I couldn't allocate percentages as far as talent, charisma etc is concerned but he's got to where is through talent. Although it's a harder game now than when he first hit the big time he remains up there with the best when many others have fallen away. That's proof that he has the talent to stick at the the top.

He's a thinking player and has over the years verbalised his hand analysis during and after hands at the table. This has helped many to learn the game and inspired many more. The only weakness I can see in his game is that he often works out when he's beat in a hand but then calls anyway.

I suspect he'll be around for many years yet as he's shown that he continues to work on his game and seeks to continually learn from other top players. That shows humility on his part and although he thrives on the limelight he hasn't got an inflated ego about the game.

He also has an excellent temperament, which is no doubt a factor in being able to remain objective when playing.

Is he perfect?

No.

But I have a great deal of respect for him and his ability. Hopefully one day I'll get to sit at the same table in tournament.

Really like the 45 minute clock for the 100 and 300. It will tempt me back up the motorway again to give them a go.
3  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: DTD £15,000 gtd £150 Six Max this week on: December 10, 2015, 03:08:13 AM
I travelled up to play this last Friday not realising that only 8 levels (4 hours) were played on day one. Made day two as did a large % of the field so travelled back on the Staurday still a long way from the money.

It has a great structure so would love to play more of these but probably can't justify a 2 hour drive each way to play just 8 X 30 minute levels on day one. I'm not one for late registering on day two either.

Is there any reason why there is not a day one at 12.00 on Saturday? That would allow players to travel once and still play from the start.
4  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Re-Entry and Late Reg - Your Views please? on: October 01, 2015, 11:04:26 PM
There is no doubt DTD have been innovative over the years always willing to try new ideas. But from replies on here and from my own perspective I believe that the constant changes have cost the club players.

I used to be constantly checking up and coming tournaments at DTD but now find myself checking the site every few weeks or months. Yet I still look to play as many MTT's as possible but play elsewhere most of the time. My reasons are similar to previous entries on here.

I now dislike multiple re entries. They have changed the game and make tournaments more of a gamble then a skill game.
I used to like re entry MTT's and late reg. for the extra value they add to the prize pool but over recent years I have completely changed my opinion.

I dislike the 'added seats' in the prize pool. They detract from payouts and mean that you can go quite deep in a tournament but the payout does not seem to reflect how well a player has done to get that deep (if they don't make the added seats part of the payouts).

I echo many views on here that would prefer to see smaller more realistic guarantees rather than added seats and multiple re entries.

I dislike the 50k starting stack with blinds starting 100/200/25. This structure is not representative of all of the other main tours in the UK.

It's just my opinion for what ever it's worth but I would like to see DTD get back to very limited re entries or freeze outs and drop the 50k starting stack structure. ( this months Deep Stack structure looks great. 30k and most if not all levels back in).

Also a more constant schedule would renew my interest rather than the constant changes of the past few years.

Love the new structure of 30k and every blind level. I was going to get play the UKIPT but not now. I will heading to DTD either Friday or Saturday. I Hope the Deep Stack keeps this structure.

I have been waiting to hear from my insurance company after writing off my Harley Davidson. Got a call from them this morning and they offered me two grand more then I thought I would get. Made me very happy.

How did you write off the Hog?

Not concentrating through London a few weeks ago. ploughed into the back of a car. Car hardly marked, Harley broken forks, damaged fairing, side box, engine guards etc etc.

I'm a scooter boy now. Replaced HD with Burgman 650 scooter. more practical, better fuel economy and better brakes.

Haven't seen you for a while. Are you still playing?

Haven't played live in a coons age. Might break out soon though.

DTD Deepstack next week. A good one to get you back in the saddle,

I was walking down the high street, it was sunny. I was looking at some old chimney pots and wondering how long they had been there.

It was market day. Busy stalls, splodges of bright colour, hustle and bustle, snatches of conversation.

A youth on a bike dismounted and fell into step alongside a girl. "I know I'm late, but I had to swerve around a lot of people."

I was Happy.

Thought I was reading the start of a novel Tom. Good stuff!

ESTA asks for Employment information now.

Any suggestions of the best way to complete this section if main income is poker for ten years? I've been grilled and searched twice before and want to avoid that if possible this time, not sure how to give a satisfactory answer to this section though.

just got my ESTA approved 24 hours after submitting. Answered no to 'previous employer' question.
11  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Multi Entry Tournaments on: May 28, 2015, 03:19:40 AM
Ideally I would prefer all MTT's to be freeze outs. However I think re entry tournaments are necessary for the long term health of live poker.

I agree that it can be frustrating to see a tough opponent re emerge on your table having been knocked out earlier and also that players with bigger bank rolls have an advantage but I believe it is unavoidable if we want the live game to continue to thrive.

The re entry format helps casinos and organisers meet the guarantee. Without them the guarantee would have to be reduced resulting in less entries overall as the guarantee does have an effect on players deciding to travel and play tournaments.

There are often choices to be made when deciding which tournament to play on any particular weekend and I have lost count on how many times I have heard players state that they are going to play the one with the biggest guarantee.

Personally I'd rather play one with a smaller field resulting in a better chance of making the final table etc. but I seem to be in the minority.

I do think a limit on the number of re entries would be a reasonable compromise.
12  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: the partypoker DTD Deepstack 31st May-7th June $500,000 GTD on: May 28, 2015, 01:46:10 AM
Simon says

"$500,000 GTD in June partypoker Monthly $500+$50 Deepstack (1000 entries needed) at Dusk Till Dawn

 Plus $225,000 in side events - High Roller, 2nd Chance & 6-Max.

Our monthly Deepstack was the first event we ever ran at the Club, from June, we are relaunching this in partnership with partypoker on the 1st week of every month. For the first time ever we will be offering players a 45 min clock Day 1 and 60 mins Day 2 and Day 3, basically the same structure as one of our higher buy in festivals.

This schedule will continue for the rest of 2015 - at least these size of guarantees.

Online Satellites are now running on partypoker at 7pm & 10pm to win $550 Tickets. Players can use these for ANY $550 buy-in event at Dusk Till Dawn, e.g. WPT 500, no restrictions, complete flexibility for satellite players. "

Good news to see the monthly deepstack is back and even better to see a 45 minute clock instead of 40 minutes. Also pleased to see we can buy in at DTD cash desk and be paid out there as well.

I can see why Party Poker would like buy ins via their site and have winnings paid into their account as it increases liquidity on their site but from overhearing conversations in casinos during the Grand Prix recently I believe it has a negative effect on numbers for the tournament.

I think about 40 day 1s with a single re-entry for each is about right.

LOL

Ignoring the cost of getting and staying there flight n hotel wise
How do most work a budget out ?
Personally I allow $1 k a day so ten days =$ 10 k spends this has to cover meals taxis and buy ins
In numerous visits since 2004 I've only had one really bad result where I was so keen to play in one day I did 2x$1 k buy ins at 2/5 in the Venetian 1x$1500 @5/10 in the bellagio and a $2.5 k wsop tourney so in less than 24 hrs I was 6/7 k down I ended it going home after 10/12 days 9/10 k $ down
A lot of trips show a small profit or loss I.e last year 12 nights downtown I spent / lost $200 on the whole trip
Best result was 2010 winning $28 k in the first 48 hrs taking $19 k of it home
Now I take it really steady for the first 2 days so on day 3 I have 2.5 k to get going with !!
I also have a bit more for back up just in case
But whatever happens it's always been a great craic

I came home 10k lighter in 2012 over 26 days with a high emphasis on tournaments, Mainly Venetian Deepstacks (which are not deep by today's standards). This year I plan to ballance more with cash games.

Hopefully this year I will run a little better than last time and actually have the problem of looking for the best $ to £ rate on my return.

Only bringing this up as I remember mentioning it to a group of people that had never thought about it, so maybe it wasn't as obvious as I had thought.  But if you are up with unwanted $, the best "rate" you can get is to charge everything to your room during your stay and then pay for the lot with cash at the front desk.  Saves getting a bad credit card rate and still the problem of unwanted $ to unload.  You can make a deposit against your room at any point, so if you had a lucky bink somewhere one night, can always give some of it to the front desk.

Good point
