Title: The "are we nearly there yet?" RSQ - QUESTIONS UP! Post by: outragous76 on March 15, 2012, 02:57:15 PM OK
Back by popular demand I have been coerced into doing an RSQ I have no idea of the rules, so anyone is in with a chance of winning. If you register your interest before Saturday you get a bonus (minus) point There are 12 questions. PM me your answers by Noon on Monday 26th March. The reveal will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 27th march this thread. Your score for each question is the number of people who give the same correct answer. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep, with the corresponding sheep score. If you score the only ACE (an ace being a correct answer which no-one else submits) in any round, you will receive 1 point for that round. You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers, and you are not allowed to ask others for help with your answers. Remember, you are only cheating yourself (and your illustrious peers). If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive the sheep score + 5 points You MUST pass on one, and only one, question and you will receive a score of 0 for that question. Objections will be considered during the reveal but I will try to keep the process short and as painless as possible. The lowest aggregate score after the 12 rounds will win. In the event of a tie a quick fire tie breaker will be ultised 1. Name a material used in commercial construction (this must be a complete/finished material, so for example sand would not be accepted as it is a component of something else) 2. Name a newspaper printed at least 5x per week 3. Name a formula 1 team in the 2012 Championship (sponsor name not required). 4. Name one of the girls mentioned in the song "Mambo No. 5" 5. Name a music act to have a number 1 in 1996 6. Name a poker player with a HMDB entry who lives in Leeds and has a blonde account 7. Name a property in Monopoly to which you can add a house or hotel 8. Name a Grand National winner since 1992 (incl) 9. Name a premiership football ground 10. Name a vodka 11. Name a French fashion, perfume or makeup house 12. Name a letter of the alphabet not utilized in this question? (your score will be added to its scrabble value) This is one of the rules and will be rigourously enforced! You are not allowed to do research such as Google searches to come up with answers, and you are not allowed to ask others for help with your answers. Remember, you are only cheating yourself (and your illustrious peers). ENTRANTS 1. Girgy 2. Geo the sarge 3. DMorgan 4. Supernova 5. Mint trev 6. Mahogany Vic 7. Adam M 8. Tightend 9. If I say "S" for the sake or argument (I wouldn't its in the text), that might get 5 people + a scrabble score of 1 so scores 6 Why is anyone going to choose a letter with a scrabble score above 1? Title: Re: The "are we nearly there yet?" RSQ - QUESTIONS UP! Listen to radio 2 for the next week and hope they say something like "who would have thought that was 16 years ago today!" 1996 was purposefully chosen as a year people could take meaningful guesses at, whilst giving those with a musical advantge chance to shine. Finally, an incorrect answer scores you sheep +5 - so if you really dont know, then tactically you should go for the one which you believe will provide the widest spread of answers and therefore a lower sheep score Title: Re: The "are we nearly there yet?" So good, I almost had to pass but ended up with a half guess rather than get embroiled in man made material shenanigans with an expert in the field (and Guy) on quiz night, so I passed that top marks, Guy. There is good reason why it was going to be a -5 answer! I am happy to defend my position in the reveal tomorrow! It was very difficult and no one got it! Thats why it was worth -5 pts. Question does not state a brand of vodka, so a type of vodka is fine. Ask anyone here what skittles vodka is and they'll know. Type it into google etc. If I offer you the choice between "vodka" and "skittles vodka" everyone knows the difference. And it's not the same as a mixer either. There is a clear process here to make the drink and it's quite long winded. I've done it before. Very nice. If the question said "name a beer" would you have disallowed "stout" for example when everyone else was giving brands? No. Title: Re: The "are we nearly there yet?" RSQ - QUESTIONS UP! The point being your must be able to buy it - otherwise you could have dog poo vodka - or any other made up drink - the pointis the brand of vodka would still need to be utilised Happy with my stance unless someone os prepared to defend you???????????????? If I had said "Girders" (Vodka & Irn Bru) would you expect that to be correct? Geo It's not a mixer though, at least not in the sense of something such as say a vodka and coke. You can't just put some skittles in a glass, pour in vodka, and serve. You have to give it time to let it infuse. The end result is a different drink. Mixers also generally means to add another liquid? Title: Re: The "are we nearly there yet?" RSQ - QUESTIONS UP! Post by: leethefish on March 27, 2012, 09:31:59 PM "are we nearly there yet?" Post by: tikay on March 28, 2012, 09:03:52 AM As with all good quizzes we start with the easy one that everyone can get! Question 1 1. Name a material used in commercial construction (this must be a complete/finished material, so for example sand would not be accepted as it is a component of something else) Correct answers include Wood PVC Cement Paint Plasterboard Copper Granite Suspended Floor Tiles Aluminium Perspex Brick Concrete Zinc Terracotta Any objections? OBJECTION How is "cement" a complete/finished material? You guote sand as a "component" (correctly), cement is also a component! (In both cases, components of concrete). Result null & void, imo. Don't know how I've won this with a wrong answer and so many sheep scores.
Looks like I am doing an RSQ and will get the questions up in the next 24 hours and open to suggestions/ requests for 12 hours. I hope that there are not too many farces leading upto the reveal but may have a cunning plan. It may deviate from current practise but it's the only way I can see round the situation :) However I also have an idea that will make the quiz worth playing too.
