Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: matt674 on February 17, 2006, 03:01:11 PM I don't think Blonde have organised the whole bloody Leyton Orient bit of it Mr Monkey!!! Blame the Ladies World Poker Open organisers. I know blonde hasnt organised it - i just disagree that in this age there are still tournaments out there that discriminate against groups. I know its a very contentious issue but if someone were to organise a tournament that only male Caucasians could play in there would be uproar - i dont see why this should be treated any differently. No doubt this is someones (probably male) idea of a "new gimmick" to try and cash in on the poker boom and IMHO i think it stinks!! Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: tikay on February 17, 2006, 03:22:56 PM Eeek, we are getting het up here.
Here's the deal. We were contacted by the organisers of the Ladies Event, "would blonde like to participate/get involved/enter someone/run a sat for it?" Why not, we thought? Maybe, we reasoned, some Ladies might like the idea. We never examined it in depth from a PC angle, & do not see a need to. We considered - as it's a televised thing - entering, say, Jen & Rhow. They are both shareholders in blonde, work damn hard for little recompense, and if they made the Final, blonde get huge exposure, worth far more than the cost of the entry. But I felt that was wrong, & the Lady blondes might feel "hey, what about us?". So we reverted to Plan B. Have a satellite, so all the Lady blondes had an equal chance. We knew it would cost us plenty - we have NO chance of sufficient Lady blonde Members signing up to cover the entry fee. But we decided to do it anyway, & if a blonde Lady made the Final, the TV exposure of blonde would more than pay for the shortfall on the entry fee. The PC "Ladies ONLY" thing. Never crossed our minds, &, in all honesty, & I don't think it needed to. In the grand scheme of things, in a world full of some pretty depressing things - drought in Somalia, Police Office being shot, abandoned babies, da de da de da, the issue of whether it's sexist to run a Ladies Comp ranks fairly low. And if someone insists on playing the sexist PC card, well, whenever a pic of a young lady is put up, or a new Lady member joins & we all give it the chat-up bit, or the term "norkage" is Posted & everyone jumps on the "more norkage" bandwagon, do you want us to ban all that stuff, Because THATS sexist, too? Course you don't. It's the same thing, you can't have your cake & eat it. Lets keep a sense of perspective here. It's not that big a deal. Now, come on Ladies, get signed up. Every sign up reduces our exposure to loss, & you have a real chance of making serious money here. Now, how's the weather where you are? Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Trace on February 17, 2006, 03:28:05 PM Bright and sunny and getting better as going home in 35 mins and then off till 27th Feb.
For the record I won't be signing up for this as I can't afford the $33, I would never for one minute expect to win it, and I could not get the time off work if by some miracle I did. Damn good luck to everyone who does partake. Trace xxx Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Ginger on February 17, 2006, 03:30:52 PM Eeek, we are getting het up here. Chances are, we will have to turn away a lot of applicants, so the clash of dates is less relevant. And despite the possible attraction of BB2, the winner of the Ladies Event is gonna pick up some serious money - REAL serious. the winner of the supersat will be expected to wear blonde gear (which will be provided for them) during the main event as for the women only comps i had this debate with a top british female player once in the vic although she doesnt play the women only events she thinks they are a good idea to draw women into poker that normally wouldnt play, when the mix of men/women reaches a more balanced level then there will be no need for this but for a woman to walk into a casino for the first time and have to play in a field of 95% men it can be daunting i say anything that brings ladies into the game is great for me as i would muh rather sit on a table with lovely ladies than a host of tikays and devilfishes. Comparisons are irrelevant, simple, it's ok saying there are worse things in the world and i agree there are, that's not the point though is it? Sexism is sexism is sexism, if this were a male only comp there would be a few extra voices saying it's wrong, if it were asians only a few more, whites only then it would be a world wide story. The point is what is right or wrong not the scale that is applied, do you compare Aberfan with tsunami? no because both were the same in the scale or context that applies to you (or me). The point i was trying to make is that a female only comp is wrong in this day and age, no argument can support it, ever. Being the right thing to do for blonde is a seperate issue and to use it for a publicity purpose is fine but it is no excuse for blatant descrimination. Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Colchester Kev on February 18, 2006, 03:33:18 AM So lets all boycott the WSOP then, they have a women only comp.

Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: The Baron on February 18, 2006, 03:43:17 AM ifm,
As has already mentioned, blondepoker did not set up the World Poker Open. They were asked if they wanted to have someone in it and at great financial loss to the site tikay and El Blondie have said yes in the hope of some coverage. The issue here is supporting the decision of these guys as they are paying for blonde to stay running out of their own pockets by the sound of it. In honesty, no I dont love the idea of a ladies only event, but I do love having blondepoker and our support is the only thing that will help events like this. Perhaps you should write your thoughts to Mr Hearn? Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Colchester Kev on February 18, 2006, 03:46:30 AM yeah like i refused to play the main event on principal ;)
Are you against womens football ? are you jealous that they get their own league ? what about womens golf ? they have their own tour, yet can play on the mens tour if they are good enough. Would you be as unhappy if women set up their own poker tour ? lots of questions, im genuinely interested in why you think this is so wrong ? Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Heid on February 18, 2006, 03:54:14 AM Anything that gives me an edge, I'll do :)

Women can join any tourney they want...they also have a choice as to whether they want to join this one. So we have extra equal rights... Perhaps that's what is eating at you? Perhaps it's the fact that women have more choice than the guys? Like I said...for once I have an advantage ....as long as that isn't REALLY Lucy Rokach who just joined of course... It is discrimination, pure and simple. You either agree with it or not, i don't. All I can say is if your vocal opinion on this matter has stopped ladies signing up then you have done blondepoker a disservice. Just carrying on Emily Pankhursts hard work mate........... Whilst potentially ruining the hard work of the people who run blondepoker, the place where you post no less. To each his own. I see where Matt was going with his point about it being ladies only. However, I disagree. If we followed that reckoning, then we wouldn't have any female sports at all. Females would have to try and get into male footie teams, males tennis tournaments, male rugby matches. There wouldn't be too much going on for women. Also, does this mean that when I was playing for my under 10s local footie team, that there was a touch of ageism going on? Should all ages be forced to play together? Are we discriminating against Wayne Rooney because he can no longer play for the England under 15s? Let's not forget that a women's event is also a way of encouraging females into poker and what is generally considered to be a male dominated recreation. Yes women are better communicators but men are better at reasoning. I still have to laugh at the arguement that this comp will get women into poker! I don't think poker is one though, i dont see how either sex has an edge in the game. Yes women are better communicators but men are better at reasoning. I still have to laugh at the arguement that this comp will get women into poker! I really dont know many people who will stump up 3k to 'give it a go' having only just read this thread - thinking initially it was about a ladbrokes sattelitte......with incorrect spelling on the title of the thread I shall now give my 5p's worth.... I should start that I am all woman so have a female slant on this one.... I agree entirely that womens leagues for football etc are essential as physically there are differences which mean it isn't a level playing field. In poker is there a difference? Yes there is but not something us women can't overcome. There is definitely a difference in aggressive behaviour at the table, men being more aggressive than women most of the time. I know that as a race women poker players have a bad rep as being tight passive, and this does lead to bullying (or tactical play) by some male players. The number of times I have had a man at my table berate me for breathing because he thinks he can.......luckily my skill at cutting put downs is legendary so I can fight my corner...... This unfortunately does discourage some women from playing live and i think this detracts from the game. In a sport where poker players can choose from more and more venues to play every night of the week we need more players in the game. Women will add to the live games and if having womens only tourneys to encourage live play does the trick so be it. I know that a big buy in is not for new players but the coverage will encourage them. There are other leagues which no one moans about - the uni league or the dealers games for example.....I can't play in those but you don't hear me moan about it..... its only because its men vs woman that every one gets on their high horses. I for one will be playing in the game on Monday - if someone wants to put on a tourney I'm in it if I'm eligible. As for equality at the table that's rubbish - how many times have I sat at a table and the men have moaned about not being able to read a woman......you will never understand us and that is one advantage we have at the poker table. ;D Ps - When I was knocked out of the WPT in january I admit I had a tear in my eye. As I left the room I passed a bloke crying. Men and women share a lot of qualities, one is our love for a beautiful game. Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: ifm on February 19, 2006, 01:54:52 PM Lucy Rockach is more aggressive than most men, and terrifies most men at a table!!

Grin It is this simply reason that women should be encouraged to play with the men, women are not testosterone egomaniacs if you give them their own league, tournaments etc you will be taking away the edge they now have. I for one can not imagine how difficult this women’s game is going to be on you girls, no one bullying, no maniacs, where the hell are you going to be picking chips up from? To be honest, I think the newbie’s entering this will find it even harder to play and will do the opposite to its intended purpose Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: bundle on February 19, 2006, 02:40:58 PM Infact, What is it's intended purpose....

Whilst it is easy to agrue against any form of discrimation I think it is important to look at the value of any "pro" discrimation activity which is aimed at addressing an inbalance experienced by certain groups. Is it right that a certain groups recieve special treatment, I say yes, if that same group is normally subjected to prejudices that hold them back from competing on a equal par. You hear of arguements against black scholorships, are these not racist, but when you consider the disproportionate number of WASP's to black people having the ability to go to college on economic grounds is it not of benefit to have some "pro" discrimation activty to address this society's barrier.
As for the male dominated world of poker I am often disgusted at the way some males treat women and I'm not surprised that the game attracts women in such small numbers. If any activity can be done that attracts more women into the game that surely that has to be viewed as a positive. Well at least the personal hygiene levels around the table would certaintly improve ;) As for the merits of this event and the intention of it's organiser I do not really care enough to pass comment. As for blonde seizing this as a marketing opportunity to promote themselves, why not, it's a sound business decision as it will potential attract more people then it will offend. Afterall you can't please all the people all of the time ::) Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Robert HM on February 19, 2006, 05:27:01 PM We will speak later! Title: Re: Ladies World Poker Open Super Sat Post by: Heid on February 19, 2006, 05:29:56 PM Sound and sage words, Sir.
As I have said on this forum before. A male isn't in a position to understand what it is like for a woman to play live poker. I happen to enjoy being "novelty value", and have enough wit and arseyness to deal with comments, but many a time I have been snapped at, at the table in a manner a man would never ever do to another man. Also I generally will only go and play live if I am with a chap. In this country anyway. I'll happily step up to the card room in Vegas alone. Work that one out..I've never been able to <g>.
