Ok here's an old one

Hellmouth's Animals

Hellmuth classifies poker players in 5 general catagories, only 4 of which most of us will ever get the chance to play against.  They are the mouse, jackal, elephant, lion and eagle.  Their poker characteristics are as follows:

The Mouse

The mouse is an ultra conservative player who plays very strict starting hand requirements (see Hellmuth's Top 10).  The mouse will bet, but rarely ever raises a bet or reraises.  The mouse almost never bluffs.  If a mouse actually does raise or re-raise, it probably means they have an almost unbeatable hand.  The mouse's weakness is that he or she is simply too predictable.  When the mouse starts to raise, good players typically fold their hands, and in the mouse loses out on some chips they may have won, had they not earned themselves such a stodgy reputation.  This character type is also referred to as a rock  For the record, mice tend to make more money than they lose, espeically at low limit loose games.  Their pots are not always the largest in the world, but they take down way more pots than they lose, due to their conservative play.

The Jackal

I have found jackals to be pretty common animals in low limit, online poker rooms.  This type of player plays alot of cards, and bets and raises with abandon.  He is the direct opposite of the mouse.  The jackal's chip stack often resembles a roller coaster ride, as it will climb when he has great cards, and then fall back to near nothing when he has a string of bad cards.  You can make alot of money off a player like this.  Do not ever be afraid to call a jackal, because since they play loose, you will catch them bluffing with trash often.  A jackal is destined to lose his money if he ventures far beyond 50 cent ante poker, where good players see him for the loose player that he is and take advantage of his weaknesses.

The Elephant

The elephant is what most poker players refer to as a “calling station.“  The elephant has loose starting hand requirements, and so he plays in alot of pots.  As a result, he ends up in alot of hands that he or she has no chance of winning.  The elephant is content to call his hand to the river, even when common sense tells him hes beaten.  This type of player does not lose all of his chips at once, since he generally prefers calling to raising, but over time, the elephant contributes most of his chip stack to the other players.  Hellmuth notes that there is no point in trying to bluff the elephant, but if you have good cards, you know he will pay you all the way to the river.  I have found from my experience, that this “animal“ is the predominant one found at online low limit tables.  Watch a few games, and you will notice the huge number of online players who play practically every hand, and call to the river with complete trash.  The elephant will beat you occasionally simply because he is willing to draw till the end.  On the whole though, this is yet another player who is easy to make money off of.

The Lion

The lion is rare in low limit games.  He has good starting hand requirements, but will occassionally take a calculated risk on cards not on his “list.“  The lion plays aggressive poker when he is ahead and folds when he is behind.  Occasionally the lion will bluff in an advantageous position, but his bluffs are rare enough that the other players must respect him.  The lion is an excellent poker player, and makes his living taking chips from the mouse, elephant and jackal.  A tight player who takes the occasional risk or bluff to keep from getting labeled a “rock“ would be a good example of a lion.

The Eagle

The eagle is a character that most of us will never reach or even play against.  The eagle represents the pinnacle of the poker world.  He or she has studied the game for years and is now in the upper ranks of the poker world.  Hellmuth considers an eagle to be one of the top 100 players in the world.  If you reach this status, the rest of us will be watching as you take down pots on one of the several televised poker events!

Conclusion:

So how can you as a poker player put these characterizations to use?  As I noted before, endless note taking can be tedious and even pointless if you do not keep them properly organized. The “animals“ offers a great way to organize how you think about the different players at your table.  Rather than saying “this player plays alot of pots...he called to the river with a pair of 7's...he never folds to a bluff...“ and so on and so forth, you can simply put “elephant“ in your notes about this player.

Amazing in its simplicity and effectiveness.  Granted, all of the players in the world will not each be perfect fits for one category.  However, this system offers a great place to start in organizing your thoughts about how each player plays and what strategies to use against them.  It takes hardly any time at all to jot down a characterization in a players notes, and the payoff when you see this player again can yield huge profits.

The Orient Express

I thought there was only one Orient Express that ran from Paris to Istanbul and then on to China

But Searching on line theres hundreds of 'em !!

There's even 2 in England that take passengers for a day trip through the Dales "very Oriental"

The Orient Express

Ever since 1883, when the Orient Express made its first journey from Paris to Istanbul,The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is distinctive down to the smallest detail. The train is composed of original 1920s and 30s European carriages, lovingly restored.

There is a British Orient Express. A day trip aboard the British Pullman or Northern Belle will allow someone special to be transported back to the golden age of travel.

The British one is pulled by steam from Southampton and London Victoria
The British Pullman. Originally conceived as "Palaces on Wheels" by George Mortimer Pullman,  is an original 1920s and 30s masterpiece from the golden age of rail travel.

The Northern Belle is a steam that pulls restored 1930's carriages

Did you know that the collective noun for Crows is called a murder.

The only reason I know that is my brother in law asked me one Easter. "Do You know what a group of Crows is called?"

I did not.

He proudly explained that it was called a murder of crows. His day job is a policeman and he asks all the little people he arrests for little crimes the same question. He lets them go if they get the right answer, if they are incorrect, they go in the back of the van.

At Christmas he asked me the same question. "Do you know what a group of crows is called?"

"A murder?" I ventured a guess.

He was very impressed. His tells me how all the little people he arrests for little crimes are asked the same question. He lets them go if they get the right answer, if they are incorrect, they go in the back of the van.

I have kept my first driving licence and use it when people ask to see it

I joined a firm 2 years ago and they said "You can drive a company car ,have you got your licence "?

I handed over the licence and the lad went away and returned saying yes thats ok

I said "Is it ok to drive with that licence then ?"

He said yes it was, and he had photocopied it and put it on file

I then told him it was only a provisional licence, valid only for a year

Expired in 1971   And was for a motorbike ONLY

Its great how office staff check details in it

It also shows my first ever speeding ticket for doing over 30 mph

I liked this gothic revenge film

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSzo-F9fIbU

Brandon Lee died during a mishap on the set. A scene required a gun to be loaded, cocked, and then pointed at the camera. Because of the close-range of the shot, the bullets loaded had real brass caps, but no powder. After the cut, the props master (not the arms master - he had left the set for the day) dry-fired the gun to get the cock off, knocking an empty cartridge into the barrel of the gun. The next scene to be filmed involving that gun was the rape of Shelly. The gun was loaded with blanks (which usually contain double or triple the powder of a normal bullet to make a loud noise). Lee entered the set carrying a bag of groceries containing an explosive blood pack. The script called for Funboy (Michael Massee) to shoot Eric Draven (Lee) as he entered the room, triggering the blood pack. The cartridge that was stuck in the barrel was blasted at Lee through the bag he was carrying, killing him. The footage of his death was destroyed without being developed. Lee is the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, who died in mysterious circumstances before completing Game of Death (1978).

Thanks for all your replies

There were 3 crow films, the first being regarded as the best,

followed by "crow meets Buffy" or The Crow Wicked Prayer with David Boreanaz (Angel)

Then The Crow Salvation with wet actress Kirsten Dunst.

Wikipedis says

The true crows are large passerine birds that comprise the genus Corvus in the family Corvidae. Ranging in size from the relatively small pigeon-sized jackdaws (Eurasian and Daurian) to the Common Raven of the Holarctic region and Thick-billed Raven of the highlands of Ethiopia, the 40 or so members of this genus occur on all temperate continents (except South America) and several offshore and oceanic islands (including Hawaii).

The crow genus makes up a third of the species in the corvid family. Other corvids include rooks and jays. Crows appear to have evolved in Asia from the corvid stock, which had evolved in Australasia. A group of crows is called a "murder," though this term usually appears in poetry rather than scientific contexts.

The Little Crow (Corvus bennetti) is an Australian species of crow, very similar to the Torresian Crow in having white bases to the neck and head feathers (shown when ruffled in strong wind) but slightly smaller (42-48 cm in length) and with a proportionately smaller bill. It has the same white iris that distinguish the Australian species from all other Corvus except a few island species to the north of Australia, and one from Eurasia, the Jackdaw (Corvus monedula). Like the Australian Raven, this species usually has a blue ring around the pupil and sometimes one around the very outer edge of the white iris too.

So there are carrion crows , Rooks and Ravens and Jays

But we are not like them thieving Magpies

I'm half Raven, but my cousins completely Raven

WYSINWYG is an anagram for Wyse wing, are you part bird ?

“Wysinwyg” nanoparticles
Into the babble of conflicting and confusing terms surrounding nanotechnology, let me introduce another one: “wysinwig nanoparticles”—what-you-see-is-NOT-what-you-get nanoparticles.  It describes particles that have an annoying habit of revealing their true identity only after they have been painstakingly measured, monitored and characterized—a description that would seem to apply to most nanoparticles when it comes to assessing possible health and environmental impacts.

Notice the " babble of conflicting and confusing terms"

3 days as a Film Extra

Ok, did you know that Batman begins was filmed in Cardington hanger outside Bedford.

They wanted 1000 extras for a crowd scene, so they advertised in the local press for extras.

I went along and as I have a beard was asked to be a convict in Arkum Asylum.

I had to wear a red overall and had full make up to look scruffy,(It didnt take long )

I went on set 3 times and watched them film the fight scenes.

I met stunt batman and stand in Rachael , and was one of the mad criminals closing in on her

as the Batman dropped down and picked Rachael and the boy up into the air.

I'm the one on the left.

Nice 1 Kev

Ok     From 1999 to 2002 I was in a Hot Air Ballooning team

The MG Rover team was based near Silverstone and every 2 weeks we travelled following the MGF cup a club race around the UK

We took it in turns to fly in the basket, retrieve and rescue after the landing

We tethered during the race ,which was flying like a kite 100ft in the air held down by 3 vehicles

We flew for 3 years and thats about the life of an Envelope as wear and tear (mainly tear in our case ) can fly

We had many bumpy landings , and getting the basket out of a farmers field full of cows was an extra challenge

The last bad landing in trees did most of the damage and that was that

|The regular team was Ed, Scott, me ,the Julie and Graham another pilot for Variohm

Balooning is cool, nice one Crow.  Out of interest, how much does a hot air balloon and all the bits cost?

Title: Re: Crow Tales
Post by: The-Crow on September 19, 2008, 09:48:32 PM
The basket and tanks bits cables and stuff are about £5000

Split 4 ways is a good way to start

The licence is 2 weeks in Austria on a" crash " course to get the hours in

You need to do a test with an instructor as Pilot in charge

You start as" Pilot under training "and need all the health checks the same as a private pilot

You get  a licence  called PPL Balloon

You need to keep a log record of hours etc. record all flights and have it witnessed by another pilot

The main cost is the envelope, 90,000 cu ft or 120,000 cuft can lift 3 or 4  people

get one second hand "if you dare" see Balloons and ballooning magazine

get a sponsor like we did to buy the thing is best, they don't last long

Next a range rover or similar, a specialist trailer , a local supplier of balloon gas  and your ready to fly

10/10, impressive answering crow, very helpful to our Graham...

Cheers Crow, sounds great, what a hobby to be into.   We had a guy come in for a bit of engraving the other day from a hot air balloon club.  Something I'd like to do one day but somewhere special, over the Alps, African Plains etc

I'd love to Tractor, but it's a bit out of my price range.  I'd come along for the fun if you buy one though :D

Cambridge has reported a rainbow upside down

This is no camera trickery. It really is an upside down 'rainbow'.
Upside down rainbow

It was photographed in Cambridge by astronomer Dr Jaqueline Mitton who says she has never seen anything like it before.

When you win at online poker do you get funds transferred directly to your bank account or does the site transfer them to a third-party account for safekeeping until they are satisfied that various conditions have been met?

Captain Willy and a duck and a Larc

I met Captain Willy this week he was taking the duck to be descaled and painted up in his workshop

He did however show me the Larc a amphibious recovery craft that had two Cummins V8 diesel engines

That produce over 300 brake horse power each.

It uses over 23 gallons an hours at seas

Went to Sheringham this week to see the old Railway station , and to visit a relative

The shop is run by Mike Crowe who has the best selection of coal fire tongs , pokers, ashpans and bellows for miles around

He has the biggest range or coal scuttles I have ever seen, brass, wood, ally, and tin

Mike is thinking of retiring this year , but is sure the demand for open coal fire ironmongery

is due to take off again as it did in 1924

Ok, Poker

I have been playing proper poker about a year

We started on Sky back in March 2007 on the TV and Sky Box,
but after the first phone bill came in the wire was pulled out of the wall

After a while we missed the game and saved up for a new PC and broadband .

Me an Mrs. Crow take it in turns to play. She plays 5am to 9am I play all the rest.

That seems fair.

We play freerolls and sitngo's

I play the Open satellites and the Open if I win a seat

I play on Full tilt and Blue Square as they have good $1000 freerolls every month

Last month came 20th in a 1015 seater big bucks $$$

I have played the Sky open about 20 times and made the money about 5 times

Today I forgot the $1000  Bluesq freeroll was on , and joined it as I went out in 90th place,  ten off the money,

Played the Sky Birmingham Tour Sat and came 10th, so I got my stake back, will try again tomorrow

Sky wanted to go on the Bounty hunter last Monday , but I was on holiday

They say I can go on as a Studio Guest soon, should be a laugh

Someone said "why are you called the Crow"   Select the right answer

 1.   Because I have big Yellow feet

 2.   Because I invented " Velcro "

 3.   Because I am always getting Stoned

 4.   Because I have a pet crow

Answers on a postcard please or write a reply below

Easy

1. 6 moderators, 3 staff who also mod, tikay who mods, 2 admins not mods, one staff non mod. 13 total

2. No, we all row in when online. Some have full time jobs, some don't. Some are night owls some aren't. Forum generally covered 20+ hours of the day

3. Depends as to which moderator. See "Most time spent online" under forum stats

4.  See answer 2, its not formally decided. Some people's night shifts are other people's morning shifts, depending on their time clocks!

5. Not paid for modding, voluntary

6. Yes. See forum guidelines

7. Yes

8. Hundreds

9. Yes

10. Good question. We grew to love the place I suppose.

11. No. Well very very rarely..odd entry into a blonde bash etc

12. tikay manages the moderators, picks the team etc

13. Ask tikay. Not that I know of

How many of you are there ? who are you

About 8 or 9, I can't recall exactly.

Do you take it in turns

No, it's permanent & full-time.

How many hours a week do you work

24/7/365. If Mods plan to be absent, or Offline, they flag it up to the others in advance. First job on logging on is to go check the Mods Board, that's about half an hour on a quiet day, & anything up to 10 or 12 hours when something has gone hot.

How do you decide who does the night shift

The selecton of the Mods Team takes into account regular guys, & nocturnal souls, so as to cover all bases. Many of the "solid" Members actually act as unofficial Mods, too, & help police the place when Mods are thin on the ground.

Do you get paid ?    How much ?

No. Nothing, zero, zilch.

Do you delete bad language, how bad does it have to be

If directed at other Members, usually, yes. We don't actually approve of bad language, but it's 2008, we have many young Members, so we try & be sensible about it. But if directed at individuals, it's a no-no.

Have you ever banned anyone from the site completely

Yes. Every "Ban" results in, on average, 300 Posts on the Mods Board, as we try to rationalise it & get it right, & hours & hours of Mods Time. So we don't like Banning folks, but sometimes it has to be done.

How many people have you banned

Spammers apart (hundreds & hundreds of them), I guess we have Banned about 10 or 15 "proper" Members.

have you ever had abusive E mails or private messages from banned people

Up until recently, no, but latterly, the last few months, yes, loads & loads of them. They come via e-Mail, MSN, text, Facebook, or by Post to our Employers. Never to our face, though.

Why do you do it then ?

I don't actually know, some days. I suppose it's because many of us think this is a decent place, & to keep it decent, it takes a bit of work. There are always some community-minded folks prepared to put their shoulders to the wheel in such cases. But the recent personal attacks on the Mod Team are, shall we say, "regrettable".

How many of you are there ? who are you
1st rule, don't talk about the Mod's team.
2nd rule, don't talk about the Mod's team.

As a rule breaker I can tell you there are about 10 mods & Admin folk, + the 4 secret ninja mods.

Do you take it in turns.

Nope Kinboshi makes the tea all the time.

How many hours a week do you work

Real work - 8
Modding 20  or so

How do you decide who does the night shift

Nightowls and ninjas mainly cover the nights.

Do you get paid ?    How much ?

real work - not much
modding - less

Do you delete bad language, how bad does it have to be

Really fucking bad.

Have you ever banned anyone from the site completely

Yes

How many people have you banned

Ignoring Spam not many.

have you ever had abusive E mails or private messages from banned people

Not personally, I'm a nice Mod

Why do you do it then ?

The adrenalin rush high of acting like a power-crazy dictator follewed by the soul destroying low of everyone accusing you of acting like a power-crazed dictator.

Do you get any freebies

Apart from the porn collection, not really, the odd entry into a bB.

Can anyone volunteer to be a moderator , or do you have to be asked

The Ninjas show up and make an offer you can't refuse.

Are you looking for any one now ?

That'll be a ninja question.

24/7/365. If Mods plan to be absent, or Offline, they flag it up to the others in advance. First job on logging on is to go check the Mods Board, that's about half an hour on a quiet day, & anything up to 10 or 12 hours when something has gone hot.

How many of you are there ? who are you
A dirty dozen (or so).  Our usernames are coloured blue in the who's online list.

Do you take it in turns.
We're on flexi-time.

How many hours a week do you work
I'm on the forum about 147 hours a week.  I work far less than that.

How do you decide who does the night shift
Whoever is up railing Rookie/Moorman/Brummieboy/Eck/Trigg/Kev, etc.

Do you get paid ?    How much ?
I will be rewarded in heaven. However, I don't believe in heaven...

Do you delete bad language, how bad does it have to be
Lazy spelling and grammar is often ridiculed.

Have you ever banned anyone from the site completely
Personally no.  As a collective, yes.

How many people have you banned
A handful have been banned since I've been a mod.

have you ever had abusive E mails or private messages from banned people
I know Tighty and tikay have.  The decisions the mods make are based on a collective decision, but some people seem to vent their displeasure on individuals who they incorrectly think have made a unilateral decision based on their dislike of the person in question.

Why do you do it then ?
So I go to heaven.  Damn, I haven't thought that one through properly...

Do you get any freebies
Just gossip on the mods board.  Well worth it imo.

Can anyone volunteer to be a moderator , or do you have to be asked
You are ordained, by god.  Or was it tikay?

Are you looking for any one now ?
I'm looking for my car keys, you haven't seen them - have you?

Hellooooo Crow  :hello:

Do you take it in turns

Not really, we just jump in when we are about, every modding decision is always discussed behind the scenes by the team.

How many hours a week do you work

Too many

How do you decide who does the night shift

Whoever is awake gets the gig

Do you get paid ?    How much ?

No

Do you delete bad language, how bad does it have to be

we do delete if its directed at someone personally and is flaming

Have you ever banned anyone from the site completely

Yes

How many people have you banned

Never kept a tally sheet

have you ever had abusive E mails or private messages from banned people

Yes, plenty.  Sometimes people will spread malicious gossip about mods and staff behind their backs, those are the ones that hurt to be honest.

Why do you do it then ?

Because I love blonde, it has given me so much in terms of friendships and relationships, I also 100% agree with the ethos and spirit in which blonde was founded, and its nice to be able to do my bit

Do you get any freebies

I think we were bought into the blonde bashes on 1 or 2 occasions, other than that no.  we do get offered freebies by partners etc, but these are always offered to the members as added prizes to blonde comps etc.

My   Grandfather was a Chicken Catcher

When I was little , I went to stay with my grand parents who had a farm but had retired from farming.
He used the sheds as a workshop to built chicken crates out of 2 X 1 . I would help him bang in the nails and repair old crates.
Two or three times a week we would load up about 20 crates onto his Commer pick up and drive to a local chicken farm.

The chickens were inside large open sheds and they ran loose building nests in the straw and laying eggs. They didnt use battery hens in them days, they were free to roam but inside the covered yard

We had to chase and capture the old ones and put them in the crates about 12 in a crate, and load them up onto the pick up and drive them to the chicken plucker who got them ready for selling.

The chicken plucker was another farm with a shed and inside were ten ladies who did the plucking, washing, cleaning and getting the birds ready to sell. The local butchers would collect 'em later that day.

To catch a chicken we used a long broom handle with a hook tied on one end , and try to hook around the birds leg to pick them up.It took a lot of practise, to walk up slowly , put the hook by the chickens leg before he ran away. The hard part was lifting them up into the crate without getting pecked too bad.

How did we know which chickens were the old ones ?

We could not catch the young ones , they were too quick.

Grandad also was a turkey catcher, same way but with a bigger hook, and only around Christmas time. I never went Turkey catching with grandad . I was too small.

When my friends went to stay with their grandparents ,they went fishing, walking and trips out to the park, I think mine were more fun.

This may explain why I have a pet Crow

Title: Re: Crow Tales
Post by: The-Crow on September 30, 2008, 02:49:27 PM
Grandad's favorite story was that he once went a farm that had bred a 4 legged chickens

As he drove up to the farm a chicken shot past his pick up at high speed like a greyhound

When he got to the farm ,he asked the farmer why he had bred 4 legged chickens.

He said he had 4 children and they all liked the drumstick at dinner time, so this was the answer.

I asked my grandad what they tasted like, he said "I don't know ,I never managed to catch one. They were too fast."

I have neglected my tales for a few days , so I must put that right.

People have asked about Mrs.Crow and I have not talked about her before as she is shy.

When I first met her and looked into those big blue Eyes,I knew she was someone special for me

Its strange how you know only after a few days that this is the one.

Her Blonde hair was longer then , but now we have baby Crow  and our family is complete

Here are a few family shots from the Album

Me and Baby crow have been out together a few times, quite recently to Luton

Baby Crow made friends straight away with flushy, and stayed out later than he should,

but he learned a lot about poker that night

He seems alright now though

There was nearly a bit of a flap on at Luton as Flushy pushed "All in" but did not see baby crow was sitting on a few chips

Luckily he won the hand, but if he had lost, and stood up, there would have been a few chips left on the table

What is the ruling then, does he sit down and play out the last few chips or hand them over ,

As it was late,    Crow and thecrowman  went to  The Crows Nest to see Granny Crow.

It had been a while , since we had bin to see Granny. After tea and custard creams we had to say hello to our Pet Emu .

He had been a family pet for many years , and after he died , we had him stuffed

Crow was very pleased to see his old pal again and they got on really well, just like old times.

A Crow goes Shopping  Part 1

As usual I took Mrs. Crow and little Crow to Milton Keynes for a look around. I arrange to meet up after about 2 hours as she gets embarrassed when I start talking to complete strangers ........ trying to get an "On the spot Interview"

A new stall had set up in the middle of the aisles to sell cosmetics made from natural products  from the sea.

The brave young salesman approached and said "Can I ask you a question Sir"

Feeling chatty I said "OK"

"Is there anybody really important in your life"

"Well I have this pet Crow"

He went blank for a few moments but decided to continue his script

Please look at our extensive range of sea products, Is there anything there that I may help you with "

"Have you got anything for "Crows Feet " I said

Again a blank look , and he backed away

Crow meets World Champion Slot racer  Brian Saunders

All this week Milton Keynes is hosting the Annual World Championship Slot Car Racing Competition

Teams from 14 countries including USA and Russia are competing on the 50m track built for the event in Middleton Hall

The Teams are given workstations to prepare and tune their cars, and use high tech circuitry to adjust and monitor the cars.

The teams must race for 3 minutes on all of the 8 tracks , and the best racers go forward to the next round.

Today and tomorrow are practice days with the main Heats starting on Monday.

The Event Organiser is last years World Champion Brian Saunders , who chatted for half an hour to me explaining how things are done

The cars are rebuilt after each practice session to improve handling and performance

The old Scalextric cars ran at half an amp , but these high tech cars run at 20 amps or more

The engines rev to 24,000 revs and have a scale speed of 200 mph

There are 3 classes that race Formula 1 ,  ES 32 and ES 24

What is the penalty when your car comes off its slot?

Re slot car racing

I think they only count the best run traveled in  3 minutes

So if a car comes off, they scrap that run and try again. They take the best run of many heats

I don't know if they race grand prix style in the final and cars that come off are out

I guess its all against he clock, and the fastest car travels the longest distance , they cut the power after 3 minutes and measure the distance each car has traveled

I will ask Brian on Thursday, the finals this week end

Just rescued this old tale from the archive         Crow stuck in a tree

Published: 17 Jul 2008

A MASSIVE rescue operation was launched after a bird got stuck in a TREE.

Clinton the crow was left dangling upside down for three days after getting tangled up in his own nest.

He was finally rescued by a team of SEVEN firefighters using a fire engine and an aerial platform.

They eventually lifted him to safety after working on him for more than an HOUR.

Resident Danny Coles, 39, said: "It's a bit ironic that a bird had to be rescued from a tree.

"It must have taken the firemen at least an hour to get him down and quite a crowd gathered to watch."

The crow, nicknamed Clinton after the road in Northampton where he lives, had got his foot caught in a piece of string used to line his nest.

RSPCA officers, who also helped with the rescue, believe he had been dangling for at least three days because he was so weak and thin.

Crew manager Shaun O'Neill, from Mereway fire station in Northampton, said: "He was in a very precarious position ten metres up in the tree and it wasn't safe to use a ladder to rescue him."

The crow, who was exhausted and dehydrated, was taken to St Tiggywinkle's Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire. He is now recovering from his ordeal.

Gary Oldman is ace as the baddy demonstrating the ultimate assault rifle

found an old poker report from 2005

Trip Report in Poker magazine
Cavendish Classic 2005
Paul "Actionjack" Jackson
26 Apr 2005

A few faces were there including Julian Thew (is older than he looks), Tony Kendall (is as old as he looks) and Carlo Citrone (nice suntan). When we arrived at the club we see a satellite for the main event with 3 left including Julian Thew and his granddad Tony Kendall. Naturally it was assumed a certain amount of soft play might occur, on the basis that if Julian was too rough his granddad might not take him to the park to feed the ducks, but consistent with his normal straight playing when old granddad went all in Julian called him with J 3 off suit and knocked him out. Tony walked off looking for his pipe and slippers muttering J3 off suit to himself and something about ducks, or at least it sounded like ducks.

The Loss of C B Radio

Before the internet got going and there were no such things as E mails, the only way pals could chat was on the radio, or the telephone.

In the early 1980's the English CB band was 20 channels around 27.800 Mhz, from 27.600 up to nearly 28.000Mhz

Anyone over 18 could pay 15 pounds for a Licence to transmit and receive. About this time , hand held CB sets became available from

any good Radio shack ,like Tandy, even Argos sold them. Home Bases were much rarer, and a valued items.

Soon the channels were flooded with teenagers playing music all day, thinking they were a music radio station.

The calling channel was 19, where "Breakers" could make contact with a pal and "Take it "to a new channel for a quiet chat

Radio Clubs started and members met up once a month for a social Bash at their local Social Club

I was a member of Hotel Bravo in Bedfordshire, and we met at Marston Mortaine Social Club

There were many "Characters" on the air and friendships were soon made .

We all had nicknames , like blonde members do now,"Metal Micky, Lovely lady, Aquarius,Bass man Paul"

There was another set of channels called Mid-Block from 27.400 down to 26.800 Mhz

These picked up European CB and did not speak in English

In between these 2 Legal bands were The "sidebanders".

CB used a continuous carrier wave and the speech was added as modulation to the frequency (FM) or much earlier to the amplitude (AM)

Most of the power needed was in making a strong carrier wave.

Side band did not use a carrier wave , they only transmitted the speech part , using far less power

so if you did not speak there was no signal.

This was and still is illegal in UK as the signal is so strong it can interfere with TV signals

The most popular sideband club was Alpha Tango, and every Sunday they would hold contests to get as many contacts as possible

they overlapped the English CB channels and often blanked out our local signals

CB transmitted at 0.5 or 2 watts maximum allowed, the sidebanders used 100 watt boosters

During certain conditions the CB signals would skip between cloud layers and you could pick up people from all over the country

It needed v hot high pressure weather systems, and only worked during the day to work on CB

Sideband however used the upper layers of air and signals would skip all the time.

I "borrowed "a friends sideband set once or twice and made contact with many countries

They sent me a card called a QSL card recording the chat and the signal strength, time and date of contact

I have cards from USA east coast, and from mid Russia in the Urals where the high mountains get out a good signal

Some people had cards from Canada, and even Australia the furthest of all

Every Club had a post office box number to give over the air to the other countries

The club sec picked up the cards once a week from the main Post office

The arrival of the internet killed most of this off

Chat rooms and YouTube have taken over

A PC also gives off a strong signal that blankets out CB signals

So if anyone remembers a CB breaker called "Crazy Tony" who spoke in a very dodgy Italian accent

Please drop me a line

"Kill a crow, Save a duck".

"I love the smell of watermelons in the morning"      Acrowpalypse  Now

Having said all this, I believe the crow deserves our admiration and should be considered more than just a nuisance bird by hunters. The crow is the most intelligent of all birds in North America. As such, they can be a challenging and worthy adversary that, kept under control, are a welcome part of nature's complex tapestry. Based on the outcome of man/crow conflicts throughout history, the crow will no doubt continue to be a source of many frustrating hours afield for those of us who call ourselves "Crow Hunters".

Was watching the news channels last night and found CNBC news at 1am last night

They were showing The British Open Poker Tour from 2006

Devilfish was playing heads up against Mark Goodwin and was pulling ahead slowly

Then Devilfish made a big raise with  Kh Jh and Goodwin called

After the flop Dave went again and mark pushed, he had pocket Aces

this changed the chip stacks completely and Dave tried but could not recover the lead

Mark went on to win

I did not know CNBC were showing poker , will look again

Attempts to make the worlds largest sandwich were halted , when on lookers started to eat the sandwich before it was measured

Iran failed Friday to register what it said would be the world's largest sandwich in the Guinness book of World Records after people rushed forward to scoff on the tasty treat

An Iranian cook waits to prepare a 1,500-metre-long sandwich See picture

Event organisers had planned to stuff the 1,500-metre-long sandwich with 700 kg of ostrich meat and 700 kg of chicken, and display it in a park in the capital Tehran.

But as the sandwich was being measured, chaos ensued. The giant snack was gone in minutes, a Reuters witness said, leaving the three Guinness representatives present with a dilemma.            (So thats where Snatty has gone)

One of the event's organisers said video footage of the sandwich would be sent to Guinness officials.

"We still think the sandwich will be recorded in the Guinness book because of all the evidence and footage that we will send them," Parvin Shariati said.

Just heard that it will however, be recorded in the Guinness Book of Sandwiches

Tonight its Gus (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=564) Hansen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=564) at the Aussie Millions in 2007, plus interviews with all the other players. I think this was the tourney where Gus recorded the hand by hand report into a Dictaphone and it was printed this year "Gus plays the Aussie Millions "

Ok , there a new type of open fire on the market this week.

I went to a  house Ideas exhibition, and these fires look like real flames.

The first is made by injecting water on to a warm element that vaporizes into mist, It looked like a dry ice effect, but it works with a small tank of water inside the fire. The light is from 3 halogen spot bulbs with a yellow filter. The mist rises in wispy patterns and flickers like a real flame

The second is a prototype not to be released until  1st November and is inside a glass case v strange, because it does not get hot.

The halogen bulbs are the new cold running LCD type

A word of advice about Rhinoceroses

I worked in London Zoo for 6 months for a builder repairing the old roofs and felt work.

Every day I walked past the rhino field and 1 old rhino stood by the wall and I went over and rubbed his nose

But one day I leant over the wall and he brought his head up and his horn knocked my glasses off. Another inch and I may have lost an Eye.

The moral is make sure they have not moved your rhino m8 into another field before you pat his nose

Last week I went to see the Puppet Company, who design and make toy Crows and other birds.

Peter and Sue Lockey started making puppets at home for their children and then sold them at Craft shows and music festivals.

They had seen my Crow on TV and were very happy Crow was getting popular.

I asked if I they had  any performing right restrictions

They said I was OK  and a gave me  written permission to use crow on TV

They run puppetsbypost.com as well as the Puppet Company

Its been an amazing day for luck.

Not only do I get a Royal flush, but I came 2nd in the Primo Rapide twice in one day

Its a 30p to enter, winner takes all,  1 minute blind,  all in race, and how I got to 2nd is a mystery

The whole tourney lasts about ten minutes, and in the 2nd game , I forgot it was on and joined the game 2 minutes from the end.

I still managed to get to the final table, and got to heads up, with the blinds putting me all in every time.

As usual all good things come to an end , an I missed the 55 pound seat by one

                                                           Doyle Brunson's Super System

Written in 1978, this book has been the bible for poker players for nearly 30 years.

The book tells the life story of Doyle and his family and gives details of his way to play stud, pot limit and limit hold'em

The short section on No limit hold'em starts about page 430, and he suggests the way to play pocket aces and kings is to limp in

in early and middle position, but put in a raise in late position.

He says he would prefer to have Ace King as he can make a flush if its suited or a straight, as well as all the pair and trip combinations

It has many comments by well known players of the day.He says don't play if you tired , or have been drinking, or are feeling emotional

The main advise is to watch the other players every move and spot tells.

Please add your thoughts on this book , it is a bit out of date now, but many ideas are still good

                                                                Super System 2

Written in 2005, Doyle repeats much of the advise he gave in the first book.

It has many comments from the new players of the last ten years,

but the section on No-Limit poker starts at page 520 and repeats the same 20 pages from his first book

At 35 pounds its a bit dearer than most

Anyone read it completely , please add more details here

It covers in depth, poker odds, value bets. implied odds, math calculations, statistics, you name it,  its got it

You may prefer to rely on poker instinct, but if you like to study , this is the one

Sky Tour at The Broadway Casino Birmingham

The day at the Broadway started with a search for the car park.Having printed off a multimap street finder,

I thought it would be easy to turn off the ring road and into the Broadway Plaza.

I drove round in a circle twice until I found the right turn, but the underground multi story was right by the plaza and casino.

Having parked,  the escalator takes you up to the Casino Entrance. Opposite the casino there is a Dragon Bar, Chinese, serve yourself

and Broadway members get a free meal at midnight every fortnight, next ones 16th November, form a queue.

Having joined on line , they had said" just show your ID when you arrive", but I still had to fill all the forms in again, as usual.

She said "you have to leave your bag here Sir", I told her, I need the bag inside the Casino, and she said "Whats in the bag Sir "

When I told her It was a bag of "Crows" she went quiet and said she would have to call the manager

After a while he appeared and I pulled the Crow, little crow and Mrs.Crow out of the bag

"Never seen one of those in a casino before" they said

After a bit more caawwing they agreed to let me in.

The match had already started, and I headed for the card room.

About 9 players had not arrived , so they had their cards dealt out at the table and the blinds put in.they did not have a reserve list.

So on one table there were 2 empty seats, that seemed to make it easy for the others on that table.

Norman Pace was an early casualty and he started a play the presenter sit n go.

As I was not in the main tourny,I got my name on the list and we soon sat down to play a ten seater 10 pound plus 1 freezeout

Played another with Tim Peters on the table and sat next to Karlluke a nice lady called Tina.

Later we watched a  sitngo with most of the Sky team, and when they started another Tina and Crow join too

There was me ,Tina, flea, and 2 others, against Tim Peters, Norman Pace,Michelle Orpe,Richard Orford, and another sky guy

I came 4th,  and the heads up was between Norman and Richard who had played v well in the main match, lasting over 3 hours.

Tikay had no time to play any poker as he was the anchor for the night, and never had a minute following the main event.

Norman did a few links outside the Casino, and Tim did some player interviews, but Tikay seemed to be running the show on his own.

Ok well done to Peter Eastgate for winning the WSOP

- A 22-year-old Danish poker professional won the World Series of Poker early Tuesday, turning a wheel straight on the last hand to become the youngest champion in the history of the no-limit Texas Hold ’em main event.

Peter Eastgate hit an ace-to-five straight on the turn and instantly called an all-in bet from Ivan Demidov on the river to win the title and $9,152,416. Demidov held two pair, twos and fours.

                                   Crow goes shopping in Stevenage

The old high Street in Stevenage is too narrow for cars , so an extra road was built for modern cars.

The Old pub , now thinks it is a bank, but it still looks like a pub from the outside.

Inside it has low timbered ceilings and small rooms, and still looks like a pub.

The cash machine spoils the old world look of the street, but the sign writer forgot to finish his pavement warning,

leaving visitors puzzled as to what "Cash machine's are....for ?"

A well known Poker TV channel  had a spot prize competition on yesterday, and the question was ,

Who do  think  our presenters are look-a-like's of.    Send in an E mail .

I sent in for Paul Musselle,....  Russell Crowe, Zippy from Rainbow and the dog from the Churchill adverts

For Mark Banin ..... Count Dracula, Side show Bob, and Davey Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean

I was lucky enough to win a spot prize for the Sunday show tonight.

Got an E mail that said "Congratulations!

For winning a Spot Prize on the 22nd November 2008 you have been given free entry into the Sunday Open on the 23rd November. You've been automatically registered for this tournament so please make sure you're available to play."

                                                            Words of Crow Wisdom

I have an impressive bank of knowledge and experience,

but I have lost the combination of the safe

Despite the high cost of living,it still remains popular

All my favorite memories are in the past

I've forgotten more than I've ever learned

Youth passes, but immaturity can last a lifetime

More words of crow wisdom tomorrow

OK                                more Words of Crow Wisdom

I'm not over the hill, I don't remember being on top of it

Its hard to be nostalgic, when you can't remember anything

Age is a high price to pay for maturity

If you think there's good in everybody, you haven't met everybody

and finally   Mickey Mouse has started wearing a Gordon Brown watch

Nursery Rhymes are very cruel, what with birds baked in a pie,

there's cutting blind mice's tails off with a carving knife,

sheep getting lost, eggs falling off walls,

owl and a cat left to drift out to sea in a boat, no coastguards then

They should be X rated, not suitable for little children,

I was scared of the bogie man for years

and that chap who puts sand in your eyes, needs locking up

     todays its                                                     2008 memories

I joined Blonde on 8th August 2008, and have had a great time interviewing players by PM and in the chat box on line

Thanks to all who sent replies back, and sorry to Tikay about the sausage question.

Did you know it was Longy who first asked the sausage question

Re: Crow Tales
« Reply #273 on: October 20, 2008, 12:31:48 AM »from Longy
   Reply with quote
I can see it now.

Crow interviews Tikay about his retirement from poker.

Crow > So why did you retire from poker, Tikay? Was it all the commitments with Skypoker, Blonde, APAT, addiction to service Station coffee, never sleeping etc.

Tikay> Well in fact it was all these interviews, with you Crow. I just didn't have time for anything else in my life.

Crow> Err ok Tikay, what is you favourite type of Sausage?

Tikay> Right Crow i am off round the west coast of scotland, you don't have my phone number do you.

Crow > Err no

Tikay > Good.

Best live interview was "Tikay and a tank top". Please note, I only printed what others were saying, it was not me who said it

Best live poker was at Luton for the APAT pro am ,where I first met Blonde pals, like Ding and Flushy

Here was tikays first try at talking to Crow , great moment

Best pictures are posted below

Wishing all Blondes a happy new year

bye for now

Or is it a Crow?

Apparently, having a bird on her head keeps the pidgeons away

Crow went to Olney Yesterday to watch the Pancake Race

You may not know there are 3 races.

The first race at 11.50am   is a false start for the TV cameras, the runners pretend to start and run for only 20m

The second race at 11.55am is the TV crews and camera men racing up the track to the finish line to film the end

This is the most popular part and gets cheers and claps from the crowd as they struggle with tripods, long lenses and steps

The third race is the real race at 12.00 noon,  but the start  is not shown on Tv,

as all the cameramen and crew are waiting  at the finish line by the Church

Our local paper showed a picture of an early aircraft trainer, used up at our airfield until recently

The Somers-Kendall or SK1 is an experimental plane was built in the early 1950s it was single seat, no wheels (landed on water or grass). : Power was by a small jet engine located behind the pilot with intakes on both sides. exhaust was thru the V-tail on top of the fuesage.  It's primary mission was to provide low level reconninance over Japan's rice paddies which cover thousands of square miles. It's water cabability allowed landing in the paddies without rice damage, check out suspested activity , and depart with a water take off run of few hundred feet.

Having no wheels it was hard to land and take off, so students had to carry it along the runway and run v fast untill it flew

Landing was a bit harder and bumpier, no one was willing to try and catch it.

Ok, the snow is gone , but here are my best pictures of Snowbears and one snowpig

More about Watchmen

The music on the trailer is by The Smashing Pumpkins.

The track is "the Beginning is the End of the Beginning"  see Youtube for variations

Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are
And Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
Now all secrets fade
We can watch the world devoured in its pain

The Other music is by Philip Glass his "Prophecy" track

Its the same as the music from Grand Theft Auto 4

The film is set in the 1980's when the cold war with Russia was still on,the book says the watchmen have retired but some are being killed off.

The blue guy is Dr. Manhattan who experimented with matter in 1950  and blew himself to bits in his lab by mistake.

Years later he pulled himself together and returned to Earth, able to control molecules at will

The girl in Yellow is Silk Spectre 2  , her mum was Silk Spectre 1

Have to disagree, almost to the point of violence.
It was a lot of shite, completely massacred the ending.

The Eggheads were beaten on Tuesday by the Question " How wide is the face of Big Ben"

It was 3 against 3 in the final round, and the eggheads  were Daphne,Judith and the new guy

The challengers went first and got all first 3 questions right, so it was up to the eggheads to catch up for the tie break questions

They had 3 answers, A. 3m in diameter   B. 7m in diameter  or  C. 11m in diameter

Judith said 3m was as long as the table they were sitting at, so that was quite wide.

They all thought 7m or 11m was too big.

They chose 3m , they were wrong, its 7m

People that brainy seem to lack common sense

Yesterdays quiz was a trick question as Tigers nest is a monastery in Bhutan.

Did you get it.

Upon arrival in Paro, we visited Bhutan with a hike to the magical monastery known as Taktsang (the “Tiger’s Nest). Taktsang is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan World. The monastery itself is perched on a granite cliff that drops 2,000 feet to the valley floor. The name is derived from a legend that Guru Rinpoche flew across the mountains to this spot on the back of a tigress,

Its a great place for a weekend break, but the only way in, is to be pulled up in a basket on a long rope , very scary

I have just booked up a trip to Seattle and amongst other things I will be going here:

The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (SFM) is the world's first museum devoted to the thought-provoking ideas and experiences of science fiction. SFM’s exhibitions promote awareness and appreciation of science fiction literature and media while encouraging visitors to envision new futures for humanity. In the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, the museum pays homage to the most respected of science fiction practitioners—writers, artists, publishers and filmmakers.

Ok, I worked for Beds Highways as an engineer for many Years

It was part of my job to close roads to have them resurfaced

I must have closed half the roads in bedfordshire during my time there

I came across many road signs that seemed wrong

heres a few

People in Luton need to be told what a green light is for

OK , We went on a shopping trip to Bicester last week and found this retail park made to look like a USA mid west village

We started at Carluccio's Coffee and pasta shop, having been refreshed, we split up to explore the 120 designer outlets

First was Vivienne Westwoods , where you can buy a large spotty bag for only £550 .

Then D and G for a pair of shoes and a bag for even more

In Church's the hand made leather shoe shop, a nice pair of brown shoes was reduced to £295, v nice

Feeling peckish I went into Pringles of Scotland, only no tubes of salt and vinegar here, just some wooly old jackets

Eventually ended up in a shop called BOSE.

They have a 50 seat sound theatre were you can marvel at their tiny plastic speakers

that sound almost as good as my car radio in my 15 year old Mondeo

Having survived the presentation, I could buy the basic 2 speaker system for only £1700

When I asked how I fix the little 2 inch speakers to a wall, he said they could supply the wall brackets

But they were an Extra

Left quickly

Its a long way all round , but well worth a visit if you have £5000 in spare cash

Ok Its time for an Interview,,    I've saved the best till last     GREEKSTEIN

How long have you been playing poker?

Since I was about 7 I played greek card games but didn't start playing for money til I was 11 or 12. Dad picked me up from school on a day off once and while he popped out I took over for him at the pub in a brag game with my uncles. I won and had that dangerous first taste.

So why are you called GreekStein

I look like a Jew (sigh, noseaments) and an often unshaven with a beard like Barry Greenstein. Hence GreekStein.

Which sites do you play on

Blondepoker, VC, full tilt, Boylepoker, ipoker skins basically but blonde now is 95% of my play.

Had any big wins this year

Not that big, I'm due though... Chopped the £200 at the Vic for about £4.5k and had several weekends where I've spun up £1-4k playing cash. [  ] Sure still have that money. [ X ] Have had an equal amount of spin downs.

Do you play every day

If possible, its what us degens do. I don't get it when people complain about poker. I F***ing love it.

Where did you go on holiday this year

Not been on holiday yet this year, hoping to go Skiiing to Canada at Christmas but only cos thats where the lads want. I prefer the idea of somewhere hot, beach etc.

Goin to Ireland with Amatay, StuHopkin, Evilpie, Kinboshi and co in about 3 weeks. Can't wait for that bad boy!

Whats your favorite  colour  car

All depends on the car. I want a big black landrover to make me feel better about having a small penis.

Ever played a Poker Pro, like Aces or Devilfish

Played in a cash game with Aces yeah. Played against Thewy, Greekfish, Ross Boatman, Romanello and then some sports people like Shane Warne, Dimitri Mascarenhas & Roy Carroll. Tony 'Tikay' Kendall knocked me out of a tournament the one and only time I played against him before I knew who he was. He decided to call my all in holding A-Q on a Q-10-10 board when I had the mighty 4-4. Fish.

Whats your favorite Sausage; Cumberland, Irish, Spicy or Pork and Apple

Much prefer a Chicken Tikay Massala.

Does your other half play poker

Sick rubdown.

Can I print this on the Blonde web site

Should be fine, I'll ask my agent.

Thanks
