for the full house.

My spiders senses inform me that Frode made the correct decision.

Where has he obtained these thespian skills from?

Our dinner break is Now, apparently - giant sandwiches (pictured with absolutely no perspective trickery) such as the ham, cheese and asparagus one I am currently consuming just appeared.  I love this place (see Mum, fed before that dizzy feeling kicked in).  I might move here, after a spell in Helsinki...

And the second photo is...not sure - let's play Identify This Food.

Yeah, those are dried figs. Tasty, in a slightly crunchy sort of way...

Your sandwich is nothing compared to mine. I just constructed and consumed the King of Sandwiches, involving rotissed chicken breast in homemade barbecue sauce, coleslaw, red onions, crispy bacon, Crystal hot sauce and rocket salad in a multigrain tortilla. Mmm.

Actually I feel a bit unwell now. Maybe it was a bit much for breakfast.

"That's big, isn't it?" asks an ooponent in the blinds.

This is Rickie Nielsen (12,300), a Scandie! Who would have thought. Anyhow, Rickie must be pretty flush at the moment as it wasn't that long ago that he took away a nice 6 figure sum away from Vegas after reaching the very latter stages of the WSOP Main Event. If my memory serves me right, he came 17th. Can any nerds confirm this?

Torstein Iversen gets a double up courtesy of now down-to-felt Christer Johansson.  Only caught this hand when they were on their backs (no idea how 20k+ managed to get in on the flop of 2s 4d 8s)...
Torstein showed:  Ks Kc
Christer showed:  Qd 8d

Turn and river:  9s Kh - they deal the board really slowly and methodically - pause, deal face-down card in position, pause, turn it over - so there's always time for an excited crowd to gather.

Pictured:  Torstein Iversen in blue, Christer Johansson behind lamp.

Philip Hilm, who has a chunky 29,900 sitting behind, makes a big Fold to Peter Eichhardt.

Philip had bet 2.5k on a board of Ts 9c 2h 5s, only for Peter to move all-inin for 5.3k.

Philip must have been pretty sure he was up agaunst a set or something similar, as he folded Pocket Queens face up.

Pretty brave fold considering it was 5.3k more, only a 6th of his stack.

Just witnessed a harsh hand involving the guy below, who was the ultimate victor.

Board was Jc 4h Kd 2c and Scandieboy's Aspades Jd was in big doo doo against his opponent's Ks Js.

"No Ace, no ace, no ace!" chanted the leader.

Guess what came??

As a result, Scandieboy now has 14,625.

If by miracle, someone is able to name him, please do so...

Amsuing hand just unfolded between big chipper, Brent Wheeler (yep, you guessed it, he's American), and Marco Lucidi.

With a board of 2h 9s 4d 8c, the pot managed to reach a rather substantial 23k - possibly the biggest of the night (by the Turn, anyhow).

With another raggy card hitting the River, Brent bet out 8.5k, which was called with a grimace by Marco.

And would you adam and eve it, they both revealed Kings.

Oh how we laughed.

So, it looks like Mr. Roche might well be our chip leader, now with over 35k (towers, again).  Close behind is Patrick Bueno's 32,000, while a few are heading that way:

Pernille Ravn        27,500
Mats Iremark       24,000
Morten Sivertsen  21,500
Anders Berg        19,000
Luca Pagano        18,500
Erik Nickelson       18,000
Anders Kuhl         17,125

Noah Boeken        13,200  (pictured because he has a shiny hat)
Torstein Iversen    12,000

Dave Colclough     11,125
Thang Duc Nguyen  10,500
Les Kerrigan           8,100
ElkY                     6,700
Christer Johansson  6,450
Johnny Lodden     6,200
Frode Fagerli         4,300

Also exiting in the last 10 mins was Bad Girl Xuyen Pham - she'd had under 4k for what seemed like most of today, and it all went in with Ahrt 3h against Qc Jc.  A spiked something (Steve was unclear, or I didn't hear) and she's off on the rail.

Peter Jespen eliminates Thang Duc Nguyen too - his Ac Ks hit both pairs against Nguyen's Qh Qs.

Down to 130 players.
Blinds 150/300, ante 25.

After his shaky start, I saw him checking a river (heads up, second to speak) on a board of A-Q-rag-rag-rag, with about 4,500 in the middle.  He showed Qs 7d and that dodgy hand won a nice early pot, edging him back up to his current 11k or so.  "Gifts from the gods..." he muttered.

Noah Boaken is OUT.

Slighty unlucky too.

Moving his shortstack all-in from early position with Q-Q, Noah found a call in Johnny Lodden who called, and hit, with his A-T.

Boaken didn't look best pleased.

It's not all bad, he's still sitting next to a fox.

In fact, I think it's caused him to revert to survival mode.

Coming to the end of the 15 minute break - I must reiterate what a comfortable place this venue is to work, and, presumably, to play.  Free butter cookies, chocolates and mints just arrived.  I'm sleeping in here tonight to see if they bring late-nite ice cream.

Double up for Peter Roche, whose towers had crumbled ever so slightly - we think his neighbour, whose stack was so big he was still left with 28k+ after doubling Peter to over 45k, is Eric Lindberg...

Anyway, I saw Peter's chips being counted out by the dealer in preparation for matching them, and his hand was 5c 5h vs. the Ad Ahrt of Big-stack.  We all can see what happened there - the board was 4h 5s 2c Ks Qh.

Then a really odd one for Peter Eichhardt and, if the seating chart can still be relied upon (sorry for lack of prior knowledge of a lot of these guys) Espen Saltnes.  I'll call him 'Seat One.'  Anyway, Peter had raised preflop to 1,500, called somewhere in mid position, before Seat One pushed all-in for a little less than 10k.  Think, then call from Peter, run away from caller.  Reluctant to show his hand, Seat One asked, "You have a pair?" before revealing his 8h 8s.  "I haven't got much either," said Peter, showing Aspades Jd.
Flop:  6d 7c 8d  so far so good for the all-in
Turn:  5h
River:  9h  Chop.  They both get 750 from the preflop folder, though.

Although online superstar, Betrand 'ElkY' Grospeiller' (click here (http://www.blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/5766) to read his blonde interview), is the central piece of this photo, the hand in question actually occured between the two chaps either side (seat 1 may well be Jonas Torrang) which involved a 2k, 4k all-in fold war on a raggy flop, the fellow on the right finally taking down the pot.

Thanks Matt - I'll be honest and say this isn't the easiest EPT in the pack (sellout before all you disorganised UK players could get around to buying yourselves in) but they've done their best to make it comfy and easy for us.  The listing of players by table has turned the impossible into the improbable...quite enjoying it actually.

Time to put names and chip counts to actual faces.

First up is this chap, Marco Lucidi, who has been dominating Xuyen Pham's former table along with chip leader and American online qualifier, Brent Wheeler.

Marco, who one can only assume is Italian in origin, is currently on 38,125.

Hi Snoopy liked your article about ElkY - I have been on the same table as him many times particularly during events like the WCOOP on stars. He is a very good player. I can imagine he must find it extremely slow playing live as playing 12-14 tables you would need lightning speed. The most I can comfortably do is 4 tables as if I get caught up in a battle on one of the tables I tend to not focus on the other tables and often get timed out on at least 1 table.

Looks like I'll be entering Walsall so will see you down there in February.

ps NZ were robbed in the Cricket

I have no idea how these guys do it to be honest, especially if they're playing No Limit tables. Like you, I can only manage 4 tables simultaneously, any more and I just don't get enough time to think about hands to their fullest, which then leads to me making big mistakes. When I asked him how he played so many at once, his reply was that making decisions and thinking on his feet came naturally to him due to his endless hours of pro-gaming, which was his previous occupation. To be honest, everytime I'm passing, he always looks a tad bored. Maybe instead of the shades, he needs those Homer Simpson glasses with the eyes painted on so he can have a quick nap without his sponsors realising.

Look forward to seeing you in Walsall.

Nick Slade's had a hard time getting off the starting blocks...just when he looks to be getting over 10k, something happens to drop him back down to around 8k (where he is presently).  His latest loss involved calling "a Scandie preflop raiser with Aspades Kd."  He got an unwelcome second caller, and the flop came K-J-Q.  Original raiser Matey bet out, Nick raised, and then "that plum Dutchman re-raised.  I folded and he showed K-J."  Doesn't mince his words, does Nick.

Just saw him move all-in for what at the time was 6k over the top of cutoff raiser Pernille Ravn's raise to 1,200.  She said, "very bad timing."  "Who for?"  "For me."  And passed.

Meanwhile, still in the secondary room (which is down to just three tables - player count now 102), Johnny Lodden has yo-yo'd his stack back up from under 7k to over 20k.

And so sad this is the only EPT you're not at... never fear - one eye is on the dauntless Peter Roche, currently varying between 20k and 45k.  At the moment, his stack's about 26,000.

This level (300/600 ante 50) will be the last played tonight.  Originally planned was a nine-level day, but apparently they're being too efficient at reducing the field so we're going to get an early night.  And to think, room service might still be delivering Dominos Pizza!  Every hotel would, in my opinion, benefit with a tailor-made button with a picture of a pizza on it.  You know what you're getting.

Frode Fagerli, short stacked for at least two hours, seems to have gone into multipush mode - just picked up 1,200x2 uncontested, increasing his chips to 5,000 in the process.

I reckon the quick fall in players will soon stall, as the chips consolidate and they find themselves with plenty of play for the blind level coming next.  That's going to make day Two (day after tomorrow) a very long haul...

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen Day 1A - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on January 17, 2007, 09:56:44 PM
I'm not sure if Jen's told you this one, but Nick Slade received a slowroll earlier on.

The board read K-T-Q-x-x, Nick bet the river blind with his trip tens, only for his opponent to take an absolute age in calling just 1,500 with J-9, laughing as he revealed his hand.

Nick started the thread earlier on about high fiving and whatnot, but the slowroll has to be a pet hate of mine. I'd love to see it punished somehow, but it would be way too tricky to implement.

Actually, yes - he was down to a bowl of rice 3,600.  On the small blind.  Button Frode Fagerli says before he looks at his cards, "If I have Nine high, I'm all in..." then looks and passes.  The coast is clear for him to push on big blind John Persson....and push he does - call.
Daniel shows:  2s Kd
John shows:  Td Jc
Flop:  Js 9d Ks  ("Ooh, that's good," quietly remarks Daniel)
Turn:  7c
River:  Aspades

And he's doubled up in the last 45 mins of play...

After being around 6k only moments ago, Dave has now worked his way up to a much more playable 26,075.

Not one big hand, just a series of big starting hands.

"I haven't found a hand all night, and then, all of a sudden, 4 or 5 big hands in a row. First I won an all-in with Jacks v Fours, then I took the blinds with A-Q. After that, I re-raised a raise with Kings and added some more to my stack before finally eliminating a player with Ace King versus Ace Nine".

And even more good news for the British warriors as Nick Slade recieves a timely up courtest of the rather wild Johnny Jensen.

Nick made it 1,800 with A-J and Jensen re-raised to 6,100.

Knowing he had to get this one right, Nick decided that he was ahead and moved the lot in for 9,500 in total.

Jensen had a (virtually) obligatory call to make and was forced to reveal his T-5o.

Slade's hand stood up and now he's up and running around the 20k mark.

See, never mess with Private Slade.  ;hattip;

If something good has happened to DC, something bad has happened to Jonas Helness.  He didn't look best pleased to be on around 5k after having a very good start to the tournament.  He's got the last seven hands to do something about it - Thomas Kremser announced when the clock hit 10 mins that they would be playing Seven more hands instead of waiting for the minutes to tick away.  Interesting alternative.  I think I like it.

The last hand of the night has been played (pretty early finish, huh?) and the bags have been pulled out.

Just at the death, Brent Taylor lost a 15k pot to a fellow American with Nines vs. A-Q (An Ace hit the Turn), but he's still a massive chipper with around 75k, quite probably the overnight chip leader.

Hot on his heels, however, are the likes of Jonas Helness with 50k, Anton Smolyanskiy with 60k and Peter Fischer, who is currently Johnny Lodden's neighbour with 70k.

As the last hand was dealt, the board claimed there were 89 players left with an everage stack of 22,471.

P.S. I find it unfair that the Ladbrokes press suite comes equipped with a table football table.  We could at least get air hockey in Dortmund...I'll have a word with John Duthie.

Maybe it did. But without the distractions, your coverage is FAR SUPERIOR.

I object to the lack of photographic coverage of the buffet.

Cookie photos tomorrow please.

 :hello:

Thanks for the support everyone.  Having a great time out here, even though these Scandies love to re-raise with bugger-all off-suit all the time.

The only time it was folded round to the BB, was when I had AA!!  I hadn't even looked at the cards until everyone folded...

Anyway, was down to the felt, and managed to double up with a push with K2o which stood up to JTo.

Then I doubled up again soon after when a big stack raised, and Frode Fagerli pushed all-in with his 6,000 or so.  I had  Ad Qd, and pushed my remaining 7,000-odd in.  Fortunately, the big stack folded, and Frode turned over his  Ahrt 8h, and my queen kicker prevailed.

So I somehow managed to survive Day 1, and finished with 15,700.  Still short-stacked, but not completely desperate when I get back to it on Friday.

Just met Snoops and Jen for the first time and had a drink and a chat with them.  Really nice to speak to them in the flesh, and I think they both deserve a big pat on the back for their updates.

It'll also be good to have tomorrow off, and a chance to chill out and watch other playing instead.  Looking forward to a good kip now...

Thanks again for your support, and I'll do my best again on Friday - and hopefully double-up early so I can hang around for a while.

Cheers.

A bit of luck, and a nice double-up and I'll be able to play some poker!  Who knows?  Already got further than I expected, especially from where I was with a few hours to go.
