I agree, Palacios should have been sent off early. I think you should write to the FA and demand to have the game replayed. Title: Re: Football, Football and Football Post by: Colchester Kev on April 25, 2009, 09:07:04 PM To be honest Ralph, the game was meaningless as far as Spurs are concerned, however if the Goons were challenging Utd for the title, I am sure you would have been as incensed at that display of refereeing as much as every Spurs fan and Liverpool fan in the country.
Scholes should have been sent of 2 mins after coming on ... made 3 clear bookable challenges, but only collected his booking after the 3rd foul in 2 mins. too many appalling wrong decisions. Like '99 we keep giving our opponents hope and then coming back. With or without the penalty we were never losing that match. Referee made a season defining decision, and he got it completely wrong. Title: Re: Football, Football and Football Post by: Maxriddles on April 26, 2009, 10:23:46 AM Just saw this for the first time and I'm a complete neutral, I have no love for either team. The keeper makes no contact with the ball and the player gets a touch then goes down. Quite often this results in a penalty regardless of who is involved. Suggestions of cheating by the referee here are ridiculous.
Title: Re: Football, Football and Football Post by: amcgrath1uk on April 26, 2009, 10:27:00 AM I'm as anti Man U as you can be, and my first thought was penalty. Knew Carrick had got to the ball 1st, so understand why the penalty was given.

Knew Carrick had got to the ball 1st, so understand why the penalty was given. Really? My first instinct was no pen. yeh i agree. Its obv changed everything and would have loved to see Man Utd lose, as its makes the title so much more fun for the neutral. Even better with relegation battle as it is too. Woulda enjoyed it going down to final last game or 2. The penalty/non penatly could have obv gone either way, but it DID change the game no doubt about it. Spurs were fighting before that, after that they just lost heart and fell apart completely. Having seen it again a few times the ref gets it wrong, but given his positioning and with one opportunity to see it in real time I can see how he could give it, I still think this sort of decision is given up and down the country every week, or not given when there is a genuine pen in a similar situation. I suppose it's just a form of variance. The only way to stop this kind of award is a video ref to check when a penalty is awarded.
