As I said to Rod on PM, if one of you could put a blonde team forward please, and confirm once accepted

If we get more than 8 interested in playing, a selection process can be put in place, perhaps by ballot etc

Cheers

If honest, I post more on APAT and will be applying through that process, but become more active on here as well this year, and would like to apply for this team to if that is OK?  A newbie on the team of wise men & women?!

A few can vouch for me if required on here. Major thing I have done on here, is comply the movie list ratings a while ago - other than that, odds and sods here and there.

Only poker /clubs/forums I am member of, so seems a good idea to put eggs in both baskets -  cheeky yes.

Title: Re: APAT Forum Team Championships

We'll have to do a ballot for the final 8, probably. In previous events we've done an online MTT or league, top finishers qualify

No clique at all in selection Jason, anyone can apply and have an equal chance of getting in but carry on posting before you think :-(

Even though I appear to be unofficially captain, the 8 players will be chosen fairly. Hell, even I might not get in and I'm not booking my train/hotel until I know.

I personally like how APAT appoint a captain who has contributed to the forum/had success he he picks 7 based on applications rather than a few who fancy playing the comp under the blonde banner and never post or contribute at all

Just my 2 cents

Playing Histroy
How they will contribute to team spirit
Shoe size
Fave kebab

Really?

Without too much effort, I can find one that has not been logged on for 5 months, one that has posted about 15 times this year, one that has posted less than that. I could go on, but it's only gonna cause problems.

George seems like a great pick. Would get my vote, if it goes to it.

Obviously not.

What I was trying to say (and I was on my phone when I posted that) was that should the mods choose me, and then Tighty became available at a late date, I would stand aside as my first choice for captain would be him.

What do the mods want for Christmas :)

Title: Re: APAT Forum Team Championships
Post by: KarmaDope on December 17, 2012, 08:08:34 PM
To be fair, I don't get all the aggro that's gone on over the last few hours on this, and I'm confused where it has come from.

APAT chooses its teams the way it has always chosen their teams. They choose a captain, that captain always chooses players based on applications.

Blonde, IIRC, tends to choose their teams for these events based on an online league. The only reason my name was mooted as captain was because I post on both forums and I put in the application for Blonde to have a team on the APAT site.

Don't forget that blonde are not yet guaranteed to actually have a team. Nobody is until next week.

Title: Re: APAT Forum Team Championships
Post by: TightEnd on December 17, 2012, 08:11:40 PM
There shouldn't be any aggro, to be frank

If blonde gets a team accepted, we'll go from there with a captain from those who have indicated an interest by this time tomorrow.

There are no fait-accomplis!

Easy.

Looking at that list, there is only one person I can see who could cause an issue and that is my wife.

Whilst she may not have been logged in - she has been reading the forum (on my lappy, hers is bust and has been for some time) and she contributes in other ways (see: updates).

People can contribute in other ways than posting on the forum.

ETA: Just to be clear about everything, I have represented other forums in the past. Once representing a small forum called Chezger led by The Duke and consisted of a group of my friends who got into the first one. I have also since represented Black Belt Poker, as Jon MW was captain, Joobs was selected, I was travelling with them and they were a player short.

We can do it by vote or appointment - it's all the same to me

They can read the forum, they can click the sponsor links, they can be playing on DTD through the links on the forum to generate rake, they can be helping people under the radar (by PM etc), they could even do updates! Many ways they can contribute to Blonde (not the forum, Blonde as a whole) without posting millions of posts on here.

Good post, I'd like to put my mum forward too

Nirvana for captain. Much better choice. Plus if he wins I will personally return his 24 boxset as a prize.

Also, lets be honest, some on the list want to "represent" blonde because its not an open event and it's there only chance in. They'd probs represent a forum they've never read if they had the chance.

I represented APAT one year and only put myself forward for that forum cos of my activity on there. This time I want to rep blonde.

Plus putting a team together through a series of mtts is not the best way to build any sort of team spirit IMO.

Fwiw I would pick the camel cos I know he loves team poker and poker awards.

I post more on APAT than here, although I've contributed posted more on blonde this year than any other year, I wouldn't consider myself as a regualr blonde against most in here. so I would understand to a degree if I was exempt.

That said, surely getting Newbies / new posters to represent blonde is a method of keeping the forum fresh, live and ensuring a good turnover of new people.

I have represented APAT Team Luton in the previous team event as captain for the record.

Certainly understand you point George, and being totally honest, I do feel more "affliated" with APAT than Blonde - as my original "request" stated that I was being cheeky.  But I'm trying to join in to all things blonde to improve that.

So I'm happy to drop out (not that my name is on the list at present anyway!) that said, how does one earn stripes to become within a chance to rep the forum for the future?

I do get paid to do the updates. I believe everybody does. It's not good money for what it is, after expenses works out at less than minimum wage hourly. When Joobs and I do it together, it is a set amount, so we don't get double money.

I don't do it for the money, that is a bonus. I do it to help Blonde and by extension, Tighty out.

I'd also like to state that I am not applying for any other teams (I am aware that people do this because it is not an open event). I post on Blonde and APAT. I want to play for Blonde. I've never applied in the past because I've never felt I can qualify via the MTT's.

I do want to play in the tournament.  I'd prefer under the badge of APAT, not shying away from that, being totally honest.  So I guess its like, I'm born in one country, but if I can't make that team, then I play the grandad card!   :D :dontask:

Title: Re: APAT Forum Team Championships
Post by: Rod on December 17, 2012, 09:28:57 PM
Blonde will obviously be there.

I just don't agree with non active members wanting to represent blonde when they don't contribute all year long.

TBF George, the team has often contained new and less active members because they are the ones who made themselves available, and entered the qualifying mtts.
I can see both sides of this argument. I was very new to Blonde in 2010 when I entered the qualifier to represent the forum in Manchester and to be honest if I had not gone to that event and met some of Blondes long standing members I doubt I would have bothered posting too much more at all or even played another APAT, for this reason every day two I make I wear the Blonde patch (so that I will have it on at final tables). I know I am not that big of a poster (only about 100 posts this year) but I read the forum and get a lot of the PHA section especially.

On the other hand I do have to agree that last year (and the year before) the team did not seem like a Blonde Poker team fully. The team included people who wanted to play the event more than wanted to play for Blonde (imo), who whilst they are great people and great apaters were not obvious choices for the Blonde team, we had to go with what we had though. Over the last couple of years only a few of the Blonde team have stayed to rail their team mates after they went out. The result of this is that the forum itself is indifferent as well. I honestly think we could have been playing to win it last year at the final table and there would barely have been a post on Blonde Poker about it. If we this year have a team made up of regular posters and well known Blondes I would expect to see the support from the forum become much more vocal and a decent thread to be made out of it.

I like the idea of selecting a captain in the same way APAT do and allowing them to choose the team. Last year the APAT team did have what Blonde Poker did not which was a proper team spirit, their members got behind each other properly and cared how their team did and railed one of their team to second place. I think that going about things in this way will ensure that Blonde gets that right this year. Hope to be playing but if not will be starting a thread on this forum as support for Blonde team.

No disrespect meant to any of the posters in this thread at all but I don't personally think we should be including people for whom Blonde is not their only choice either (not up to me of course but just an opinion). We have a really strong group of players in the OP of this thread and the team should be selected from them by whatever criteria the captain and Tighty deem correct. Just to answer a question above, I have also represented another forum once in this competition (I have represented Blonde twice). This was only due to me being offered the chance to be captain of the APAT forum team back when that was a massive honor and not something you turned down. Blonde though is the only team I have ever applied to play for though.

Oh yeah and Tighty should definitely be playing captain if he is available. Never thought of him tbh, so used to him making sure everything runs right you forget the man can actually play.

ty that's clear

my 2 cents would be happy with any of the 3 suggested captains ( Nirvana don't know if you were serious or not i am assuming not )

do not have an opinion if team selection is by captain or by league

if by captain selection criteria should be decided by them

if by league would want buy in higher than that suggested

FWIW I get a strong impression that the teams who have done the best in previous years have been the ones who have had captain's appoint their members rather than teams where players 'earned' their place - another good reason to dispense with an MTT or league qualifier.

Being captain is a massive hassle, in my experience the only benefit you get is the satisfaction of seeing someone you picked win the individual element of the tournament

The player list at the start of the thread suggests Blonde will win imo. We have to not run like death on one of these sooner or later.

When are you announcing the captain? Reckon we would like to get the team sorted asap the Hotels are already filling up and are likely to go up in price, Days has only a limited number of rooms left. I think I am going to go anyway tbh although will not be playing if not selected for Blonde. It will be a good weekend and I can play cash games or some side event whilst the tournament is going on.

Two teams highly unlikely

What about being captain of a winning team at a team event? That is pretty satisfying. The captain will have a tough job on his hand no doubt about it but if Blonde can win the event it will be well worth it.

I haven't been active enough to put my name down for this, but I was really honored & thrilled to play for Blonde in this last year. From playing I became more involved with proper live games I could afford with APAT and from then on to my first trip to Las Vegas and making some remarkable Blonde friends.

I've always considered myself a Blonde more than anything else so I wish the best of luck to those who are chosen to play, I'm sure they will do a great job representing Blonde  :)

there is no need to put your name down now, because the selection will be done by whomever is chosen as captain from applications from willing members. It is the captain's job to decide on the criteria

imo all three (4) possible candidates are worthy captains for different reasons, and I am sure will do blonde proud.

lol. I doubt they would have let my team selection in. And certainly Tikay and Tighty would have died at the thought of us wearing shirts with Blonde written all over them. Actually give me a minute and I will put my team together.

Just want to quickly thank the mods for picking me.

Those on the list will all be considered but I'll put up a brief selection criteria later on a new thread.

Would like lots more interest but will confirm team ASAP so hotels etc can be booked.
only pick from those who expressed an initial interest IMO. Having team eureka and Tom Langley in would not be in the spirit of the thing.

You think Team Eureka can fit in a trip to Luton between Prague and Deauville?

Have just read this whole thread, and am so tempted to blackballl the Blonde team tomorrow for pure comedy value.   ;D

Looking forward to catching up with the Blonde Dream Team in Luton this January.

If its your decision let blonde have two teams,

Does this clash with Deauville?

If its your decision let blonde have two teams,

We're already oversubscribed, with about another ten requests for a 2nd team.

Might have to move it to a bigger venue for next season.

Eh, bigger Venue????

10 x teams of 8 = 80 runners     .....       the Luton card room can seat 200+.

It copes easily with annual Sky, GUKPT and the APAT tours    ....    maybe you should 'know your venues'!

So, how about doubling the entry field to the Team Championship Mr APAT Oranganiser, so those that want to play      .....     can play?

Paul, its oversubscribed at a capacity of 25 x 8 person teams = 200 with requests from 10 of the 25+ for second teams

No need for the antagonism at all

Apologies Rich, got the 'numbers' mixed up      .....      no wonder I never win The Euro-millions (or a goldfish at the fair).

Wow, can you warn me next time so I have a chance to duck  ;)

Think I'll go back to lurking, it's safer.   ;D

Good luck to whoever makes the Blonde team.

Hope you are well bud, & that New APAT is going well.

All going very well thanks Tony.

Hopefully catch up with you at an event in 2013, I'm planning on playing a few events next year.  Not a New Year's resolution, just a promise to myself to get back to enjoying playing a bit of live poker and luckboxing the odd cash here or there.

Good to hear. After being ineligible to play APAT all these years, I hope very much to come along & play some APAT's in 2013.

I really regretted having to resign, but the conflict of interest & commercial clash was not really getroundable, but my heart is still with APAT, I think what it did for the smaller-rolled players was outstanding.

Thanks tikay.  Six years on and I think we can all hold our heads high having worked to deliver something positive for players.  But boy didn't we have some fun along the way!?  A good job we were able to shove Rich out front at the 'appropriate' times.  :)

My family is great and I can't wait for the week ahead.  It's been a very busy year.

It would be fantastic to see you play an APAT or two next year.  Maybe come and play some of the WCOAP events at DTD over Easter.  Stud, PLO, Horse, Heads Up, Six Max, before we even talk about the big one.  Plus we may have another surprise or two to add to the schedule.  ;)  Right up your street I'd say.  Who knows, if the dates align maybe we could even talk Rocky Prew into playing an event or two...
