Title: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: chrisbruce on April 23, 2011, 07:19:27 PM I have been looking at getting some tickets for the Olympics and take my Family to a once in a lifetime event etc etc.
Applications need to be in by 26th April so its decision time. I would like to go to the Opening ceremony and see some Athletics but I am just WOW at the prices??? I expect to pay top dollar for my seat but I don't expect to pay the same for my kids who will be 8 and 10. Opening ceremony - seat category one up from the cheapest £125 each X family 4 £500 100 Metre final - seat category one up from the cheapest £150 each X family 4 £600 £1100 I have to pay now Not to mention transport accommodation food drink etc on the day OK I know I am going for 2 prime events but will people pay this much cash in the current climate !!! have any blondes actually applied yet? Is there a better way ? Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: Simon Galloway on April 27, 2011, 10:55:26 AM My daughter got first pick. That means I am taking her to see the diving, trampolining and gymnastics. I have also added the volleyball for me (I used to play competitively believe it or not..) and also figure that for the athletics, I can wander down there for a qualifier (or some of the other less-popular sports that are watchable) and not have a problem getting in on the day.
So far, £350. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: kinboshi on April 27, 2011, 10:57:06 AM My daughter got first pick. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: AndrewT on April 27, 2011, 03:13:07 PM Can't remember if I read this somewhere or whether it fell out of my brain by itself, but why didn't they do a preference system for the tickets, along with a maximum number you want to pay for.
So you'd place your request for tickets, in order of preference. 1 - 100m final 2 - Opening ceremony 3 - Closing ceremony 4 - Vicky Pendleton 5 - Swimming final 6 - Badminton 1st round 7 - Judo or somesuch You'd then say you want a max of 3 of these. So if you get your first three, all well and good, but if you don't then you might get ones further down your list. What doesn't happen is you get stung for 7 lots of tickets one day and so don't have to keep all that money free on your card. BTW, nearly everyone I know who has tried for tickets has gone for the opening and closing ceremonies. Odds of getting one of those are very very slim. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: kinboshi on April 27, 2011, 04:32:35 PM I guess they have to have make people commit to a certain amount so that they don't end up with loads of tickets that people said they wanted, but then change their mind. The people who decide that they can no longer be arsed to go to the Judo preliminaries when they have just binked a 100m or Vicky Pendleton ticket.

Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: kinboshi on April 27, 2011, 06:11:56 PM I'm with you now, you're saying that they can only get 3 out of the 7 tickets. I'm not sure this AV system would suit the way they're going to allocate tickets. I'm sure if there are enough people going for full-price 100m final tickets, the allocation of these will be increased and the cheaper seats will be allocated to fewer - hence why they haven't shown the breakdown of tickets bands on a stadium plan of the seating.
Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: kinboshi on May 24, 2011, 07:44:13 PM I guess we all got the email just now about the ticketing:
"Thank you for applying for London 2012 Olympic tickets. As you will be aware, we have started to allocate tickets and are now taking payment from Visa credit and debit cards, as well as banking cheques and postal orders. The vast majority of payments will be taken by next week (31 May), with the entire process completed by 10 June. We will contact you before 24 June to let you know if you have been successful and, if so, which tickets you have been allocated. Second chance sales There will be another chance to apply for tickets – we are calling this ‘second chance sales’. If you have not been allocated any tickets in the initial process, you will have the first chance to apply for tickets. This will be followed by a further chance for those who were allocated some or all of their ticket requests. Second chance sales will include tickets for lots of great sport including Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoe Sprint, Cycling (Women’s Mountain Bike), Football, Handball, Hockey, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling. So there are plenty of other chances to be part of the greatest show on earth. Card payments Visa payments will only be taken for successful applications. If your card has been lost or stolen or there are any issues with collection of payment, we will contact you by 10 June 2011 to arrange an alternative Visa payment. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: Doobs on May 24, 2011, 09:10:33 PM For those that have ordered tickets to more obscure events, you can make a good guess if you have got tickets by looking at the website of the German ticket resellers.
http://www.dertour.de/olympia-2012/tickets-buchen.html You can switch to the english version and it lists all the events you can still get guaranteed tickets for. This morning there was still some category AAs for the Men's boxing finals. I don't know if Tom Daley does synchronised diving, but there are still pricey tickets available for that. In a moment of stupidity I decided that there was a good chance I would get tickets for something if I applied for the finals of the canoe slalom, and I thought I would increase my chances if I applied for 2 days...and it would be even better if I put a range of ticket prices. Looking at that website I think there must be a good chance I got both days. Everything else I applied for looks like it has gone to the ballot. Don't suppose anybody needs category A tickets for the canoe slalom either on the 1st or 2nd August 2012? Good GB medal chances! Still I suppose I should be glad I didn't order a bucket full of handball tickets Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: Doobs on May 24, 2011, 09:13:04 PM I should add that anybody in the EU is entitled to buy through that website, though they seem to have some pretty stinking booking fees. The cheapest UK prices were £20, the cheapest on that site is 32 euros, and I think they even mark up canoe slalom tickets by close to 50%.

The cheapest UK prices were £20, the cheapest on that site is 32 euros, and I think they even mark up canoe slalom tickets by close to 50%. I think The Times did a tabloidy crappy article about how other countries are 'clearly' handling things so much better than us because people can just go on their website and order straight away instead of all the faffing about we have over here. Obviously they pretended that it wasn't a mad click-fest for all the premium tickets when it first went live, ignored the fact that the demand over here is many many multiples of what the demand in Germany (et al) is and skirted around the fact that it was a lot more expensive and that all the information about buying from other EU Olympic associations (and them buying from us) is on the Olympics website - so not exactly a difficult piece of detective work to uncover it to start with. The prices were interesting because on the London Olympics website it says that the mark up they can charge is capped - but I think they got around this by being a bit creative about when they picked the exchange rate from. I only applied for what I actually wanted to go to so I don't think I'm likely to be too fussed about the second round of ticket sales - I've pretty much just got to hope for people ending up with more tickets than they wanted and selling them on next year. I wanted to spend a day at the Aquatics centre and so applied for the 2 sessions on one day - in hindsight I should have applied for 20 sessions to try and get 2 of them and not bothered about exactly which ones. But that still might not have worked, I read this morning that in one of the diving finals in Sydney there were 14 tickets available at the cheapest price point, so it might only have been possible to get what I wanted by just being richer. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: kinboshi on June 02, 2011, 09:50:15 AM I'd love to see the spread of tickets for the athletics sessions I applied for. For one of the sessions, I went for the 2nd most expensive seats - and was wiling to go down to the cheapest. I guess lots of others applied for the same.
It will also be interesting to see what the corporate allocation is for these events. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: Ironside on June 02, 2011, 10:31:15 AM you do know you get a better view on the bbc and if you get bored you can use the red button

Looking at that website I think there must be a good chance I got both days. Everything else I applied for looks like it has gone to the ballot. Don't suppose anybody needs category A tickets for the canoe slalom either on the 1st or 2nd August 2012? Good GB medal chances! Looking at how much I was charged (£940 or so from £7800 FWIW), I think there is a good chance I have got 2 lots of 3 tickets for the canoe slalom finals (1 lot of 3 going spare! I think I am definitely going to at least one) and I am hoping the rest is 3 for the mens 100m or the relays day at the end of the athletics. I know the mens 100m is more prestigous, but you get far more gold medals for you money with the relays day + an outside chance of a big GB medal. Spotted a 'ticket-sized' amount on my statement. If they don't hear back the tickets go back in to the pot (which pot who knows).
I also looked at http://www.dertour.de/olympia-2012/tickets-buchen.html Lots of tickets but no premium ones. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: Doobs on June 04, 2011, 06:49:07 AM I haven't heard anything from london 2012. I know I have got some events, as cash has been deducted. It would be nice f they could just let us know how much each event is oversubscribed, if their computer can't work out which events we have got individually. How hard can it be to write a bit of code that sends out an email letting us know which tickets we have straight after deducting the money?

This was a deliberate decision from 2012 rather than a can't do. They are still processing payments at the moment and they took the view if they send any emails they will be bombarded with enquiries (particularly those that hadn't received an email yet) asking about their application. Congratulations! We are delighted to confirm that you have been allocated some or all of the London 2012 Olympic Games tickets you applied for. You have been charged only for the tickets you have been allocated. We are currently updating your account. We will be in touch prior to 24 June 2011 to confirm the details of which tickets you have been allocated. We had an overwhelming response for Olympic Games tickets, with 1.9 million people applying for more than 20 million tickets. We are sorry if you did not receive all of the tickets you applied for - across all sports, two-thirds of price categories were oversubscribed and went to ballot. However, there will be further opportunities to purchase tickets between now and the Games. This starts with an opportunity for you to request some of the remaining tickets from 6am on 8 July to 6pm on 17 July 2011. These tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and cover a great range of Olympic sports http://media.ticketmaster.com/en-gb/img/sys/tournament/london2012/oly-complete-a.pdf During this second chance sales window you will only be able to submit one application, and you will be able to apply for a maximum of three sessions. "Your Olympic Games ticket application. We would like to thank you for applying for London 2012 Olympic Games tickets. Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets, we are sorry that you have not been allocated the tickets you requested. We can confirm that we have not taken any payment from you. Demand for tickets greatly exceeded supply in the sessions and price categories you applied for. Where sessions were oversubscribed, we undertook a random ballot to allocate tickets in the fairest possible way. We had applications for more than 20 million tickets, seeing huge demand across many sports. Two-thirds of all price categories were oversubscribed and went to ballot." I've just applied for the opening ceremony and one of the athletics sessions, as I'd quite like to experience the stadium in it's original format before they let West Ham fans trash it. Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: prettygreen on June 23, 2012, 11:47:57 AM Went for a walk around Olympic park yesterday and unfortunately the place is going on lock down shortly for a month or so before the games. The security guy kindly told me though that affordable tickets for every event will be available daily from the ticket office for EVERY event. Apparently the Olympic committee have tried to keep that under the radar. Good news for anyone chancing their arm on the day though.

Worth checking back at periodic intervals as some of the premium sessions keep popping up from time to time. I have been trying for last 5 days, I am sure they have no set routine, however there was a massive release at about 11.30-11.45 last night. I had been searching by "all Olympic Park venues" for past few days, just wanted to get there and expereince it even if handball. Usually, I was getting one page, 5 ish events like Womens Basketball final, and odd thing not there when searched. Suddenly at 11.40pm last night I had 15 pages of events, tbh thought the site was fcked. Quickly changed expectation from Handball to athletics. So if they have a routine (which is unliekly) I'd check 11.30pm tonight Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: redarmi on July 31, 2012, 10:00:36 AM There is a site which tracks inventory when the site changes and sends you an email. Do a google search for olympic ticket tracker. It costs $7.95 but it helped me a bit yesterday as you can get slightly ahead of the pack. If you really want to go it is worth it imo.
Title: Re: Olympics 2012 - Tickets Post by: redarmi on July 31, 2012, 10:04:00 AM http://www.os-site-tracker.com/ is the site. fwiw the last two times tickets have become available have been 11pm last night and 5am this morning so you probably need to be looking outside normal times.
