In other news, I am delighted to say that I have finally met the "Miss Chufty" of legend and very nice she is too. Very exciting.

Uncanny, that's exactly the scene here at the final table.

Late 90s techno is being played and Mr Raab is announcing the players to the half dozen or so railers who don't work here in some capacity or other and the 20 or 30 who do.

After a few raisey-passey hands, it folds to Paul Foltyn on the small blind.  His only possible opponent is bb Surinder Sunar, and he promptly raises enough to set him all in.  With under 90k behind, Surinder goes into the tank.  He counts down his chips, neatens them up.  Then he does something people only usually do when they're about to push the lot in - put one stack on top of a base of four.  Indeed he goes for it; Pab shrugs - our first all in!

Pab:  Kc 6d

Flop:  7c 9h Qs  Immediate set for the all-in player

Pab raises to 27k from the cutoff and a disbelieving Richard Ashby pushes all in from the big blind. An insta-call later and they're on their backs, Ashby in some trouble.

Surinder, who doesn't have much more than the reraise, dwells up for some time, and at one point looks as though he is about to push all his chips across the line...

Stuart Nash raises pre in early position (26k).  Over to Jeff Duvall, who reraises a further 75k.  This is an all or nothing bet at Nash, and when no one else takes up the hand Stuart does indeed move in, called immediately by Duvall who's basically set him in anyway.

Pab makes it 27k and Stuart calls from the small blind -- a flop was dealt, to the tune of 4d 2h 7h. Stuart checked to Pab -- who promptly made it 35k to go, and Rutter folded.

Incidentally, I overheard Jon Raab interviewing Stu Rutter pre game, and he was lamenting his live record recently, which he says is due at least in part to "always finishing 8th.  If someone goes out, I am just going to leave the table and if they want me out in 8th it's going to take a long time for me to blind out."

That doesn't seem to have happened - although the curse of the early final exit has yet to be broken it's not a bad bet that this will be the time.

Thus Surinder doubles up to around 220k, and we continue eight-handed.

There seems to be way more action between the blinds on this final table than usual.  Just now previous blind-posting combatants Pab (sb) and Surinder got involved - Pab raised to 30k pre when it passed to him.  Surinder called.
Flop: 2h 2s 9h  Pab checked, Surinder checked behind.
Turn: 8s  Now Pab bet 30k, called immediately by Surinder.
River:  2c  70k is the bet announced by Pab.  It's far from immediate, the call from Surinder, but eventually he does call, leaving himself around 90k behind... and he mucks as soon as he sees the Js 9d in Pab's hand.

Stuart Nash in the big blind asks for a count (it's 99k) and dwells up, making "Oooh, I really want to" faces, but passes. Back around to Eirik, and a more sanguine dwelling period from him, but the same result -- he folded, and Surinder took the pot.

They see a 3c Kh 9d flop, and Rutter bets out 30k. Surinder, most uncharacteristically, dwells up. Eventually the clock is called, and he's right down to one second when he folds. I'm beginning to think he just likes everyone staring at him.

Blinds are up to 6k/12k/1k now, btw, meaning that Surinder is woefully, woefully short on less than 6 big blinds.

OK it's been a little quiet for a while in the sense that Eirik seems to have woken up and pulled in a few large blind/ante combos in the last 15 mins, while Surinder enters Condition Critical, but just now we got an all in not involving him, somehow...

Yes. Just this minute Stuart Rutter raised to 34k and Steel made it a very enormous 144k to go. Rutter folded, though, so it's not as interesting a hand as it could be.

Look how happy Pab is!  In the last five hands he raised once pre to 32k, took the blinds, then did it again the very next hand.  This time small blind Guy Steel (who's not been involved overmuch til now, but has taken a couple down pre) reraised to 76k total.  Pab considered this small reraise for a while, before calling it.

Flop:  Ac Th 4d  Now it was like Mr. Steel had clicked both the "Check/fold any," and "Away from table" buttons - he checked fast, Pab bet out 90k and he instapassed leaving Pab to flash a cheeky 6d 7d which greatly amused railers Claimer and Sam Trickett.

3)  He raises again pre to 55k, leaving himself 75k behind on the cutoff.  Button Pab pops the question, as it were, with a reraise to 120k.  But Cascarino folds!

4) Now all in pre for his bowl of rice, two callers, Cascarino ends up heads up with Jeff Duvall on a flop of 6d 7s 3s.  Cascarino shows Ahrt 4s - Duvall Qd Kd.
The turn and river blank off doubling him back up to 140k......

Wow, the final four players aren't hanging around.  We are getting at least three times as many hands per hour as at the start of the day - all four of them are making their decisions with the absolute minimum time spend.  And it's not like the decision is always, "Pass," either - there've been no walks, with Pab and Duvall currently winning the most from preflop raising in the last 10 minutes of the level. 

Just now Pab raised first to act to 42k, only to find Jeff Duvall repopping it a stack of blue 10k chips (200k?) and instantly passed showing Sixes - Jeff reciprocated showing Nines.  This hand took about 35 seconds all told.  Never seen anything like it.

One step forward...two steps back...

Jeff Duvall has been raising and reraising frequently, mainly on the button, which has gained him a few chips.  Just now he did two in a row - the first passed without call, the second picked up Pab in the small blind (80k the bet).
They checked all the way down until the board read 5c Qc 7h 4c 9d and Pab showed some winning Sixes.  Duvall mucked the Ac.

Pab makes it 55k and Guy Steel calls. They see a flop -- Qh 6c 8s -- which they both check. Come the Ad turn, Pab bets out 75k, to which Steel responds by announcing all in, for 278k more. Lots of people crowd around the rail, and there are a few moments of Pab and Steel staring each other down, before Pab folds and all the railers go back to whatever they were doing before.

Steel rakes in the chips -- and shows K-J for an almost total bluff.

Small blind Jeff Duvall raises big blind Eirik Svanes.  Permanent unbeliever Svanes who seems to have had re-raise juice with his dinner goes all-in, Jeff calls!

Advantage: Duvall 

The heads up hasn't slowed in pace AT ALL.  They are raising and reraising each other, with a scattering of flops and further played in a variety of ways, all nice and fast so no one gets bored.  Both players despite the discrepancy in their ages have plenty of experience and they both sort of look like they're enjoying it all.

But just now a couple of hands saw Pab lose a bit of lead to his opponent...

1)  They see a flop of 6c Qc Kd (checked) and a turn of 3h.  Now bb Pab bets out 85k, called by Duvall on the button.
The river brings the 7s and a 140k bet from Pab, which, when Jeff calls it, leads to an instant mucks as the pot is shipped to him showing Kc 9c.

2)  Jeff Duvall raises on the button, Pab repops it (200k), Jeff goes all in.  This is a big bet.  970k.  "It's a little early for this," says Pab, ruefully folding.

Having said that, the last few hands have been sort of damp squibs. Each time the button raises and the big blind calls -- but then they check the hand down, or someone makes a bet on the river, which may or may not be called. Not any massive chip movement. Keenness to play hands is definitely in evidence, though, so watch this space...

After a couple of button raises +45k and Pab re-raises to 210k which added a few to the youngster's stack, THIS happened:

Jeff Duvall raises the same from the button again.  Pab reraises the same again.  But this time Jeff Duvall announces, "All in," and is snap called by Pab!

The first card out is the Kd, reminding us all that ahead vs. 2 live cards can decide any tournament either way when it's on their backs pre for such a monster amount...
It's followed, however by the 4d Td flopping Pab the nut flush.

The turn is the 8s reawakening small hopes of the two pair housing up for victory....

They're still up to the same old tricks... Jeff Duvall makes his auto button raise, Pab reraises to 260k (the blinds at 15k/30k mean there's no messing).  Jeff calls unbelievably quickly ("What's faster than snap call?" asks the laconic James from AWOP).  After this, though it checks all the way down until the board reads Qs 2s Td Qc 8h.  Pab turns his hand, and one gets the impression he thinks it's good - Ad 6s.  Nearly - Jeff has Kd 8d and has made a second pair of Eights to go with the Queens on the river.

I should mention that although all the blondeites are currently in love with the Pabster, all Jeff Duvall's supporters appear to be in this room. When he doubled up twice in a row, the roar in the cardroom was deafening.

Two little pairs for Jeff double him through back to the chip lead while Pab is knocked back down to 900k.  A good number of Vic regulars appeared to be queuing to pat the dealer on the back for the Threes holding.  It's kind of cool that both players are liked and respected, although this veering from lead to behind to lead must be giving the bettors on this minor heart attacks...

I'm a little disappointed to say that in the past few minutes this has degenerated into a fair bit of limp/checky-check-all-the-way-down boringness. One notable hand that did not follow this path, though, took place shortly after Jeff's double up.

Well, it started with a limp/check, but come Pab's check on the 7h Qs 6d flop, Jeff bet 60k -- and Pab raised all in for 800k or so. There was brief dwelling, but Jeff passed, and we are all still here...

I think they should declare Pab the winner by technical knockout.

That might prove an unpopular decision in this room.

zomg.  It may never end.  Usually when I say this it's because it's boring poker, but not today!  This has been one of the most interesting, dramatic reversal-of-fortunetastic heads ups I've seen.
