Apple need to sort the battery out asap

The billion dollar challenge.

Some amazing advancement over the last 2 years on experimental battery technology, still far to unstable/dangerous but which ever company gets there first is going to be worth an absolute fortune.

The Nokia 3310 smashed it for battery life. Could leave it on all weekend and still have 64% left

Yeah the Nokia 3310 battery could probably power an iPhone for about an hour

Isn't that the point?

The problem is with the iPhone rather than the battery design?

It's not iPhone specific, there's battery issues with all of todays phones.  My HTC phone battery lasts a lot longer than my old iPhone but if I smash Real Racing for an hour I'm not getting much more use out of the phone for that charge.  Apps and all the other funky features use up a tonne of battery power.

the iPhone uses battery power quickly through general usage - that's the battery problem it has

I get worried when my battery charge goes below 50% because I see it so rarely, people I know with iPhones don't worry until it's below 10% because of how frequently that occurs.

Firstly, Love the phone and the two options, great designs and pleased that Apple have finally come into the phablet market.

On The point about battery life, yes it beats me that we have so many technological advancements over the last 20 years but we still use lithium batteries.  The amount of processing that we do on our smart phones has surely gone up with the introduction of free Wifi everywhere and an app for literally everything to drain our phones of battery power. So it beats me why we use such a dated technology to power our phones.

Maybe with the introduction and popularization of wearables, companies will introduce some sort of solar cell technology that will charge our smart phones in the day, using the Lithium as a back-up, or maybe we will deal with this issue in the form of software advances, so the processing of our phones requires less power (Like the nokia 3310) not sure what will happen but I can bet that Apple will be one of the last to take up move away from Lithium but will be the first to acquire one of these experimental battery companies....

Anyway gonna put my name on the list tomorrow and pick on these bad boys up on the 19th…

No the problem is with battery technology, it has not kept pace with development in other fields.

I am certain that when these breakthroughs become commercial that it will see a complete change in the way we view power. I try to understand the technology but it's all above me the important things are these guys think they can make a battery that is much smaller than the current tech we have and that charge 1000 times faster, ONE THOUSAND.

Now think with this kind of battery tech everything would be battery powered, why would you have a TV with cables when you can just recharge it once every couple of months, laptops and phones that last for weeks on end then just charge in a minute. Nearly every electrical item in the home could go cable free. Of course most exciting of all is it's implication in cars, at this point electric cars will become perfectly practical.

All very exciting stuff, now we just have to invest in the company that is going to get there first.

So, how's the iPhone 6 going ?(those of you that have one)

It's upgrade time for me and I'm thinking of getting one and leaving Android.    I've quite liked Android but I do get apps crashing from time to time which is annoying.  Also some of the apps I use are better on the iPhone and have more functionality and one in particular I'm keen to use which is the main reason for jumping ship.

I expect I'll be pleased with whatever phone I end up getting but as contracts these days are for two years, I was just after a thought or two.  Has anyone gone from back to Apple from Android and not got on with it?

It's really got absurd with how expensive the iphones have become. I bought the first iphone the day it came out and always upgraded until I got to the 4. Not gonna lie, in it's time it was very innovative as well as being easy to use. An easy to use app store that was full of every app imaginable.

Now that phase of the new phone era has come and is more about what you can get for your money. All the top of the range phones from each company can do some pretty cool things but the price tag on the iphone 6 and 6+ is just absolutely absurd. In fact most of the top end phones are a little absurd price wise.

The battery on my 4 is pretty terrible tbh. If I know I'm going to use it a lot in one day I be sure to keep my charger with me or my mobile charging dock thingy. When I do have to upgrade because my phone is unusable I'll be certainly getting a phone that is about 2 years old because you can get some pretty good deals out there.

I just had Nokia 8800s until 2011, when I got the iPhone4, and I've never felt the need to upgrade since.

That said, my old man is due one from his 5, so I might take that upgrade, and throw him some cash.

Shouldn't be too much hassle to port my number to the 6, and he can just keep his 5.

I used to think this and whilst they are expensive but you wouldn't be able to purchase the latest HTC or Samsung for much cheaper, it's new phones that are expensive, not just the latest iPhone.  The HTC M9 is £43 pm (or slightly less with £60 up front), the iPhone cheapest is £38pm (again less if you pay for the phone)  The isn't going to be small change, they're all expensive unless you go with one of the cheaper brands.

I think I've got a really good deal on the iPhone but I'm not sure I'll get it so I won't post it until I do.
