On the afternoon of 30th September 2012, having covered 42.2km (26.2 miles in old money) in just under 5 hours, I crossed the finish line of the Berlin Marathon, sparked up a cigarette, gave myself a pat on the back, and said 'never again'.....
....four months from today, on 6th April 2014, I will be ready to embark on my second marathon, in the lovely city of Paris. Along the way I am hoping to raise a few quid for a good cause.
My chosen charity this year is my local branch of the Samaritans, in Hillingdon. I recently attended an information session there, with a view to becoming a listening volunteer. Unfortunately, I'm unable to commit to the next 8 weekend induction training in the spring, but it is definitely something I want to revisit when I have more spare time, hopefully later in the year.
During the information session, one of the volunteers explained that the branch costs £17,000 per annum to run, almost all of which has to be raised via donations. So, whilst I am disappointed not to have enough time to give just now, I wanted to choose them to be the beneficiaries of any money I can raise doing my little race.
Training starts soon (it really needs to, I've not run more than 5k since the last marathon!) - edit - apart from a single 10k in the Summer that i'd forgotten about
