Title: AQA II
Post by: Claw75 on March 31, 2008, 06:13:53 PM
I'm bored.  If anyone wants to try a skinflint version I'll attempt to answer any questions put here over the next hour (or until I find something more interesting to do) for the grand cost of nada.

is equal chance legal?

Its a fair point, I accept.

I have written to EC asking them to comment on this thread so we all know the facts. Whether they do or not, up to them

As to blonde having a relationship with EC, well we are happy to run a child board/forum for them and (in principle though they aren't set up yet) to run cardroom sats for EC events. I agree it would be good for OUR customers to know the facts about legality before they decide to play these

tikay has also talked about his views on "unlicenced" clubs in his EC threads now contained on the board.

my own belief is that the issue centres around the following points from legislation

a) "In a members club which holds a club gaming permit, there are no limits on the stakes and prizes provided that the club meets the requirements set out in the Act". (and EC does host a variety of non poker activities)

but b) "Advice to licensing authorities on club gaming permits and club machine permits: Gambling Act 2005
December 2007

1.4 Before granting a club gaming permit which, for example, will permit the playing of poker for unlimited stakes and prizes, licensing authorities must satisfy themselves that the club is not wholly or mainly devoted to poker. Even if a club offers other sports and activities, if the majority of the club’s activities are gaming (poker) judged for example by income, time spent on activities or some combination, then the club’s purpose will not be ‘wholly or mainly' for purposes other than gaming. Those clubs who hold club gaming permits and conduct themselves in such a way that gaming (poker) is the main activity are in breach of the Act and may render themselves liable to prosecution."

a) and b) there represent the nub of it from my research.

If a club gaming permit has been granted to ANY club, then the licensing authorities were satisfied the club would conduct themselves in accordance to the above conditions. That makes them perfectly legal, in opening their doors. We go , we play poker, snooker, tiddlywinks ....everyone is happy.

IF it subsequence comes to light an establishment might not be conforming to the conditions of the licence ,then surely its up to licensing authorities to investigate, interview, and ask for income breakdown etc. There is no need for a "raid", ...everyone accepts Poker goes on legally AT THE MOMENT.....surely its only illlegal if the licence is revoked.

A member of the Public should be told about (a) above, and be satisfied all is in order. If there is a problem with (b) above, thats up to the authorities to revoke the licence and inform the club and public.

Getting hold of the pot would have been easier due to the leprechauns' inibreated state, but hardly worth the trouble as the contents of the pot had been spent down the offy.

Scientists have solved one of the acoustic world's riddles. It is a myth, they will announce today, that a duck's quack has no echo.

question one - no.

the nostril thing I believe is normal, and they swap every 20 minutes or so.

not sure about inhalation actually, but this is definately true for exhalation.  If you want to catch them at it, I'd suggest holding a small mirror under your nostrils for a time.

I agree, porridge for brekkie only!

In many cultures, porridge is eaten as a breakfast dish, often with the addition of salt, sugar, milk or cream. As the traditional breakfast of Scotland (where it is also spelled porage) it is made with salt. Some manufacturers of breakfast cereal sell "ready-made" versions; aficionados question whether these can truly be called porridge. In parts of Asia, porridge is made for horses and donkeys. Porridge is one of the easiest ways to digest grains or legumes, and is used traditionally in many cultures to nurse the sick back to health.

After some rigourous testing (i.e. I just tried it on my couch), I too can touch my nose with my right big toe with ease, but not with my left.  I am right handed.

It would be helpful if some other readers could try this out and report back the results before I make any further analysis.

After further extensive research there appears to be no correlation between handedness and the abiility to touch either big toe to one's nose.  I actually think you and I are 'normal' though.

Which member of blonde has just been evacuated from their house due to an unexploded bomb?

I'm not even sure it's a bomb.  Whatever it is though, it's explosive and they've evacuated the whole street.  They said it would be 24 hours until we're allowed back.  Bloody annoying as I was knackered and was just going to bed.

Lucky I wasn't deep in a tournament.  I know, it's unlikely, but so is being evacuated out of your home at 10 o'clock at night in case your street blows up.

Got my laptop though before I left, of course.

You are driving down a country lane in your two-seater sports car, it is raining hard and very cold. You pass a bus stop and notice three people standing there. One is a frail, old lady, one is your lifelong best friend, and one is the girl/guy of your dreams. Who do you offer a lift to and why?

If you leave your mate in the pissing rain for a girl you've only just met he will get the hump.

We didn't.  AQA II are not responsible for the advice or opinions of others on this forum.  If fact, we're not really that responsible for our own actions.  Please seek out financial advice before taking out any loan.  Remember, your home is at risk if you fail to repay any loan secured against it.  My house is also at risk, but that's from exploding gas cannisters.

Best mate of course - you can't go offering lifts to strangers.

If I'm driving a two-seater sports car there is a likelyhood that I am a bit of a twat, so I might just pass them at full speed ensuring they get drenched as I drive through a huge puddle, then I can laugh menacingly at people who are so poor they have to get a bus in the rain.

Has the bomb been sorted out Kin?

It's not a bomb we've found out, it's a 'volatile gas cannister'.  We still weren't allowed back to our house last night, but they reckon we might be later today.

Apparently, the cannister is in the hole that was being dug by some utility company, and on Monday evening someone turned up with cutting gear and tried to nick it!!  The fire and police told us that whoever tried to cut through the copper piping/cabling generated a lot of heat and that's what's caused the cannister to become dangerously volatile.

Or something like that...

A qualification in nuclear physics is unnecessary, as the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station is coal-fired.

Thanks mate :)....wooohoooo.I can get that physisicist job and live near DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/index.php?affiliate=blonde)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/index.php?affiliate=blonde) :)

I was thinking of maybe a cushy job like Health and Safety manager or something...I probably wouldn't make enough as a cleaner...then again...If I had to clean them big tower things I suspect I'd make plenty as they'd huge..and probably dirty.

You could be a lighthouse cleaner.  Although there are probably as many of them in Nottingham as there are nuclear power stations.

It was more exciting when it was an unexploded bomb

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/7324490.stm

Quote
Up to 17 homes had to be evacuated in Staffordshire after metal thieves set a gas cylinder on fire.

Police said they believed the criminals started the blaze to help them detach lengths of industrial cable left on the side of Pennymoor Road, Tamworth.

People living in the road were told to leave their homes on Monday night amid fears the cylinder would explode.

They will not be able to return before at least 2100 BST until the cylinder has cooled down.

A 660ft (200m) exclusion zone was set up around the site.

Alan Bateman, of Staffordshire Fire Service, said crews had been called to the road at about 2100 BST on Monday.

He said the situation had been "like dealing with a bomb".

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police, which said the cable was worth about £10,000, urged anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

so true.

the article can be summarised in 4 words, 'small fire, nothing happened'.

Quote
Up to 17 homes had to be evacuated

and that's just lazy journalism, when the number is that small they could find out exactly how many it was while waiting for nothing to happen instead of just guessing

Title: Re: AQA II

gas cannisters can be just as lethal as bombs especially when they are subjected to a heat source.

When i was an apprentice they showed us a video of a propane bottle inside a house exploding and it nigh on totally demolished the whole house. It is the reaon why when there is a fire in or near  gas cannisters they normally give it 24 hours to cool off before allowing anyone re-entering the zone.

Of course, but I cant get it onto the clipboard!  The button has 'Print' on the top & 'PrtScr' on front, holding CTR or ALT works with neither

You have 8 identical looking coins, one is a fake. The only way you know which one is the fake is because it weighs a tiny bit less than the rest of them.

All you have to figure out which one is the fake is an old fasion scale (like the libra sign...) and you are only allowed to use it twice. How do you do it?

Title: Re: AQA II
Post by: kinboshi on April 03, 2008, 03:47:59 PM
Put three on each side.  If they don't balance, you know that the 'fake' is on the lighter side (if they balance, then it's one of the two you've set aside, and you compare those two).

Then you have 3 coins.  Place one aside and the other two on the scales.  If they balance it's the one you set aside, if not, it's the lighter one of the two.

Usually not.  But you'll be fine, as you've been auto-saving your document every 5 minutes, and have saved additional copies as you've gone along - so you have only lost a few minutes of work.

cant believe this was 3 months ago...

If i'm moving to a new flat, should it be up to me to have a phone socket installed or the landlord?   If me, whats the cost likely to be?

Title: Re: AQA II

AQA II says that's it's up to you to get a phone line installed, but if you do it can become the property of the landlord when you leave - the same with a Sky dish.  AQA heard this information at third hand and so cannot guarantee the reliability or accuracy of it.  If you speak to the landlord he might agree to pay some or all of the cost of installation (doubt it though) as it means the house will have that in place for future tenants.

Are you looking to get a BT or cable line?

Was assuming BT, but whats the difference?    Its not a house phone i need really, its more for the internet...

depends on the service you will get, cable line and you will be with Virgin Media or equiv for phone and web, BT line and you can choose your ISP

I did contemplate getting a 3G dongle or such like, but have heard bad reports on the whole about the connection speed etc...

I'd recommend cable myself.  I had to have it installed here when we bought this house about 5 years ago as the BT exchange couldn't provide broadband to us.  So cable it was.  The broadband has been solid, never causes a problem, and although it's more expensive than other providers you can get down a BT line, I think it's value for money.

I'm sure someone else will come along and recommend another ISP via a BT line.

dongle a no no for u for sure, i think it will do you nut in..

Just changed from BT (was having loads of problems, always cutting off), now with O2 broadband, no probs and only £7.50 pm if u have o2 mobile..

BT line or cable, cable probably more reliable, but more expensive

More the installation cost really rather than the monthly cost, the place doesnt have a phone line/socket...

it's a pain in the bum, but if you want it I think you'll have to pay for it (I had to pay to get a bt line put in when I moved into my (rented) flat).  Well, I didn't have to, but if I wanted sky TV and internet I did :)

It cost nothing when I connected with Bulldog, they arranged for BT to install the line at no cost to myself, and no connection cost with Bulldog either (that I can remember anyway...)

About 18 months ago, I think. I know it's not relative in terms of current promotions but surely there are other companys that do the same sort of thing.
