Title: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Trade-King on July 01, 2010, 03:02:59 PM Thought I'd start this thread to keep people up to date. Add your own if you see them first, or ones that have already happened.
Obviously yesterday, David Villa to Man City, and today, Martin Petrov from Man City To Bolton. My thoughts, a good winger/forward for an average winger who can score the odd spectacular goal. Not Sure Bolton will get value for money. He also got Robbie Blake on a free from Burnley. Also EFC have made youth their priority by the looks of it, Magaye Gueye, French under 21 International and Joa Silva Portugeese Under 21 international, Along with Beckford 26, It should not be long before Yakubu and Saha(depending on fitness) are shown the door. Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: kinboshi on July 01, 2010, 04:00:31 PM I'd like to see Joke Hole at Liverpool. We don't have much to sign players with, so although his wages will be pretty high, there's no fee for signing him.
Still got a few years in the premiership left in him, and what we need on the left and as cover for up front. Looks like there are a few after him though. Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: scotty2hatty on July 01, 2010, 07:02:58 PM Raul to Blackburnnnnnnnnn

I expect and hope this is us dipping our toes into the water, with a splash or two to come later. I'd like to see 2/3 of Schweinsteiger/Kaka/Ozil/Rodwell/Van der Vaart/Mata/Hernandez/Robinho/Torres/Higuain/Aguero/Pato come in. Yes i'm serious.Joe Cole was seen as a squad player by the club but he saw himself as a player who should always start, not a good combination.Benayoun will be coming in as a squad player and will know that is what he is. Of all the players mentioned only Kaka and Higuain are at more competitive clubs than Chelsea(Van de Vaart but he rarely gets a game and is widely expected to leave anyway),even that could be argued based on Champions League perfomances over the last 7 year or so,but of course Real Madrid are Real Madrid.Kaka more so than Higuain might become available depending on how Mourinho wants to shape the squad/side. Apart from thse two you're really showing yourself and your lack of knowledge up if you think any of them are at clubs in a better position than Chelsea. Pretty amazing signing, cant see the 10/1 on them for the Championship lasting much longer after this signal of intent from Steve Gibson. Bayern are a big, big club and probably bigger than Chelsea ATM. He is obviously also one of the main men there so why he would move to Chelsea is beyong me. None of the three coming down are going to be doing a Newcastle/West Brom
Boro/Forest for me. A lot of price moving changes likely eg we are rumoured to be getting a lot of Far East investment as part of a Mandaric sell out can see Leeds/Sheff U/Cardiff/QPR all being up there too Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Herbie H on July 07, 2010, 02:46:47 PM D. D.Kitson A. Keogh Cardiff won't have a side hardly let alone mount a challenge, Rumour has it D Jones has walked out today as well. Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Murph1984 on July 07, 2010, 10:13:04 PM It's going to be a fascinating season for sure.
Boyd is an unbelievable signing but i'm waiting for Boro to strengthen their defence. Leeds signed Neil Collins, which imo is a very shrewd signing. I also like the shape of the side Aidy Boothroyd is forming at Coventry, might be decent dark horses. Will get shed loads against the bottom half of the division, and will be top 3 goalscorer in the league I reckon Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Murph1984 on July 11, 2010, 02:50:10 PM I actually think Boyd is going to tear it up.
If Boro sign some width before the season starts I wouldn't be suprised to see him finish the season nearer 30 than 20 if he stays fit. I was chancing my arm with Dave yesterday tbh :D Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Hairydude on July 11, 2010, 04:08:19 PM Do you not think you would get better odds than evens in a bookies for him to score 16+..... Hopefully not long until all the markets are fully up and running once the WC wraps up tonight. Not sure where the money is coming from given we are pretty much broke, but at least we are signing young players on a permanent basis rather than washed Premiership stars on loan on big wages.

[ ] Yea, cos he is really good at scoring goals against half decent teams lol good SPL Player against Killie, Dundee Utd and Aberdeen etc, outside those type of teams.......no chance. Just look at his scoring record against us (1 goal in 20+ games), or in Europe (3 goals in 19 games) He also wont like playing along side Scott McDonald, as with his height, he will be the one holding the ball up for Scott I'm in 2 minds about boyd leaving...was never a great fan and make no mistake he wasn't a great player but he is a good goalscorer but like you say didn't score much in Europe or against Celtic but outwith that he scored a barrowload which is your bread and butter no? If we didnt have him last season the championship would have been a lot closer I actually think he'll flourish in the championship...just like a lot of the fringe old firm players have done in recent years...its more his level than the premiership I agree with this. The guy is a goalscorer and thats about it. He struggles against decent oppo because there are no surprises with Boyd, they know exactly the positions he will take up, he has no pace and very little game intelligence and isn't the best at holding the ball up and bringing others into the play. Kenny Miller is a bigger danger because of pace and movement. Anyone who thinks he's incred simply hasn't seen him play very often. Will still score 20 odd in the Championship, as Hairy says, thats more his level, ffs Charlie Adam was a superstar in that league! Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Teacake on July 15, 2010, 08:10:47 PM Kevin Thomson going to Borough as well? Borough buying up the SPL? Thomson is a far better player to have than Boyd outside the SPL, by a long shot. Thomson is a good/decent player. I can't believe Boyd is still underrated in Scotland though...completely baffles me. Miller also up for sale, apparently...WTF is Rangers doing? Rangers are busto, even Chris Eagles has decided a move to them is not in his best interests. You've tried to sign one player who knocked you back, you have no money to replace what you have lost and you can't possibly expect Davie Weir to be wheeled out every week! In the last 2 years you didn't bring anyone in but at the same time you didn't really lose anyone either. I'm not saying Celtic will win because they are a good team, they're not, its just that Rangers are going back the way a rate of knots. Seriously you must be concerned about the season ahead? Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Hairydude on July 17, 2010, 12:44:30 PM I'm not any more concerned than I was last year... Barry Ferguson was a far bigger miss in the centre of the field last season than Kevin Thomson will ever be. We also lost Hemdani, then Mendes mid season. Edu didnt play much last year due to injury then because we were winning couldnt change the formula but he is a far better ball player than thomson, Less reckless and less injury prone! Edu will almost be like a new signing next year when he becomes a starter
We also have Andy Webster Back who we loaned out to Dundee Utd last year...As I said my confidence is in Walter Smith and what he can achieve with a threadbare squad! I still think we will win the league. For the past 2 seasons your lot have laughed, joked and absolutely slaughtered us about HBOS select, we're run by the bank, cant afford our own bus fare etc etc yet we have won the league 2 seasons in a row...with Nae dough! You would actually think you would learn your lesson about spouting off things like "5/6 is absolutely buying money" as we have all heard this before. We are still woefully short at CB and need a goalscorer but I would think that will be addreseed before the end of the window. Still need a keeper too. Not actually sure how much we have spent. Lots of players off the wage bill - Boruc and McManus sold for maybe £3m between them. Few Bosmans in plus Juarez and Murphy. Net spend maybe £2m or so? Likely outs over the rest of the summer - McGeady, Samaras Likely ins - central defender, proper goalscorer, keeper, ideally a left-back, and maybe another creative-midfielder/winger type? Rangers squad: (http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7791/huns2011.jpg) All in all, Celtic should be definite hot favourites for the league, but I'd have said the same last season and we were abysmal. The encouraging thing I take from the signings so far is that Lennon seems to have focused on rectifying the lack of physical presence and pace in the team. In the Martin O'Neill era, I reckon Moravcik and Bobby Petta were the only players I'd have fancied my chances against in a fight (and neither was a regular). Last season we played Rangers with a centre-half who I could probably batter!! Add in the probability there can't be anywhere near as many 'honest mistakes' as last season, and there's only one winner. We will still get humped in Europe though. Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Boba Fett on July 18, 2010, 04:27:38 PM Celtic fans not worried about Lennons total lack of experience in management? I know he got some games last season but he only had to manage glorified friendlies (except for the Ross County game). A few of the Celtic signings seem decent from the outset but I think for Celtic this season the manager will be more of a problem than the players. If Celtic arent top of the league by xmas the Celtic fans will be calling for his head bemoaning his lack of experience so the pressure really is on Lennon to get off to a fast start, or at least a faster start than Rangers

would stick money on him being liverpools regular centre half by 20-21....really just wish he stayed with us a bit more to develop- he woulda been playing for us just now rather than 3 years time Gutted at this one more than our other departures!!! Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Maxriddles on July 20, 2010, 10:36:40 PM Any opinions on Danny wilson and his transfer to Liverpool This is a an absolute steal for Liverpool. This lad is an excellent prospect and the level of composure he has for his age and relative inexperience is quite something. He has been thrown in to big games in the Champions League and Old Firm games and handled it better than a lot of experienced pros. My one worry about the move is that I fear that it may have come a bit too soon for him. I am sure if he'd stayed at Rangers another couple of years he would have got a lot of games under his belt and broke into the Scottish national side. If he doesn't get many games at Liverpool it could hurt his development, that said I would have him in before Kyrgiakos any day of the week and I think Roy Hodgson is a good enough coach to bring the lad on properly. A little aside now, I'm not a Liverpool fan but I think there are a lot of doom and gloom merchants that could be proved very wrong by Liverpool this season. Very real top 4 contenders IMO. The Championship side's manager Darren Ferguson values the 26-year-old at £20m and is determined to hold on to him. Who said our transfer market is over inflated! ;whistle; Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Scottish Dave on July 21, 2010, 02:13:37 PM Danny Wilson is a good wee player, but I think he is going the way of Liam Millar!
Leaves Celtic for Man Utd without fully developing, then goes to Sunderland, then on loan to Ipswich. Now plays is football for Hibs in the SPL lol idiot!! I think wilson will do better than Hibs in the end tho, but won't survive in EPL Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Teacake on July 21, 2010, 07:55:08 PM Is Gary Hooper of Scunthorpe any good? Agree. Very good player now considering his age and inexperience but nowhere near ready to be playing in the EPL right now. Def wouldve been better playing for Rangers for another couple of years instead of the Liverpool youth team. Also itll be interesting to see how he fares without Davie Weir walking him through games.Leaves Celtic for Man Utd without fully developing, then goes to Sunderland, then on loan to Ipswich. One year left on the contract, and next season would likely be 4th choice behind Weir, Bougherra, and Webster. Liverpool have bought potential, but by EPL standards its a pretty low risk bet. On another note - David James possibly to Celtic!? Really not sure about that one. You have to be shitting me! Love Carlos Salcido especially now he's lost his gay barman hair do. I thought initially this story about Wigan was just the old agent's trick of talking up demand for his player so he gets a better deal from his current club, but I think there's more to it than that now. Salcido and Barrera were Mexico's best players in the World Cup and I think he feels like he can earn a few more quid in England before he retires rather than staying in Holland. Great buy if they can get him for £2.5m. The wage is small but the bonuses for appaerances etc were meant to be massive, and he apparently came with a lot of "advisor baggage" Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Murph1984 on August 18, 2010, 03:55:09 PM I was listening to Paul McCarthy this morning and it only dawned on me when he said it..
Real Madrid have paid less for Khedira + Ozil than City are about to pay for Milner. Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Horneris on August 18, 2010, 05:00:12 PM Real Madrid have paid less for Khedira + Ozil than City are about to pay for Milner. Yeah thats totally ridicolous. But they need to do it because they need English players for the English player quota so they are happy to pay about 12m more than he is worth. Five centre halves. So two permanently crocked defenders, two shit defenders and one who's not quite good enough? He's not an injured one and he's not shit. Not quite good enough? Surely proved he was in the tough run in Spurs had last season when they secured 4th.

The Champions League group stage will show what he's made of. Even the Pot 3 sides have some v v good strikers. Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Hairydude on August 20, 2010, 10:10:00 AM I also think Dawson is absolutely shocking; cant believe he's being touted as an england regular!

Soooooooooooo excited at seeing him play ;yippee; you'll see him do FA for the first 80 minutes of a game and the last ten minutes he'll run around like a mad man. Thats why people seem to think that "he never gives up and always keeps going" He's a twat and an incredibly overrated player....for some reason some dutch people actually thought he was better than Seedorf, I mean WTF? Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: TightEnd on September 01, 2010, 04:43:43 PM Finally we got DJ Campbell!!!! Season 1 - his goals saved us from relegation. Season 2 - his goals got us promoted. Season 3 - we WILL NOT be relegated now!!!! you are welcome to him Sullen mardy bugger. Hope he does well for you. For all sorts of reasons he hated us and we hated him lol Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Longy on September 02, 2010, 01:25:03 AM Does anybody know who this David Carney guy is (as in seen him play at Everton/Sheff Utd/Norwich)??? Seems a bit desperate, but in Holloway we trust! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/blackpool/8961847.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/blackpool/8961847.stm) Premiership quality he is not, in fact when he was at Norwich I had my doubts whether he was a Championship player! Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Teacake on September 02, 2010, 06:27:52 PM Longy, meant to ask about Fraser Forster who was on loan at Norwich last season. Looks like he's got the chance of being our starter, played on Sunday but literally didn't have a save to make.

Looks like he's got the chance of being our starter, played on Sunday but literally didn't have a save to make. Quite simple, absolutely fantastic. I honestly don't think he has a weakness, positioning is good, strong on crosses and a brilliant shot stopper. Towards the end of the season he became vocal and controlled his defence and was loved by the fans, was second in the player of the season vote in a team where 3 strikers scored 20+ goals. I cannot believe Newcastle cannot find a spot for him, cannot believe Arsne didn't take him to Arsenal - he will be missed at Norwich, Celtic have a star IMO. Enrique, the keepers, Carroll, Dan Gosling, Collocini (seriously) Ben Arfa, Barton, good spine to the team. He had hardly anything to do last weekend but he did get a big cheer when he came for a cross and punched his way through Glenn Loovens' head to get to the ball rotflmfao Title: Re: Transfers that catch your eye, and make you go..mmmmmm Post by: Teacake on September 03, 2010, 11:36:55 PM Longy, meant to ask about Fraser Forster who was on loan at Norwich last season. Cheers, certainly sounds promising. Good to hear that he's vocal and can control his defence that to me is one of the most important parts of goalkeeping, being a shot stopper should be a mininum requirement for any half decent keeper. |
