The Final Post by: iangascoigne on June 05, 2013, 11:10:33 AM Whilst from a fan/ rail perspective everyone pushing the ' No deal ' mantra is understandable, I do hope it doesn't add pressure on Nick and Pete. They must just do what they feel is right for them at the time the discussions are taking place. They are not there to keep the spectators happy, they are there to do what's right for them. Good luck to both on them. They are massive winners in everyway already. Go Go Go.

You and I like Pete, Julian! but let's be honest he aint the most popular chap on the circuit! pretty sure that anyone who has spent any time with pete will know he's a really sweet guy...maybe not up there with nick & myself, but hey, it's a pretty elite club you know... Spoke briefly to Pete before the start yesterday, and it should never be forgotten that he is an APAT WCOAP Bracelet winner and must now take up the mantle for the recreational and amateur poker players. ;D Get it won guys. Just wanted to also say a huge thanks to everyone that has taken time to post up messages in the past few days showing support for me. I've had an absolute blast, loved every minute of it, and although I might have looked miserable in some photos (Thanks Rich), I felt like I had a grin on my face throughout. According to Phil at the cashdesk, I was one of the few smiling after exiting yesterday. Glad everyone has been supporting the updates to such an extent that the servers crashed. Although that up's Tighty's stress levels, it just goes to show where the home of UK poker updates is and always should be. Now, Nick & Pete, onto the business of the day. Good luck guys. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: GlennDuskTillDawn on June 05, 2013, 12:43:18 PM The deal is done:

I think from reading all the support its clear this idea would work if run by DTD and given enough time. I really hope putting in the 600k does not hurt the place massively. Can totally understand why a deal had been done as the money involved is too much to turn down, however it would have been nice to see someone play for the million. Saying that good luck to the final 6 and I will enjoy watching the stream. 5c 7s Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: julian on June 05, 2013, 01:09:12 PM i spoke to pete this morning when two separate deals were on the table,
to say it was wrecking his head would be an understatement. the pressure was immense & imo it's hard to fault him locking up 375k with another 200k for play for...i don't think anyone can say they would have done this or that until you are actually in that position. & of course, great to see nick finally bag a big score! one of them to lift the trophy pls!! If Pete was 2/1 (Alex' odds) then locking up €375k with the chance of a further €200k can't ever be bad. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: StuartHopkin on June 05, 2013, 01:10:28 PM Is this kind of deal standard?
If I was there (lol, need to play a comp to start with) I would want to keep some element of the prizes laddering? Feel like it really takes something away from it when they lock up set amounts, but now there is no difference between busting 6th or 2nd. Just me? Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: smurf on June 05, 2013, 01:12:55 PM If you take the emotion out of it then doing a deal here makes perfect sense.
375k he has bagged a house for a weeks work where most pay a 25 year mortgage. 1st place now can easily be first out with the pots we are going to see. Well done to all of them Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: Pawprint on June 05, 2013, 01:14:38 PM Looks like a good deal to me for everyone.
Too much money in play not to come to some agreement. Pleased for all six of them, but there is €200k, a trophy and a title to play for, right ? go Go Go Nick & Pete Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: kinboshi on June 05, 2013, 01:20:37 PM Is this kind of deal standard? Feel like it really takes something away from it when they lock up set amounts, but now there is no difference between busting 6th or 2nd. Just me? Nah, I thought the same. Why not take some off the top and distribute it to the different finishing positions so that they've still got something to play for (for each position they ladder), rather than just playing for first. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: TopTen on June 05, 2013, 01:21:08 PM Only a fool or a fool with more money than sense wouldn't want to do a deal in this situation.

The Final Post by: theprawnidentity on June 05, 2013, 01:22:54 PM You also have to take into consideration that as the chip leader you have less of an edge after the deal has been done (no ICM / ladder pressure).
If I had 100% of myself in this spot, I probably snap deal cause regardless of anything else, the money would make a big difference to my life. If I had 50% of myself, I might be more inclined to continue OR want to leave less money in the middle for the winner. Either way, congrats to all and GL to the blondes. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: SuuPRlim on June 05, 2013, 01:27:36 PM It's very easy to say "id never deal here" - Pete asked my opinion on the deal this morning and whereas I could offer reasonable advice, i'm not sat there where every pot you play could be a £250,000 pot. Pressure of high stakes gambling is immense - until you gambled for this kind of money it's hard to know what you'd do. I advised Pete NOT to take the deal straight away but feel pretty certain I would have taken the deal in his spot.
I am adament i never run it twice in cash games but wait till there's $50k in the pot and I change my principle very quickly lol. Also @ TopTen - it's not "greed" it's sacrificing profit to remove RISK, or taking on more RISK to maximise profit - it's unlikely the deal for a profitable one for more than 2 of the players, the utility value of the money makes a big impact - if, say 300k makes a huge difference to your finances, increasing your ability to make money and bettering your quality of life then it would be, as you say "foolish" not to sacrifice some profit to lock that up - as the variance of missing out damages your living. Like in deal or no deal, the box clearly worth a decent bit more the £21,000 but the women has £900 in her current account, owes her mum £1500 and has £1800 worth of creedit card debts - there is NO WAY she cannot take that money, even if the box is worth £35,000. If she's got a steady job, no money worries and a few quid in savings then she'd prolly turn £28,000 down and be right to do so. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: CHIPPYMAN on June 05, 2013, 01:31:50 PM deal had to be expected with no one having millions in the bank(one would assume). its alot of money for these players, think Fassy story is fantastic travelling over without a seat by ferry, that shows great spirit and belief in himself. Ross baby (yeahman), i understand why deal was done, but if i had been there only way i would have done a deal was if me & Nick were HU. After all these FT dont come that often & when i get a chance to score big i want to make the most of it ;0)but yes linton or nicks would be great, Gl everyone playing :) BUT U WILL NEVER/NEVER MADD THAT FT .. U R A BIG FISHHHH Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: cambridgealex on June 05, 2013, 01:34:46 PM Is this kind of deal standard? If I was there (lol, need to play a comp to start with) I would want to keep some element of the prizes laddering? Feel like it really takes something away from it when they lock up set amounts, but now there is no difference between busting 6th or 2nd. Just me? Nah, I thought the same. Why not take some off the top and distribute it to the different finishing positions so that they've still got something to play for (for each position they ladder), rather than just playing for first. Agree, why it is always "chop it up and play for x ftw"? Doesn't make sense to me. Deal seems off since Linton wanted 375 when 9handed with 8m, now is getting 375 with 6 left and 11m. Deal doesn't take into account any skill edge either. I would've defo dealt in his shoes fwiw, the money is so ridiculous, very likely never be in this situation ever again. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: Tommy Bingham on June 05, 2013, 01:36:23 PM Great deal for all imo. Huge Overlay, Huge difference between 6th and 1st, and 6 very good players - where as know, everything can change in one hand.
Well done Linton and Nick. Always awesome for DTD regs to do well in any comp and lock up life changing money. I was not fortunate to actually play this event, but the updates, photos, humor and atmosphere of this forum has really made this tournament special. Big tip for Blonde???? Awesome. Unless Pete goes on the mother of all heaters for the next few years, the occasions where he gets in this position again will be very few and very far between. He's weighed up the options, taken advice, done some maths, factored in the emotional/practical stuff, done some more maths and reached the conclusion that shaking hands works for him. I don't think anyone is really criticising the decision - at least, no one should be - as it's his decision, made in a context (as lilD says) few if any truly understand. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. You could flatten the prizes too..... 650k 425k 275k 200k 150k 100k But then if you look at those figures compared to what Pete has locked up, makes me think locking up just under 2nd place with 200k to play for isn't a bad option! (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BMBNMF9CIAEAgZZ.jpg:large) Xavier travelled from Calais to London without a seat and 500 euros to his name on Friday. Won the last chance live sat and turned it into over 200,000 euros. He was a great character too, and a fantastic story for the event. Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: TightEnd on June 06, 2013, 08:53:48 AM Nick Hicks finished 3rd.Nick was self critical of his final table performance but I genuinely felt he was short of cards and a bad seat meant he was short of spots
Great result Nick (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BMBMuUGCYAErsmI.jpg:large) Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: TightEnd on June 06, 2013, 08:54:58 AM Pete Linton finished 4th

After several days of poker at the magnificent Wembley Stadium in London, Jakub Michalak emerged as the winner of the inaugural €3,000 buy-in International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT) Main Event. Michalak is the top-ranked online player in Poland, according to PocketFives.com, and ranks in the top 50 in the world. He would be the first to admit he got lucky in two crucial pots against the aggressive Nottingham-based player Pete Linton, but he backed it up with intelligent and aggressive short-handed play to seal the victory. Of course, with nearly €600,000 in overlay, there had been talk of a deal both Tuesday night and Wednesday morning before the final table began. The players spent the time before the final table hammering out the final details, which were as follows: Player Prize Pete Linton €375,000 Alban Juen €290,000 Nick Hicks €254,000 Gwendoline Janot €243,000 Jakub Michalak €236,000 Xavier El Fassy €204,000 That left €200,000 for first place, making it a winner-take-all proposition and reducing the stress on all involved. Meanwhile, the chip counts and seating plan looked like this: Position Name Chips Seat 1 Pete Linton 11,070,000 Seat 2 Nick Hicks 6,230,000 Seat 3 Jakub Michalak 4,825,000 Seat 4 Alban Juen 7,615,000 Seat 5 Gwendoline Janot 5,880,000 Seat 6 Xavier El Fassy 4,555,000 The tournament final table was moved from the Bobby Moore Suite into a snug Executive Box Suite overlooking the Wembley pitch from a great height. The giant inflatable igloo-like domes that had housed 761 players a few days earlier had been removed, and the field was being worked on for the upcoming Bruce Springsteen concert. Of course, there was no doubt who "The Boss" was going into the final table as Pete Linton was the only player with eight figures in chips, holding just over a quarter of the chips in play. But he suffered a big loss to Michalak early on when they went to war with kings and ace-queen, respectively. Linton remained unperturbed as he and Michalak continued to spar with one another in several pots as they tried to bluff and rebluff each other. Gwendoline Janot was the first player eliminated. She was crippled after losing with pocket sevens to Xavier El Fassy's kings, and was knocked out on the very next hand by Michalak. Frenchman Alban Juen the next out. He'd started the day second in chips but after getting in a raising war against Linton, he was eliminated after losing the flip. The ISPT Main Event final tableThe ISPT Main Event final table After the earlier battles, it was inevitable that Michalak and Linton would get into another big pot, and more than half the chips in play went in the middle as Linton's ace-queen battled Michalak's king-jack. The players took a dinner break, but after only 30 minutes, Nick Hicks, who'd been mostly card dead for the final table and playing snug, was caught when Michalak flopped trips against Hicks' top pair. Michalak went into the heads-up with nearly an 8-to-1 chip lead over recreational player Xavier El Fassy, and it didn't take long for the chips to end up in the middle. El Fassy picked up kings against Michalak's ace-seven but an ace on the flop was followed by another on the river. Echoing the most famous commentary at Wembley Stadium, “They think it's all over, it is now.” Michalak received €236,000 for his historic win at the legendary stadium. There is no doubt that the ISPT has been considered controversial with many observers asking many questions about it. Could such an event ever truly be considered feasible? Why would Dusk Til Dawn, very respected in its own right, would partner up with such a tour? Although the numbers perhaps were not as high as the ISPT and DTD would've hoped, logistically the tournament was a success and there were very few complaints about anything. It will be interesting to see where both parties go after this event and what the future, if any, is for the ISPT Title: Re: ISPT Wembley. The Final Post by: dwayne110 on June 06, 2013, 12:45:20 PM It's clearly been a great marketing success... difficult to quantify the future value of DTD's ISPT work, but the brand has been significantly enhanced in terms of exposure, reputation and ambition. Having run so smoothly at such short notice it has created a fantastic selling point for holding future ISPTs, UKIPTS, etc.
