Just a guess but maybe they have ambitions to be more than dtd dealers on what I understand to be a relatively low wage?

From what I understand the promotion prospects at dtd aren't exactly fantastic and the dealers aren't allowed to do any freelance work to earn any extra money at festivals.

If they leave they can work at festivals (of which there are more and more of these days) and also come back to work festival weekends at DTD after their 6 month cooling off period.

Yeah, I see your point, maybe the mgrs at D2D should be more flexible and allow then time out if booked as holidays so they can plan to attend some of the higher paying festivals.

I also think some of the guys get fed up of being treated like cattle fodder!

DTD train their dealers to a very high standard so I can kind of understand them not wanting to let them leave and work elsewhere.

At the same time, dealers don't earn a huge deal so I can understand them wanting to take festival work on too.

I don't know if I was ever considered one of the 'good' dealers, but I left recently and am good friends with most of the others that have.

Personally, it wasn't really DTD that made me leave. I left to deal elsewhere for personal reasons and as stated, better promotion prospects. That's just the way it is. Alot of mates have left because they're going home or wish to progress to a different career.

Alot of the older dealers have left, I know Russel left to travel, Toby has gone home.

Obviously I'd be a liar if I said there wasn't a few reasons that ran throughout, but these reasons have been made very clear by everyone and I'm pretty sure the management know about these. Wether they choose to take notice is their choice, but if it's come noticeable to you guys there's alot of absences, maybe it's time to start listening ;).

As for the newer dealers, they're still trained to the same standard as the rest of us. Dealing takes practice to become effortless and I'm sure you won't even notice soon :P. There are alot of newer dealers lately due to the amount leaving, so they will be alot weaker, but they're all good dealers, they just need practice.

If you hang around DTD long enough you'll soon hear a lot of talk along the lines of "OMG! Some staff have left! The sky has fallen! etc. etc." I remember sitting next to a ex-dealer who was playing the Super 50 who was saying stuff like "Oh, it's all going wrong, just look at the number of staff who are leaving, management are terrible etc."

In my opinion, dealing cards is a crappy, minimum wage McJob, and like all other McJobs, it's going to attract a lot of young folk who are going to do the job to fill in for a bit whilst they try and sort out what their "Plan A" for their life is, or fill in during holidays and so on. Just like flipping burgers or stacking shelves in a supermarket, I think high staff turnover is to be expected really.

And as other folk have pointed out, there is a clear path to move on to better things if they want to deal as a career. If I was wanting to get into dealing, I'd apply to DTD, get trained (excellently), get 6 months experience, then try and move on to contract dealing (what ever it's called). Dealing cards could take you round the world if you get it right.

its a real shame that dealing over here is not the careeer job it can be in the states where good dealers all earn $1500 a week easy. this is because our sh1te gambling commission in uk treat rake as casino gross profit not as service charge hence we pay up to £10 for a hand to be dealt rather than $4 max (£2.70) and a buck tip.

and now blatch is fekked even less tips at dtd... he was always a good tipper.

I wasn't aware of this, but seeing as you mentioned it I had to look up how long the gestation period of the Bactrian Camel is.  12-15 months apparently.  Dromedary's gestation period is 12-13 months.  Just adding that for completeness, don't get the hump.

Lots of good dealers at DTD.  Some of the newer ones are really good, even though they're still learning.  I like the dealers who can smile and have a laugh with the players, as well as keeping the game going.  On the whole, the dealers are a lot more pleasant than the punters.

Been dealing for years. He also used to play cash almost nightly at the Gutshot back in the day. Not sure about now seeing as I don't play live much at all.

He had a heart attack a few years back but you wouldn't know it. You couldn't tell by the way he deals though - wants to keep the game at as fast a pace as possible. Just one of the old school who works hard.

"Having a pop ?"

No, simply providing clarification re the original post that a particular barperson did not leave of his own volition, plainly my view of him is different but that's based on my observations of him & his attitude towards other customers plus the stories I have been told.

*Shrug*

Mr Russel, he was not miserable to me or Helen in our dealings at the bar but thanks for your input.

Top man. Takes no shit from anyone.

Very dry sense of humour bordering on seeming like a miserable git but if you know how to get on with him he's great.

Bit like a young version of BAM I suppose.

Ah know who you mean now the guy would be in his late forties, early fifties yeah?

Sigh why does everyone have me pegged for old and miserable.

For the record: -

I'm younger than Greekstein

and happier than george2loose on a chuckling fit

Thank You

xx

There's a comedian on the telly who reminds me of BAM.  Just wish I could remember his name.  Anyway, proof that even grumpy looking sorts can be funny.   ;)

presume you've tried googling.

this is the first site that comes up - don't know if you're contacted them, but looks like it's free to register yourself as a dealer on there

Step 1- play poker tournament
Step 2- ask a dealer who doesn't seem to be a regular where you are playing
Step 3- profit.

Speak to one of the blowins at Dusk Till Dawn. I believe you need 2 years dealing experience, but if you know people in the buisness, its easy as pie to get in.

Shaun the barman is one of the nicest people Iv met around Dusk Till Dawn. He left, as has been mentioned, with Charlotte for the baby. He was always an absolute pleasure to work with and have always considered him a friend as well as a work acquantance. Id be lying if I didnt say he has a very dry and select sense of humour, but he is a really nice guy

Sigh.

Why do you talk like you're on black and white telly ?
