Obviously yesterday, David Villa to Man City, and today, Martin Petrov from Man City To Bolton.

My thoughts, a good winger/forward for an average winger who can score the odd spectacular goal. Not Sure Bolton will get value for money.

He also got Robbie Blake on a free from Burnley.


Also EFC have made youth their priority by the looks of it, Magaye Gueye, French under 21 International and Joa Silva Portugeese Under 21 international, Along with Beckford 26, It should not be long before Yakubu and Saha(depending on fitness) are shown the door.

Neverthe quickest, but a decent finisher. Will always remember him for the goal against Arsenal deep in injury time at 1-1 in the league, and his contribution and goal against Olympiakos in the CL in 2005.

Pleased but slightly underwhelmed by the signing of Benayoun,think he will be a good squad player though and will know that that's what he is.

you just signed Benayoun and lost Joe Cole FFS, if that's not backwards i dont know what is, and you think any of the players mentioned will come to chelsea when they are already at bigger clubs.

Yes i'm serious.Joe Cole was seen as a squad player by the club but he saw himself as a player who should always start,not a good combination.Benayoun will be coming in as a squad player and will know that is what he is.

Of all the players mentioned only Kaka and Higuain are at more competitive clubs than Chelsea(Van de Vaart but he rarely gets a game and is widely expected to leave anyway),even that could be argued based on Champions League perfomances over the last 7 year or so,but of course Real Madrid are Real Madrid.Kaka more so than Higuain might become available depending on how Mourinho wants to shape the squad/side.

Apart from thse two you're really showing yourself and your lack of knowledge up if you think any of them are at clubs in a better position than Chelsea.

It is a new guy - the 2 brothers that were there and got done for fraud are now out of the picture as far as i know.  I dont really follow them to be honest, have more interest in the lower non league teams in the area.

Thomson is a good/decent player. I can't believe Boyd is still underrated in Scotland though...completely baffles me.

He couldn't score against Celtic or in Europe that is all-big deal(he also rarely started in these games)...the rest of the teams are your bread and butter so he was obviously a valuable player

Boldie rangers offered him a contract more than any current player is on and he said no...Thomson & macgregor are highest paid on about 22k p/w, quite simply we can't pay much more than that

Nah, I think the Championship is stronger overall than the SPL by a distance, Boyd may get 12 goals in a team of SPL rejects if he is lucky.

Norwich have signed Simeon Jackson from Gillingham for 600k, which brings our summer spending to around 1.5mill. We have signed Surman from Wolves, Crofts from Brighton, Ward from Coventry and Fox from Colchester. Not sure where the money is coming from given we are pretty much broke, but at least we are signing young players on a permanent basis rather than washed Premiership stars on loan on big wages.

I agree with this. The guy is a goalscorer and thats about it. He struggles against decent oppo because there are no surprises with Boyd, they know exactly the positions he will take up, he has no pace and very little game intelligence and isn't the best at holding the ball up and bringing others into the play. Kenny Miller is a bigger danger because of pace and movement. Anyone who thinks he's incred simply hasn't seen him play very often.

Will still score 20 odd in the Championship, as Hairy says, thats more his level, ffs Charlie Adam was a superstar in that league!

Rangers are busto, even Chris Eagles has decided a move to them is not in his best interests.

We might've lost Boyd, Beasley, Steve Smith & Novo...and maybe even Wilson soon but the key guy at the club remains...theres not a lot of times Celtic have got the better of Walter Smith over the 10 years he has managed the club

You've also lost Thomson and will more than likely lose more, possibly Miller. You've tried to sign one player who knocked you back, you have no money to replace what you have lost and you can't possibly expect Davie Weir to be wheeled out every week!

I'm not any more concerned than I was last year... Barry Ferguson was a far bigger miss in the centre of the field last season than Kevin Thomson will ever be. We also lost Hemdani, then Mendes mid season. Edu didnt play much last year due to injury then because we were winning couldnt change the formula but he is a far better ball player than thomson, Less reckless and less injury prone! Edu will almost be like a new signing next year when he becomes a starter

We also have Andy Webster Back who we loaned out to Dundee Utd last year...As I said my confidence is in Walter Smith and what he can achieve with a threadbare squad! I still think we will win the league.

For the past 2 seasons your lot have laughed, joked and absolutely slaughtered us about HBOS select, we're run by the bank, cant afford our own bus fare etc etc yet we have won the league 2 seasons in a row...with Nae dough! Fair enough, still think you're wrong though as I think the 3 years of downsizing will catch up with you this season, you're an absolute shambles off the park and deserve all the stick you get. At the same time we were a total shambles for much of last season and deserved all the stick that we got, I just can't see us being that bad again this season.

I don't make rash predictions on here as you end up looking daft but I would price it up 4/7 Celtic 11/8 Rangers. I just think Rangers will find it difficult to sustain a challenge with their current squad and ever worsening financial position, God knows your chairman, manager and players have referenced it often enough but its your team and your quite right to back them.

To be honest you've made some really good points on the state of Rangers as a club.....yous guys have spent a fair bit of dosh on players and that looks to continue...whereas we probably wont make many signings...certainly nothing marquee and probably nothing to get too much excited about.....so you would have to agree that with the total state that Rangers are in; and the fact you guys are spending quite a bit of dosh on players that it would be an absolute embarrassment to Celtic if we were to win the title this year? Yes I would agree with that without a doubt even with a rookie manager and the risks attached to that. We are still woefully short at CB and need a goalscorer but I would think that will be addreseed before the end of the window.

Still need a keeper too. Not actually sure how much we have spent. Lots of players off the wage bill - Boruc and McManus sold for maybe £3m between them. Few Bosmans in plus Juarez and Murphy. Net spend maybe £2m or so?

All in all, Celtic should be definite hot favourites for the league, but I'd have said the same last season and we were abysmal.

The encouraging thing I take from the signings so far is that Lennon seems to have focused on rectifying the lack of physical presence and pace in the team. In the Martin O'Neill era, I reckon Moravcik and Bobby Petta were the only players I'd have fancied my chances against in a fight (and neither was a regular). Last season we played Rangers with a centre-half who I could probably batter!!

Add in the probability there can't be anywhere near as many 'honest mistakes' as last season, and there's only one winner. We will still get humped in Europe though.

Celtic fans not worried about Lennons total lack of experience in management?  I know he got some games last season but he only had to manage glorified friendlies (except for the Ross County game).  A few of the Celtic signings seem decent from the outset but I think for Celtic this season the manager will be more of a problem than the players.  If Celtic arent top of the league by xmas the Celtic fans will be calling for his head bemoaning his lack of experience so the pressure really is on Lennon to get off to a fast start, or at least a faster start than Rangers

Any opinions on Danny wilson and his transfer to Liverpool

hes a wonderkid on FM, so signs are good.

Decent signing though, not seen him play but from what iv heard hes v good and still only 18.

I know Dave asked above about Danny Wilson - but is he a player for now or a very good talent for the future?  The next Alan Hansen?  What do the Rangers and Celtic fans think?

I'm absolutely gutted on him leaving to be honest...think he's a great young player and not even just in the smaller games in the SPL...was also excellent in the champions league games he played & against Celtic;

would stick money on him being liverpools regular centre half by 20-21....really just wish he stayed with us a bit more to develop- he woulda been playing for us just now rather than 3 years time

This is a an absolute steal for Liverpool. This lad is an excellent prospect and the level of composure he has for his age and relative inexperience is quite something. He has been thrown in to big games in the Champions League and Old Firm games and handled it better than a lot of experienced pros.

My one worry about the move is that I fear that it may have come a bit too soon for him. I am sure if he'd stayed at Rangers another couple of years he would have got a lot of games under his belt and broke into the Scottish national side. If he doesn't get many games at Liverpool it could hurt his development, that said I would have him in before Kyrgiakos any day of the week and I think Roy Hodgson is a good enough coach to bring the lad on properly.

A little aside now, I'm not a Liverpool fan but I think there are a lot of doom and gloom merchants that could be proved very wrong by Liverpool this season. Very real top 4 contenders IMO.

Looks like James McArthur is going to join his pal at Wigan. Really thought he would have ended up at Rangers, I think the fee is only around half a mill and the wages can't even be in 5 figures a week.

Agree.  Very good player now considering his age and inexperience but nowhere near ready to be playing in the EPL right now.  Def wouldve been better playing for Rangers for another couple of years instead of the Liverpool youth team.  Also itll be interesting to see how he fares without Davie Weir walking him through games.

Definitely good business for Rangers though. One year left on the contract, and next season would likely be 4th choice behind Weir, Bougherra, and Webster.

Liverpool have bought potential, but by EPL standards its a pretty low risk bet.

Love Carlos Salcido especially now he's lost his gay barman hair do.  I thought initially this story about Wigan was just the old agent's trick of talking up demand for his player so he gets a better deal from his current club, but I think there's more to it than that now.  Salcido and Barrera were Mexico's best players in the World Cup and I think he feels like he can earn a few more quid in England before he retires rather than staying in Holland.  Great buy if they can get him for £2.5m.

It's not the fact they are English. It's the fact that they are proven Premiership players. Pay 30mil for Robinho and he doesn't settle in the league despite obviously being quality or pay 25mil for a player that you know can do it in this league (top assits in the prem last year)?

I believe Mills was the last one off the books to be paid partially by Leeds while at another club. Some of those partially paid high earners took wage cuts to help Leeds out (to avoid admin) a few took the very last penny owed to them a good 1-2 years after leaving and really did us in.

The guy has been training with top clubs abroad and also playing quite a bit of football, just not at the top level - if he is 75% the player he was 10 years ago this would be awesome.

The new owners have a strict policy regarding wages which is one of the reasons that Speroni has not signed a new contract yet.

Apparantly Davids would be happy on a very small wage - can only assume that he doesnt need the money and just wants to play football.

If it was his 3rd or 4th season at that level then yes. The Champions League group stage will show what he's made of. Even the Pot 3 sides have some v v good strikers.

I also think Dawson is absolutely shocking; cant believe he's being touted as an england regular!

Longy, meant to ask about Fraser Forster who was on loan at Norwich last season. Looks like he's got the chance of being our starter, played on Sunday but literally didn't have a save to make.

Quite simple, absolutely fantastic.

I honestly don't think he has a weakness, positioning is good, strong on crosses and a brilliant shot stopper.  Towards the end of the season he became vocal and controlled his defence and was loved by the fans, was second in the player of the season vote in a team where 3 strikers scored 20+ goals.

I cannot believe Newcastle cannot find a spot for him, cannot believe Arsne didn't take him to Arsenal - he will be missed at Norwich, Celtic have a star IMO.

Basically this, was brilliant for us last year.

We tried everything to get him on loan again this season in the summer, but Newcastle delayed and we had to find someone before the season started.

Tim Krul is also very good so better to have him getting experience.Both are going to be top keepers

Cheers, certainly sounds promising. Good to hear that he's vocal and can control his defence that to me is one of the most important parts of goalkeeping, being a shot stopper should be a mininum requirement for any half decent keeper.
