I am pleased to announce this year's Blonde Royal Ascot Tipster Competition. The rules are as follows: 1. Entry is open to everyone upon payment of a £25 entry fee to me. I will PM my bank details to everyone who has expressed even a remote interest (see post below). Payment must be received by me before 2pm on Tuesday 19th June. If you are interested, please indicate below or PM me. Each person may enter up to a maximum of two times. Each entry costs £25. 2. The competition will be run over the 30 races from Tuesday 19th June to Saturday 23rd June 2012. 3. Each entrant will pick one horse per race. The selection must either be for a £2 win or a £1 each-way bet. Winnings will be settled on the basis of Starting Prices. If you fail to make a selection or select a non-runner it will be counted as a £2 win bet on the SP favourite (lowest racecard number if there are joint/co favourites). I will take instructions for "random" selections (e.g. first horse alphabetically) for each race if you do not have the time/inclination to make your own selections but, in a rather dictatorial manner, I am not going to allow selections such as "pick the SP favourite for every race" or attempts to circumvent this rule. 4. The place component of an each-way bet will be decided using the following criteria: 1/4 the odds for a place for each horse officially returned on the results for each race on www.gg.com 5. I will be using www.gg.com for the purpose of deciding the result of each race. 6. Entries must be sent to me via PM by 2pm on the day of the races. I will then make everyone's selections available via the spreadsheet by 2:30pm that day. 7. The winner will be the person who makes most profit (or least loss) over the course of the festival. 8. My decision is final in all matters (until proven otherwise). The payout structure will be as follows: 1-10 entrants 1st 100% 11-20 entrants 1st 75% 2nd 25% 21-30 entrants 1st 60% 2nd 30% 3rd 10% >30 entrants tba Have fun. I shall begin design & construction of my secret Royal Ascot algorithm. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on June 15, 2012, 09:40:44 PM Don't forget to enter this competition if you think you have a better "algorithm" than tikay.
I'd venture that this is a definite +Ev spot. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: tikay on June 16, 2012, 11:12:31 AM TWO entries please. Have shipped £50 by Bank TX. Twice if Cilic wins Queens tomorrow, only once if Nalbandian wins. Q, there will be large handicaps where some bookies offer 5 places for the place terms, will we be going from a particular bookie for this? Skybet for example? Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Karabiner on June 17, 2012, 10:30:29 AM Would it be permissable to have two 1 point win selections in the same race as a third option?
As opposed to either one 2 point win selection or one 1 point EW. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on June 17, 2012, 10:42:35 AM Would it be permissable to have two 1 point win selections in the same race as a third option? As opposed to either one 2 point win selection or one 1 point EW. It's a possibility for future competitions if you're serious. If there's any support for the idea, I'm happy to implement it. Any suggestions that would "freshen up" these types of competitions are most welcome. Any suggestions that would "freshen up" these types of competitions are most welcome. It is not an uncommon betting strategy in certain types of races. I just thought that as we have two points to wager we might be able to bet them as we see fit without actually dividing whole points up unless it makes things too complicated. Definitely not too complicated. If we do another similar competition I'll be happy to add it to the rules unless people object. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: The Camel on June 17, 2012, 01:42:20 PM Going to be a massively busy week for me.
I'll undoubtedly forget to send my entries in. The amount of money I'm likely to lose on the week, every pony will come in handy come next Sunday. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Biddy 62 on June 17, 2012, 03:20:38 PM Is it same as Cheltenham no selection and your on the favourite?
Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on June 17, 2012, 03:54:09 PM Is it same as Cheltenham no selection and your on the favourite? I'm going to be a hard-ass. If you pick a non-runner, you get the SP favourite. However, if you make no selections at all (or choose non-existent horses), I will randomly pick a horse for you. The reason for this is to stop people saying "I'll have the SP favourite in every race" because I'm sure that would be a winning strategy and it isn't really "tipping" imho. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Biddy 62 on June 17, 2012, 04:45:49 PM Your not serious?
Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on June 17, 2012, 04:51:34 PM Your not serious? I think I am. I'm concerned that multiple people will say "pick the SP favourite in every race for me". That wouldn't make it much of a "tipster" competition imho. I'm happy to take instructions such as pick number 17 in every race or pick the first horse alphabetically. I can tell from your response that you disapprove of my approach. I'm happy to discuss it. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Biddy 62 on June 17, 2012, 05:01:43 PM Say i forgot or didnt have time to study my selections, how would i know what you have picked? I agree its lame to just put sp favourite for every race. Sometimes i put SP fav when i fancy whichever one gets gambled on. I've no probs whatever you decide.
Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on June 17, 2012, 05:09:27 PM Say i forgot or didnt have time to study my selections, how would i know what you have picked? I agree its lame to just put sp favourite for every race. Sometimes i put SP fav when i fancy whichever one gets gambled on. I've no probs whatever you decide. I publish all selections (including ones that I pick) before the start of the first race each day so that everyone can see each other's selections. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Biddy 62 on June 17, 2012, 05:24:18 PM Is it ok to make the odd sp fav for reasons mentioned above?
Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: MereNovice on June 17, 2012, 05:28:13 PM Is it ok to make the odd sp fav for reasons mentioned above? I'm going to say no for now. If other people also want this option, I'll allow it. However, we would need to agree on the number of times this option can be used. Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Biddy 62 on June 17, 2012, 05:38:39 PM No worries.

Bastard. needs more Latte ( nap) I actually need a latte AND a nap, to be honest..... That is SO spooky. I'm midway through Latte # 2 (07.40am here) & once I get to Latte # 3, I start lose that grumpy & difficult edge that I sometimes have first thing in the morning. However, yesterday, I visited the place below, in Fremont Street, Downtown Vegas, & it took me back 8 years. You, John McGrane, John's missus & 2 kids, & myself, supped coffee & had a sticky bun there, John then went on to finish 18th in the WSOP Main Event for north of $300,000. Happy memories. I'm almost cheerful now. Quote The queen of Australian racing, Black Caviar, has produced yet another dazzling display to win the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. It is the crowning achievement of a record-breaking career that now stands at 22 starts without defeat, for 12 Group Ones and total prize money of $6.3 million. The sell-out Ascot crowd of 80,000 roared as the gates opened, and their cheers reached fever pitch as Australia's champion powered to the line under Luke Nolen. The victory at racing's most glamorous setting was the result of more than a year's meticulous planning by trainer Peter Moody and his staff. It is just rewards for Black Caviar's owners who were determined to see their great mare showcase her unique talent on the world stage. Around 10,000 Australians were at Ascot to witness history, while tens of thousands more bleary-eyed fans back home stayed up beyond midnight to watch on television. Black Caviar's performance capped off a wonderful five days of racing and bookends the royal meeting with the remarkable win of Frankel on the opening day. There has been some talk that Black Caviar could stay in England and contest the July Cup (1,200m) at Newmarket. Moody, however, is more likely to pull the pin and return home and target the Manikato Stakes on Cox Plate eve and a third Patinack Classic in November. Then, there is the chance Black Caviar will be on a plane to Hong Kong to contest December's final leg of the Global Sprint Challenge and the prospect of a $1 million winning bonus. You got a chess board out there? :)up Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: tikay on June 23, 2012, 07:01:45 PM I was rubbish. There. Said it. Well done to the top scorers. Doobsy just popped in, we had a lovely chat. I thought he was an Accountant, but he is actually an actuary. Chess? A Dealer @ Golden Nugget was telling me he is ranked 2,1?? in the American Chess Rankings, which I gather is pretty neat. I'll organise a game with him for you. ;) Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Acidmouse on June 23, 2012, 07:15:20 PM My daughter picked out a horse becuase it sounded like Rastamouse, i should let her do it more often 3rd in the big race for 66/1 :) she earnt her poket money this week.

"I near on shit myself there" Ascot was appalled and excited in equal measures! Title: Re: THE Royal Ascot Tipster Competition Post by: Biddy 62 on June 23, 2012, 07:36:29 PM Plenty of drama but i was a bit dissapointed. 1/6 supposedley world beater should have won by half of track.

The top two levels aren't just rating-dependent. You have to get good tournament performances against masters. I'm a mere 1999. Strong enough to give your dealer friend a good game but he'd beat me more times than I would beat him. Need to better than racing tips, mind! |
