Who on earth would but the peas in the middle? What kind of a lunatic thinks like that?

I can live with the peas, but it's a basic rule of eating - & life - that peas belong on the side of the plate, never the centre.

Peas were sent by the devil to poison us all

Been ages since I posted in here (I although I do keep a sneaky eye on you pesky kids still...)

Shadow of the Wind

I struggle to put into words how incredible this book is. The idea, the execution and, most importantly, the language. I have a weird relationship with this book though; on one hand I struggle to put it down, but on the other hand it is taking me forever to read. Why? It's too wonderful to rush. Sometimes, a paragraph grabs me so much that I just go back and read it over again.

Mr B is getting impatient with me. I have been banging on about this book for a year now but desperately don't want to get to the end to give it to him to read!

"Gustavo Barcelo was an old colleague of my farther's who now owned a cavernous establishment on Calle Fernando with a commanding position in the city's secondhand-book trade. Perpetually affixed to his mouth was an unlit pipe that impregnated his person with the aroma of a Persian market. He liked to describe himself as the last romantic, and he was not above claiming that a remote line in his ancestry led directly to Lord Byron himself.

Gustavo Barcelo was, technically speaking, loaded and his palatial bookshop was more of a passion than a business. He loved books - if someone stepped into his bookshop and fell in love with a tome he could not afford, Barcelo would lower its price of even give it away if he felt the buyer was a serious reader and not an accidental browser. He boasted an elephantine memory alied to a pedantry that matched his demeanour and the sonority of his voice.

Barcelo and his bibliophile knights of the round table gathered to discuss the finer points of decadent poets, dead languages and neglected, moth-ridden masterpieces"

Love.

Go read it.

Love Nakhi Wells.  Such a good player.  Hope he does really well for you.

Thanks, me too!

A lot of Burnley fans are a little underwhelmed by the signing - I am not sure what they expect these days - but he's going to give us a different option to Vokes and Wood.

I am fairly nervous about the gamble we have taken in not bringing in another Centre Half

Good evening,

Swansea/Cardiff?

Boom.

Well done.

1) Burnley v Blackburn

2) Chester v Wrexham

3) Cardiff v Swansea

It's depressing as hell to be part of that group of fans. But even more depressing is that so many of our fans see it as a badge of honour. Like it is somehow impressing to hate your rivals that much that you have to be separated by armed police in case you cause physical harm.

Sigh.

Blackburn 0 - 2 Burnley

This has been on my mind over the last couple of days. This fixture is still a "bubble" game*, which is a police term for those games where away fans are not allowed to make their own way to the grounds. Instead, they are herded in on official coaches:

This, to me, has always made the situation worse. It plants the seed of hostility and expected trouble in any fan's mind who may be that way inclined to start off with. Lancashire Police just don't trust either set of fans to behave, but they haven't given them a chance. When the fans met for the first time in 17 years back in 2000, football had changed a lot since the troubled times of the 70s - 90s, but it was presumed that a world war would develop between us.

Anyway, this seemed even sillier to me this week. The usual travel restrictions applied and burnley fans were escorted into the ground some 1.5 hours before kick off by armed police. Yet, during the game, flares were set off in both ends and two Blackburn fans were able to saunter onto the pitch and assault our players. No wonder SD was annoyed. What's the point of imposing all those sanctions when the real security concerns were so lax.

(*there are now just three bubble games left in English football. Without cheating, can you name them)?

Chester vs Wrexham surely.

Wonder if Chester vs Tranmere and Wrexham vs Tranmere is as well. Cheshire/North Wales police are nuts for this kinda thing.

Chester v Wrexham is correct. The other aren't.

Portsmouth v Southampton very likely to be one of them.

You'd think so, wouldn't you, but no this isn't one of them.

They're certainly very generous at the shite end of the M65. Rolling over without a fight or even a whimper.

I was annoyed as hell when the draw was made - I HATE the East Lancs Derby - but I needn't have worried. Most comfortable we have ever been in a game against the Chicken Farmers.

What a life.

At least one of you can play...

My my, very well done Adam.

Details please?

And what were you doing playing J-7? Little tip for you - you want cards that match. A jack & another jack, that sort of thing. J-7 is just silly.

Cheers Tony

It was a £150 side event in the MPN Poker Tour held at the G Casino Bury New Road, Manchester.  114 runners one day event.  Actually chopped it evenly 3 ways but I took the trophy as I had biggest stack due to cracking KK to knock out the 4th place finisher.  Watching John Hesp obviously had a positive impact on my game.

Incidentally, this was the same casino where I played my first ever live tournament way back in 2009 and where we met you for the very first time...what was the tournament I hear you ask...well the SPT of course, looking forward to trying to become a double winner next weekend.

Erm, can you get your brag posts off my page please.....

Oh and your view of what is the current first choice clarets side for game one please. .

Oh.

I think I misread this

My starting line up?

Heaton.

Lowton. Tarkowski. Mee. Ward.

Gudmundsson. Hendrick. Cork. Defour. Brady.

Gray.

SD is a bit maverick at times though. We are away at Chelsea so he will absolutely nit it up for the impossible 0-0 dream. He will probably play 4-5-1, but perhaps play Vokes or Walters up top instead of Gray, and is more likely to play Westwood than Defour.

Okay. i guess.

Made some decent, early signings for us. And for once. Happy with midfield and most of defence. Concerned about the loss of Keane and the decision not to replace him and the lack of fire power up front.

May be a long old season for us I am afraid. As it stands, sensible money is on us taking up the third relegation spot.
