Jus like to congratulate the legend that is Cannavaro on another top award, was awesome at world cup and quality for Juve. Might be a touch bias but i thought he thoroughly deserved it.

Top stuff, fully deserved.

Not often a defender picks it up.

Much deserved. A truly world class centre-half.

Historically - does it usually go to the World Cup's star player?

I remember 4 years ago it went to Ronaldo when he'd only played 9 games for Inter before the World Cup!

I am not sure but i think if you have stood out in the world cup then it would take some beating.

Did Lee Cook or Martin Rowlands get many votes?

Martin Rowlands now theres a championship manager player for the lower leagues!!!

Yeah Baron as far as i can remember every world cup year its the guy whos been the star performer who goes onto win the world player of year.

About time a defender won it, pity Maldini never did. If he won the world cup or euro championships he would of been nailed on to pick up the award. Trust Italy to win the world cup after the legend retires from international footy!!!

All the years building up to this 1 Italy have been up there in terms of chances of winning, the 1 time Italy is in the pack they win the WC, crazy but deffo overdue!

If i am not mistaken the player of the year is decided by each international coach voting, so it is only natural that the star of the competition that they all watch wins the award.

Cannavarro is a class above.
