I think I would have been happy with the 14000+ in the pot when it reached you. I actually liked your river bet...only problem is anyone with a "big" diamond will call. I was surprised your foe called with 9 of diamonds Angry

not mentioned yet but when you want to check you can just tap the table with you hand. You will see others doing it straight away. Still it's always best to declare verbally as well.

Yeah there is enough in this pot pre flop to put in a raise. If you get 1 caller then you can push on the flop, and if they call, so be it.

Yes, minimum bets don't scare people off I'm afraid, especially in a freeroll. Prolly best betting pot say 14-15k on flop to get the weak hands out.

"what's that skip? Jim's had an accident and is trapped in his car?"

skip, I found I did something when I first went to play live in a casino...I attached a little yellow post it note to my forehead that said "I never slow play aces", that way whenever I had a lot of limpers (people who just call pre flop, not raising) and I picked up a hand in the blinds, I raised the heck out of it and everyone folded. Soon it got to the stage where, by not overdoing the tactic, I could look down at   Two Diamonds in the big blind and really raise it if everyone just limped into the pot. I came to call this a "limpers tax". If they are not prepared to raise pre flop, and then you raise out of the blinds, the chances are most will fold.

Of course, poker being the tricky game it is, if one calls, the rest get priced in and then you are playing   Two Diamonds against six people having represented a big hand, an  ac comes on the flop, you are forced to bet it to represent your big hand and the people witrh the other three  ad ah asp call and suddenly you are in a massive pot with no outs and you have three options

a) fold, after a long delay to make it look like you've got a really tough decsion
b) go all in quickly, with a swagger and a "i don't give a monkey's I've got you beat" look. For me, this has added effect if  I imagine I am playing against my ex-wife's divorce lawyer
c) call, and then lose all your chips, stopping by the roulette/blackjack table on your way out, where you will reallllllly be in the mood to play sensibly

Of course, this is not serious but there is a moral to the story...don't limp with aces in a multi way pot

you are 88% favorite against any other hand with Aces pre flop, but your odds decrease for every extra player you have in the pot

sermon over, welcome to blonde  thumbs up

Interesting point about protecting you cards was underlined today with an incident at Notts in the £30 freezeout today. About 5 hands in a player limps UTG and then is raised to 300 (blinds 25/50) from a mid position player next to the dealer. It is folded back to the under the gun who calls. At this point the dealer accidentally mucks the cards of the raisor, he had them in front of him but no chip or protector on them. The floor is called and the rule in notts is that if the player can recall the cards and SUITS, the floor can retrieve them from the muck and the hand continues. Unfortunately raisor guesses wrong at the suits of the cards which as you may have guessed were aces (two red ones ironically, he said they were black?!). Then the under the gun turns over slowplayed kings. That has got to hurt. Hence the saying always protect your cards.
